Now that I've purchased a few gait belts, I'm ready to go. There are some who look like the picture and others who do not. In the case that this belt resembles the one on the photo, I can assist you. It is possible to lift a portion of the plastic buckle. By holding it open and feeding the open part of it through, you can get the belt as tight as you need. Once the plastic flap/lever is closed, you will have to push it back down hard. I am more than happy to help you if you need it.
It is estimated that my elderly mom weighs 150 pounds. She stands 5'2" tall. Transfers and gaits were no problem for my mother with this belt.
