It's most likely because it accepts EBT food stamps. I've noticed that a lot of sellers do it. It is abhorrent.

I'm hoping that everyone else is doing the same thing before starting to cook.
I'm not saying rice from Vietnam isn't good, and I'm not sure about the quality there, but this item is advertised as "Grown in the mountain highlands of Thailand" on the product page, while the bag it's packaged in clearly states "Product of Vietnam" on the back. Customer service implied that the rice came from Thailand and was processed in Vietnam, which could be true but seemed unlikely. I couldn't find any proof of this anywhere, including on the Iiberiafood website. I was perplexed by the com site, which appeared to be primarily Hispanic-oriented foods. br>br>I requested a refund and received it, allowing me to purchase my preferred brand, a 10 pound bag of Hom Mali Thai rice, which is without a doubt the best Jasmine rice available. I'm not usually picky about brands, but when it comes to Jasmine, I am, and I like to know where my food comes from because it makes a difference. (And don't even get me started on California garlic's superior quality! ) In any case, I deducted a star because there was a discrepancy between what the product description advertised and what was actually on the packaging, and I made my purchase based on that information after conducting extensive research into the product. For all I know, the rice could be as good as or better than Thai rice, but I'm donating this bag to our local food bank and sticking to brands I'm familiar with from now on. It was a good lesson.
However, as another reviewer pointed out, this is definitely not Jasmine rice; it's just plain old long grain white rice. It isn't even close to being Jasmine rice. I'll use what I have because it's all I have, but I'll do everything I can to avoid buying this brand. Also, if you have other options and prefer Jasmine rice, skip this item.
The flavor of Jasmine rice is almost non-existent in this rice. I wouldn't buy this product again unless they sent me a free sample with a completely different flavor profile; it tastes exactly like plain long grain rice.
After I purchased three bags of what I thought was jasmine rice, the price of this rice nearly tripled. I purchased three bags because I thought it was jasmine rice, but it isn't. It's like one of the reviews says that after I made my purchase, I can't get a refund because there is no Amazon support other than the app, which is a chatbot, so I'm stuck with three bags of rice that I don't want.
It doesn't have the same flavor or aroma as Jasmine rice.
I've tried a lot of different Jasmine rice brands, and this one has to be the worst! It has no jasmine flavor, fragrance, or taste.
Then we began to use this rice in Indian dishes such as idli and dosa. Those dishes were so tasty that I purchased several packets for Indian breakfast dishes. I didn't notice any long grain, but it was of good quality. It comes in excellent packaging.
