Salty to the extreme. Only use half a package if you're going to use them in something big and bland, like great northern bean soup or something. Don't even try to eat it as a salad because the sodium content is way too high. The flavor of this Smithfield product is good, but the sodium levels in this and their homestyle pork roast need to be reduced significantly.
I needed a lot of ham for a recipe, so I bought this Smithfield ham and compared it to the Morrell diced ham. The Morrell came out on top. The Smithfield was acceptable, and I would purchase it if the Morrell was unavailable. The Morrell, on the other hand, had a stronger ham flavor and was less salty. In addition, the Smithfield's bag contained a significant amount of liquid, whereas the Morrell's did not. I believe the Smithfield ham contains more water. The Morrell has larger dice than the Smithfield.
I bought it for a different purpose, but it ended up in a quiche. I felt ecstatic: The ham was perfectly smoked and had an 'off-the-bone' texture in the mouth. br>I'm only sorry to report that the quiche didn't last until after dinner because everyone went back for seconds. Great product and a great choice for a quick meal or when you need to save time on prep!.
It is roughly 1/8" thick and diced very finely. The flavor was OK for me; it wasn't particularly strong, but it was sufficient. There was some fat, but not nearly as much as I've seen in other packaged pork slices, diced, or ground. But where this really shined was the fact that there was not a single piece of gristle in it! It's uncommon to find pork of that caliber before it's been cooked. As a result, they received a 4-star rating from me. a five-star rating.
We keep this in the fridge for quiches whenever we want them (due to its long shelf life). Cryo- The ham stays fresh for a long time in the package, and it's ready to go at a moment's notice because quiche is actually EASY to make if you use refrigerated Pillsbury pie crusts! Good! WOW! Add some sautéed onions and mushrooms, as well as spinach, and you've got yourself a meal. Breakfast, brunch, or supper will be a breeze with this recipe!.
Because Smithfield is known for its high quality, I had high hopes for this. I wasn't impressed at all. The flavor was on the light side, and the pieces were quite small. This addition to my breakfast omelette had very little flavor; there were pieces to "chew on," but there was very little flavor.
The expiration date on this item was the previous month when I received it. I'm glad I checked because salmonella or food poisoning combined with a pandemic is just too much to handle.
I made fried rice out of it.
