I have a lot of squirrel feeders as well as bird feeders that the squirrels can't get to. I've always kept peanuts in a feeder like this one for the squirrels, and it was time to replace it this year, so I went to Amazon and found this one. The craftsmanship is exquisite and the quality is outstanding. I also like the gallon jar made of glass. I've seen some with plastic jars, and all I can say is that I'm sure the plastic would break down under the weight of the squirrels. They'd rip a hole in a plastic jar in no time. The importance of the glass jar cannot be overstated! This will be an excellent addition to my backyard for the squirrels, as well as a suitable replacement for the old one. This is a feeder that I would highly recommend!.
It's a hit with the chipmunks, who let me know when it's time to refill it. This item is extremely durable. Jar does not roll and remains in place. Filling is a breeze. Beautifully crafted.
My squirrel feeder isn't working out for me. I bought mine four months ago, and the wood has already begun to crack. I'm afraid I won't be able to return it because it's been over 30 days. Inside the cubby portion and molds, empty shells accumulate. We live in Florida, which has a lot of humidity. Because we've had a lot of rain, the inside of the cubby is completely moldy. It had a great concept, but it was poorly built. I'm going to replace it with a recycled-plastic version.
My husband gave me this as a birthday present, and we would have returned it if it hadn't been for his hard work. The bottom piece of wood that holds the glass was broken off due to poor packaging. For shipping purposes, only a small piece of paper was stuffed around it. It was a little beaten up, but I'm sure the squirrels won't mind. My husband was able to fix the bottom with washers and wood glue, but I was disappointed in the overall result. I expected more for the money at that price, and I hope to enjoy it for years because South Dakota winters are harsh, and wild life rarely survives.
This fox squirrel figured out how to use this feeder in just one week. So far, no issues with birds have arisen. I love it and plan to make one for the back yard using it as a model; I had to bring the jar in late at night because racoons were getting into it.
We have a squirrel family in the yard who only took one day to figure out how to use the feeder and now line up to take turns. It's so much fun to watch them!.
It's a huge hit with the animals. It's a hit with the squirrels and chipmunks, and it's simple to clean and refill. The wood was very dry and cracked where it was screwed together, which was my only criticism. Should have been done ahead of time Drilled holes in the wood while avoiding areas with a lot of grain.
It's well-built, squirrels can easily get in and out, and they appear to enjoy themselves. Watching them use it is something my entire family enjoys. This is a product I strongly recommend.
