The pasta is delicious in and of itself. The sauce, on the other hand, is a bit of a mishmash. 'Penne with Olive Oil' is written on the package. When I read the microwave instructions, "let stand. . " I became concerned. "As the sauce cools, it will thicken. " Sauce? Both in terms of taste and consistency, it wasn't very good. I put cheese on top of it; It was ineffective. The basil comes next. It was ineffective. After that, there was a lot of Italian seasoning. Cheese, cheese, and more cheese At that point, the food was edible. I was unable to complete it. It's cold where it's at. I just took a bite, and it wasn't half bad. Pasta is delicious, both in terms of flavor and texture. It's not mushy and lasts a long time. So, I figured out how to decipher the code! Good reviews come from people who use the pasta as a base and then add other ingredients. It's not so good when you're on your own. I wasn't expecting sauce, but rather plain pasta with a squirt of oil! Everything will be fine once the sauce has been absorbed.
It's not pasta, I swear! OVERSEAS First and foremost, let me state that I am a huge pasta fan and eater. I've experimented with a variety of pasta substitutes. I've tried everything from regular fresh zucchini Zoodles to those disgusting shirataki noodles. The texture was unbearable in and of itself. About a year ago, I decided to abandon locking in favor of an alternative. So, I was just shopping on Amazon Fresh the other day, and I was looking for pasta, and this was one of the options that came up. I clicked on it because the picture on the package resembled actual pasta. I read a few reviews and the majority of them were positive, so I decided to give them a try, not expecting them to be that good or even have a pasta texture. Well, to my surprise, they looked and tasted delicious (including the al dente pasta texture). To be honest, I was taken aback!! They're absolutely fantastic. I added some salt, butter, ghost pepper flakes (I like spicy food) and parmesan cheese, and I swear I would have mistaken them for real pasta if I hadn't known what they were. I'm going to speak up because I'm blown away by how incredible this is. Birds- With this one, eye really knocked it out of the park. You did an amazing job.
I cooked the noodles in the microwave, then drained the water and firmed them up with a little olive oil. My husband had no idea they were made out of vegetables! It's simple and tasty.
I use the term'sauce' loosely because I have yet to find a version of this frozen pasta substitute that I prefer to even the most dreadful jarred sauce (let alone what I make). Having said that, the 'pasta' in and of itself is fantastic! I like the olive oil penne because it's simple to remove the half-frozen sauce cubes after a few minutes in the microwave, and voila! It's a clean slate on which to write something far more meaningful. The penne itself has a texture and mouth feel that is as close to glutenous pasta as I've found.
Unfortunately, I didn't care for this product; I'm not sure if it was the pasta or the sauce, but it had a slimy texture that became worse as I chewed. I've had other veggie "pastas" that were tasty and didn't taste like mucus, so I wouldn't recommend this one.
I like how you can put it in the bag and zap it. It tastes fine, but the serving size is quite small. I ordered it, however, because I am celiac. "Gluten-free" is depicted in this photo. On the label, it says "free. " I'm not sure if that means they added "gluten-free" to the bag I got, because it doesn't say that. If they had to remove the "gluten-free" label and I received an old, unlabeled bag, or if they had to remove the "gluten-free" label and I received an old, unlabeled bag, "Free" label (due to cross-contamination discovery). . . ?.
This is a great alternative to traditional noodles. It's best if you microwave it. Unless they're cooked in a sauce, they don't do well on top of the stove. Cooking traditional noodles in water or broth works well because overcooking causes them to stick together and fall apart.
