When the ingredients list reads "Anaheim," why does the product say "hatch"?

Anaheim is a chile pepper variety, not a California city. This variety is grown both in and out of New Mexico. Hatch refers to the region where the peppers are grown and includes a number of cultivars; it is not a chile variety.

What is the weight in cups per pound?

BUT THIS ONLY APPLIES TO WATER, ON WHICH THE ENGLISH MEASUREMENT STANDARD IS BASED. A pound of water (16 ounces) equals two cups of water (8 ounces each). Hatch Chile powder is lighter than water and has a lower density. I figure that 3 cups per pound is about right. It's worth noting that the Amazon container is 18 ounces, not a pound, and yields just under 3 1/2 cups or 55 tablespoons. To get an accurate measurement, lightly tap the measuring cup on the counter to settle the powder.

Is this a better chili powder than the regular stuff?

Yes, I believe so. This is chili powder in its purest form. What we call "chili powder" in the United States is actually chili powder plus cumin, garlic, and oregano; this is the pure stuff, sans the other spices, and Hatch is known for being the top of the chili market. So, in a nutshell, you're getting a purer, higher-quality chili powder. If you prefer a more complex flavor, you can always add cumin, garlic, and other spices.

Is there any garlic powder in this, or is it just chili powder?

D. , you'd never come across such low-grade chile powder. I decided to include this item in a purchase just to see how good it was. Now that I've lived in the Mesilla Valley for six years, I can tell you firsthand that the "Hatch Chile" that this company sells is of the lowest quality imaginable. When I opened the container and smelled it, I realized I had been duped; there was no pleasant aroma of Hatch Chile, which I had grown to love, but instead a flat one-dimensional odor of staleness and deception. Then there was the taste, which left me disappointed but also disgusted because the taste was even flatter than the smell, and to make matters worse, there was a strong chemical taste from the added SILICON DIOXIDE, which was not mentioned anywhere in the item's description. BTW, I've had bags of quality red chile powder stored away season after season and have never had a problem with any of it "caking," so it stands to reason that the addition of Silicon Dioxide is done solely to add filler and extend the profitability of this product. Additionally, and also missing from this item's description is the fact that it is "Treated by Irradiation," is this product so horribly bad and contaminated that it is "Treated by Irradiation?" Having said that, I did prepare some of it in the most basic of ways, using a bit of roux, a little garlic, a pinch of oregano, and the tiniest amount of cumin, as well as S What was the outcome? The end result was exemplified by the old adage, "garbage in, garbage out. " The sauce remained gritty after 30 minutes of simmering, no doubt due to all the seed and stem that had been ground fine as dirt and added to this powder, and the flavor was bland, flat, and reminiscent of the worst canned commercial products imaginable. br>br>Is it any surprise, then, that this product is "Not Returnable" due to the manufacturer's omission of added "Silicon Dioxide" and "Irradiation"? Could there be a more egregious example of a company's deception than what D'Allesandro Gourmet has done to Amazon customers through these omissions and the product's egregious quality? If you're looking for high-quality Hatch NM chile, do yourself a favor and order directly from Hatch Chile Express or the Hatch Chile Store. You'll be glad you took the time to do so. Oh, and Amazon should be ashamed for allowing this company to take advantage of me for $10.

If you're looking for chili powder, like the kind you use to season a big pot of chili, this isn't it, but you CAN make your own! Add 1 tbsp to 2 tbsp of this. 5 tsp cumin and garlic powder each, plus 3/4 tsp. a pinch of onion powder If you like your food spicy, add half a teaspoon or more cayenne pepper. That's chili powder, right there. Consider it a paprika-like spice. You can use it in any recipe, but if you use it in place of chili powder, it will taste as if something is missing.

I'm a big fan of Hatch chilies, so when I saw this on Amazon, I knew I had to get it. After giving it a try, it quickly became one of my favorite "go to" chili powders in my spice cabinet (of which I have several). It's flavorful, but not overpoweringly so. There is some heat in it, but it isn't excessive. It's a LOT milder than cayenne powder, for example. In fact, I prefer to combine the two - Hatch for flavor and richness, and cayenne for a little heat. This is a surprisingly versatile powder that can be used in a variety of ways, including spice rubs, marinades, and simply sprinkling on poultry. Of course, it'd be fantastic in any chili or tomato-based dish. a soup or a dish that is based on a soup base I usually just toss a tablespoon of it into whatever spice rub I'm making for added flavor and to make something a little different. You can't go wrong with this powder because it doesn't burn or heat, and it has a great flavor. br>br>I like that it comes in a large container that will last a long time, and that it is reasonably priced.

NOTHING COMPARES TO HATCH RED CHILI POWDER

Nothing compares to the chili grown in Hatch, New Mexico. That is, at least, my opinion as a native of the area who grew up there. I still can't live without it now that I've moved to the Midwest. As a result, I was ecstatic to discover this Amazon seller. The product is a mild red chili powder with a much better flavor than what you'd find in a supermarket. It comes in a nice, professional-looking spice-type plastic bottle that makes dispensing a breeze. Additionally, the product arrived promptly.

I've never seen anything of this caliber before. It's extremely difficult to find straight hair that isn't mixed in with a million other things you don't want. If you want to make your own Chili blend, this is probably where you should start and add whatever ingredients you like. This is the highest-quality product I've come across. The heat is mild, but there is a flavor to it that some people may find offensive if they are used to completely bland food.

It easily dissolves in cooking juices, water, or oil. It's an excellent substitute for the more common Hatch green chile products. If you've ever visited the southwest United States, you'll know that one of the most common questions asked in Mexican restaurants is whether the food is red or green. This product has a nice red color. br>br>It's not overly hot. There are plenty of hotter chiles available if you prefer more heat. What I've discovered in Mexican style cooking is that expert chefs combine two or more chile products with different flavor profiles. Combinations of chiles can also be used to increase the heat level. I prefer things a little spicier than this powder, but I can easily add a dash of ghost pepper sauce to my own serving after cooking to ensure that my guests are not put off by the heat.

We've been using red chili powder for about 30 years, and this one is among the best; however, everyone's tolerance for hot peppers varies, so this may be medium hot for some and mild for others. It's mild for me, which I like because I can use a lot of it and still get a good flavor. Mild is preferred by my family. The packaging is very nice. This is something I'm going to order for my brother today. Thanks!.
