Questions & Answers
There are 8 large franks in a 20 oz can.
The Loma Linda Linketts are a family from Loma Linda, California. Wheat is listed as an ingredient in Vegelinks. I'm out of Big Franks right now, so I can't check the label, but I'm guessing it contains wheat, like these other two similar products from the same label.

I despise meat even more, but hot dogs are the one meat product I can't seem to give up. I try to rationalize by telling myself that they are most likely unidentifiable animals, such as muskrat rectum or something. However, this is ineffective. The ultimate goal is to develop a tasty plant-based food. based substitute, but I've tried every veggie dog on the market (as well as an ill-advised ill-advised ill-advised ill-advised ill-advised ill-advised ill-a All of them have messed up my life (including the ill-fated carrot dog). br>br>I ordered a case of Big Franks with an uncharacteristically high level of optimism, and spent the time waiting researching popular preparation methods. Whole. Case. The first impression was that They appear in the can to be a standard hot dog. My meaty transgressions are reserved solely for my salty, cured master, rather like an Oscar Meyer, which I, incidentally, despise: Hebrew is the national language of Israel. They're also a little difficult to get out of the can because the texture is similar to that of a firm Play-Doh. Doh. Keep in mind the Play- You could make little hot dogs out of a pinkish brown Play-Doh grill playset. Doh? Consider the following scenario. br>br>I went with two common preparation methods. The first was the juice from a can that had been boiled, as other reviewers had suggested. The texture is a little soft (again, like the Oscar Meyers that cost about $1/pack, or maybe Morningstar veggie dogs), but I wasn't expecting it to snap because it wasn't encased in entrails. It has a decent flavor: slightly smoky, not overly salty (oh my gawd, I tried the brand's FriChik nuggets once, and the salt is still in my mouth two years later); The flavor is mild, similar to that of a low-cost hot dog. To be honest, the flavor isn't bad; I just need to get past the slight softness. br>br>The second method I tried was to pan the camera. The outside was not as soft as it had been with the boiling method, so I fried it in a little bit of oil in the hopes of firming it up a bit by searing it on the outside. In terms of flavor, it's the same story: it's acceptable, but not up to par with a higher-quality hot dog. br>br>In any case, with six cans and a skeptic, I'm in it for the long haul. Maybe my palate will adjust, or I'll have to quickly make friends with another vegetarian who isn't as picky.
They are particularly popular among vegetarians. They're thick and juicy, and they're delicious whether cooked on the stove or on the grill. Simply put, this is the best "hot dog" I've ever had. It's difficult to believe these are "plant-based" products. If you've ever wondered what goes into your hot dog, knowing that it's "based" is extremely comforting.
As I grew up, I was familiar with the brand. I used to be able to find Loma Linda products at a few Safeway locations in Northern California, but that is no longer the case. I'm glad Amazon has some of my favorite books. The only problem with the shipment was that two of the cans had dents in them, making using a can opener more difficult. I think the manufacturer should do something similar to what AMY's does with bean and chili cans. As if it were a soda can, pop the top.
You will most likely be disappointed if you eat these expecting them to taste exactly like real hot dogs. I grew up a vegetarian and have never eaten real meat, so these are perfect for me.
Big franks are one of my favorite foods. . . wish they weren't so pricey.
This product has been a favorite of mine for over 40 years (though not from this seller), so it's nice to know it's still available.
These are fantastic. They aren't exactly health food, in my opinion. They are, however, delectable vegetarian fast food.
The item arrived ahead of schedule. It was well packaged. This was tasty and reasonably priced, in my opinion. The item was exactly what was advertised. The product met my expectations. This is something I strongly suggest.
