It actually didn't smell that bad compared to the blueberry muffins at Udi's which, when I tried them, I had hoped that the taste would be better than the smell. Once again I was disappointed when I made a mistake. In this case, there was an odd taste/smell combination going on as well, but it was different in the sense that there weren't any smells.
Another question that kept in my mind was, shouldn't this smell like vanilla at the very least? However, there was no odor I could detect. The unease at that struck me, though I tried to dismiss it, hoping it was nothing more than a technicality. The microwave instructions were exactly followed, and it was placed in the microwave for about 30 seconds into the microwave, and then let it sit for a few minutes to cool. There was something I ate that was freshly cooked. Although the texture and consistency of the cake was similar to that of Udi's and Pilsbury's gluten free breads I usually cook in the oven, this cake had a different taste. This is my newest favorite. As someone with a VERY restricted diet due to allergies as well as a serious sweet tooth, these are really a great option for meal replacement. Since I am all about almond extract and that extra sweetness, I add a drop or two of almond extract to the batter before putting it in the microwave. The first time I bought these, it was to treat my child to a special treat. The chocolate as well as the vanilla are great. You can make them with your kids easily and they are fun. Having a sweet tooth is one of my pet peeves As a Celiac Disease patient, I am extremely sensitive to gluten.
