No, the foam does not detach from the surface. Because I didn't like the foam, I simply pushed them all the way down, which worked perfectly for me.

I am eligible for five free cannulas per month through Medicare, but I still have to pay for them. I'm not wealthy, but if you're going to wear something all day, it should be as comfortable as possible. The one I take off to throw away is still very soft when I replace one of these. It's not hard, and it's molded to my ears' shape. Please give them a try and let me know what you think.
This canula is extremely comfortable thanks to the foam ear pieces. They also provide support for the tubing, preventing it from being squashed by earmuffs or sleeping with your head turned. I'd purchase them again in a heartbeat. The only thing I'd like to see changed is for someone to invent a canula that allows you to replace only the part that goes around your ears and into your nose and then re-use the rest of it. Make use of the larger tubing as well as the foam earplugs. We waste far too much plastic, contributing to the plastic problem in an unnecessary way.
These are a big hit with my husband. The fact that the ear pads are already attached to the oxygen tubing is extremely convenient. We used to have to purchase both separately, but this is so much easier. They seem to last longer than when we bought the individual pieces, so I won't be buying them again. What more could you ask for? It's very comfortable and lasts a long time.

These are the worst nasal cannulas I've ever used. They don't stay in place and become hard as a rock after about a week.
The tubes had made my ears very sore. It was solved by the cushions. The drawback is that it still has a pull to it that isn't permanent.
Foam around the ears is my favorite. It's a steal! I'll never switch to a different brand again.
