In 2016, Kuehne - the owner of Gundelsheim - changed the packaging and discontinued using the Gundelsheim brand, replacing it instead with Kuehne Barrel. The recipe has not been changed.

What is the pasteurization status of the product?

I have a jar whose expiration date is December 15, 2018. There is no indication that it is fermented or pasteurized on the label. Fermented it is (sauerkraut is fermented) but I'd be very interested in knowing if it has been pasteurized in order to check whether the beneficial probiotics of the fermentation process have been destroyed by the pasteurization process.

The ingredients are listed on the jar, can you please tell me what they are?

The fermentation process destroys nutrients when kraut is pasteurized, which is what is happening when it is heated. It's the same as the sauerkraut you get at the supermarket for two dollars. I didn't see the warning until I read the label, misleading advertising. A word of caution to the buyer.

Having said that, I've been trying to improve the 'flora' in my stomach by eating a bit better every day. The sauerkraut can add a bit more flavor to my dish, while working to improve the digestive process in my stomach. Whenever I am feeling lazy or bad (or both) and hotdogs are on the menu, I add some Kuehne sauerkraut with some German mustard and that makes a great meal that isn't too heavy on Although I'm definitely going to purchase more, I have found Amazon Whole Foods to have it for about a third of the price ($6 vs $15). * *

The Kuehne stuff doesn't have the awful taste and stiff texture that you find in most domestic store bought krauts. It has a pleasant flavour and a tender texture. I used to have a lot of this stuff when I was We would like to add a small amount of Schmitt Söhne Riesling to the Germany we are going to visit. . . . Oh yeah, this German kraut comes in a glass jar and is very cool.

I have never tasted more delicious sauerkraut than this! It is seriously the best sauerkraut I have ever tasted! As part of my healthy diet, I've been adding more vegetables to my gut, including sauerkraut, which is a good source of good bacteria

There's a problem with sauerkraut generally it's too salty or has a strong taste for me, but this Kuehne sauerkraut is surprisingly mild, and I can actually eat just one spoonful all Besides being overpriced, my only complaint is that it's too expensive. Usually, I have no trouble finding Kuehne sauerkraut at my local grocery story for about six dollars. It has been a while since I have purchased this on Amazon since the store is often out of stock. This is the only complaint I have, but other than that, I liked the product.

Pasteurization has been used in the production of this sauerkraut. Bacteria that are good for health are destroyed during pasteurization. When you're looking for probiotics in a sauerkraut - you'll find them in this way. Please beware! I didn't know this from the listing here until I received the product, and it says that on the jar in the ingredients list. A little bit of deceptive marketing there.
