Questions & Answers

ISN'T THIS HOW DAIRY QUUEN DOES IT?

No, I do not believe that is true. In comparison to this mix, the gravy on DQ's chicken strips is a little pasty or floury. I prefer the Southeastern Mills Gravy Mix, and I adore DQ's chicken strips.

If anyone knows what the average expiration date for Country gravy is, please let me know. A year?

Each package has an expiration date printed on the top. The gravy I bought a year ago will expire in March of next year. Although those are suggested "use by" dates, these products can be used after that date with no problems.

It was very runny when I made it. Do you have any recommendations?

This is a regular purchase for me, and I prepare it according to the package's instructions. It's never been runny in my experience. If anything, I usually have to add hot water after it's been on low for a few minutes to get the consistency I want (I'm aware there are two different packages of this - 3 cups of water are added first - 1 1/2 cup water is used in the other - I can only recommend that you use the recommended amount of water on the package's back.

Is this the Shawnee Mills, or something similar?

No, I don't believe that is true. Country is written on the label. With sausage, it makes a fantastic gravy.

The most delicious gravy mix I've ever tasted
5/5

UPDATE - This is no longer the case! This gravy mix is my go-to for everything. I no longer make homemade gravy. For biscuits and sausage gravy, I use sausage bits and a little seasoning. To make chicken gravy, dissolve 2 to 3 chicken bouillon cubes in water. There are a plethora of possibilities with this. I sincerely hope they continue to produce this. And, when compared to store-bought gravy mixes that only make one cup of gravy, this is a steal. This is a sure-fire winner. UPDATED IN FEBRUARY 9, 2013: WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARN They've now completely altered the mix. If you receive the "Old-School" message, It's called "Old Fashioned Country Gravy Mix," and it's a good one. If it doesn't say "Old-fashioned" or "Old-fashioned", don't buy it. It's a new mix that's LOADED with black pepper, and it simply says "Country Gravy Mix. " br>br>I ordered the Country Gravy Mix, assuming it was the same except for the fact that the packages were smaller. I was surprised to see so much black pepper in the first package, but I went ahead and made the gravy anyway. My mouth burned from the heat of the pepper. I would have ordered peppered gravy in the first place if I wanted peppered gravy. It was so bad that we didn't even finish what we had on our plates. I gave my daughter the entire case, which she is combining with another gravy mix to reduce the pepper content. br>br>I came across "Old-Fashioned-Fashionable-Fashionable-Fashionable-Fashionable So I ordered "Old Fashioned Country Gravy Mix" from the big box store's online site. In addition, it was the larger of the four. 5 oz. I assumed it was the original because it came in a package. Despite the fact that I ordered the "Old-Fashioned," I was disappointed. Instead of the old "Country Gravy Mix," I got the new "Country Gravy Mix. " I opened one package, and it's the same brand-new stuff with a lot of pepper in it. Why in the world did they change it, I have no idea! Why change this once-great gravy into another peppered gravy when they already had one? Perhaps it was so that they could make only one gravy but package it in two different ways. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> 2015 - I knew I should have updated this review sooner, but I didn't. I contacted the company to complain about the pepper-laden product I had received. They claimed that only the packaging had changed, and that I must have received a "bad" batch. It was very thoughtful of them to send me a free case. The new case had significantly less pepper than the other two cases I purchased (1 from Amazon and 1 from a big box store), but it still had significantly more pepper than the mix I had previously purchased. I had previously ordered at least 6 cases, so I am familiar with the flavor. br>br>I have since ordered another case of this, and it still contains more pepper than before, so I don't think the recipe has changed. However, I solved the excess pepper problem by combining 1 packet of Biscuit Gravy mix (which I don't usually like because it's too bland, tasting more like white sauce than gravy) with 5 packets of Country Gravy mix in a container, which improved the flavor. The pepper isn't too overpowering at this point. So, while this mix isn't as good as it once was, it's still one of the best available. YMMV.

Great gravy at an even better price! When I went back to order this, I realized it had been almost a year since I had placed my last order
5/5

We eat country fried chicken/steak a couple of times a month, and I love the 24 pack because it's so affordable. We had been looking for another white gravy since it was the only way we could eat it as a southern girl living in the north. Unfortunately, white gravy is nearly impossible to come by in this town. After reading the other reviews, we decided to give this product a try, and we were all very pleased! With three picky kids, that's a huge accomplishment. When our entire family of five sits down to eat, we usually use a couple of packs. When my kids "drown" their food in this stuff, I tell them that they should just eat the entire bowl with a spoon! ) In any case, we adore this merchandise and hope Amazon continues to sell it!.

There were no lumps at all, and the flavor was fantastic! Gravy Mix from Southeastern Mills - whichever flavor you decide to go with - This gravy is fantastic! Unlike most grocery store gravy packets, which only make one cup, this one makes 3 1/2 cups (as do their brown and peppered gravies
5/5

) ) What kind of family consumes only one cup of gravy? I can assure you that it is not a family with southern or midwestern ties. Southeastern Mills provides enough food for the entire family, with perhaps a little extra for the cat or dog. (Perhaps not. ) ) Follow the package directions for a smooth and tasty gravy every time; it's great on chicken fried steak or breaded, boneless chicken breasts, or, if you toss in some browned and crumbled country sausage and a little pepper and cook the whole thing in the skillet you browned the sausage in, it's delicious on warm biscuits.

Delicious and simple to prepare
5/5

This is my kind of stuff! On a recent trip to North Carolina, I got a package from a friend. I ordered a case of it after receiving the first package. It's simple to make, thickens nicely, and tastes delicious with a hint of tang.

Wow! Exceeded my expectations in every way
5/5

I was looking for a high-quality packaged country gravy, and the reviews influenced my decision to try this product. I enjoy country gravy on occasion, but I rarely want to make it myself. By a long shot, this is the best of the ones I've tried. I'm not sure I could make it any better, and I'm a good cook. br>br>It has a strong flavor. It has a silky, velvety texture. I didn't even put a pinch of salt on the dish. That was incredible in and of itself, because I was certain I'd need to add salt! What I did instead, which differed slightly from the instructions, was to start boiling the 2 cups of water. In the meantime, I have another cup of water in one of those Tupperware shaker things. I added that to the mix and shook it up a little bit. It came out looking fantastic. Then, once the water was boiling, I got a whisk and whisked the mixture slowly into the boiling water. It only took a minute to bring the water back to a boil and reach the desired consistency. br>br>The idea of purchasing 24 of these super-abundance of these super-abundance of these super-abundance of these super-abund sized packages was a bit intimidating, but I put them in airtight containers in the freezer and they should last well past their expiration dates. br>br>What I do is, because each package makes so much and I usually only make a small amount for myself, I freeze the rest of it in single portion sizes, then vacuum seal each one separately with my Foodsaver and take out one portion at a time. This works best for me, because I've found that if I just put country gravy in the refrigerator to use over a few days, it gets gross and separatey, even in airtight containers. If properly stored, it freezes and re-constitutes very well.

This gravy is amazing! This is the best country gravy you'll ever have
5/5

Two bags were open, and the rest of the packages were covered in flour, so I ordered a box. I'll toss those two out and use the rest; I'm a little disappointed that two of them were already open, but I really like this product.
