" Hunt's is a good "starter" sauce for some tomato dishes, but it's not something I'd eat on its own. All of the flavors (Meat, Traditional, Four Cheese, Garlic, and Herb) are bland and have little variation. This sauce has a thin consistency and no visible chunks. Ideal for toddlers, but not so much for adults. I keep a few cans of Hunt's on hand for last-minute dishes when I don't have time to simmer sauce for hours. br>br>To thicken the sauce for pasta, I add more spices and garlic, sugar, sometimes mushroom/onion/peppers, and tomato paste. When I use this sauce as part of a larger dish, the other flavors in the recipe usually help to brighten it up. For me, Hunt's is a basic, low-cost pantry staple that saves time and effort but can't quite stand on its own.
While it requires some assistance, particularly in the form of spices, it makes for a good quick sauce. I add garlic, onion, and basil and it produces a decent sauce at a reasonable price.
