A greater percentage of raw meat than roasted meat. BLAND is the best way to describe the flavor. To get any noticeable flavor out of these nuts, I will have to roast them gently myself. That being said, they were FRESH and did not have any residual coating on them, so I am thankful for that. It makes them easy to roast, but I must say that these hazelnuts are the best ones I have ever bought. Rich, flavorful food is what I enjoy, and these lack it. If you roast them under low heat to bring out the flavor, the flavor will be enhanced, but in some cases the flavor has been enhanced even without further roasting. I think this is a good product, if not a great one.
Some pieces are I apparently do not share the same perception of what hazelnuts should taste like as most reviewers of this product. The flavor that makes me think of hazelnut is one that is strong, positive and distinct. However, this product does not meet that criteria. Although very crunchy (something I've never used to associate with hazelnuts), they are very light in color (almost raw), and have only a faint taste of hazelnut. My tastebuds were not satisfied with what I've become accustomed to (especially in most roasted Hazelnuts and European Chocolate). A disappointment, to be honest.
