Questions & Answers

Is this item still functional if the dis isn't active? Thanks. ?

You'll need a compass to get the direction if you're using it for dish pointing. By entering the nearest zip code into your satellite box, you should be able to obtain this information from your unit. If you're watching TV with your satellite dish. On a camper, any office store will have a zip code directory. Now that you've got your zip code, enter it into the setup program for your satellite box. If you use your compass to point the dish in the right direction, you'll be fine. Between the dish and the signal meter, you must use a one-foot length of the same type of cable. Then connect the other end of the cable to the sat box. The signal from the dish provides the power. So you have the dish, a 1 or 2 foot jumper cable (short piece cable) between the dish and the signal box's line in, the signal box, and then the cable from the dish box tuner box that is used to change channels to the signal meter's out side. All that's left to do now is rase the dish until a signal appears. If the signal is too strong, turn down the volume on the meter to fine-tune it. It's not a good idea to have a very strong signal. Make it as short as possible while still receiving a signal. This will assist you in determining where the satellite is located. br> Now that you've got it dialed in, let's move on to the next step. Place the dish in its proper location and lock it in place. Remove the short cable and signal box, then connect the cable from the satellite box to complete the installation. br> I hope this has been of assistance.

Is it possible to upgrade the Rm 4610 to a HDTV for Directv?

I'm not sure about an upgrade, but my signal meter experience has taught me to save my money. After only using it once, I was completely burnt out. When I tried to use it again, the warranty period had expired.

Is this compatible with DirectTV's swm satellite service?

It's a signal strength meter that works with Dish and claims to work with Direct as well. For power, it requires the receiver to be turned on, which I didn't like, so I made my own 18volt power supply using two 9volt batteries and an F type connector. It works perfectly.

Is this meter compatible with both the dish network and the satellite network?

Yes, it does, and it is very effective in locating the satellite dish that you desire, Ralph.

WARNING TO BUYERS! When I got it, I put it on my Direct TV dish and watched it
3/5

On one side of the unit, it is connected to the LNB, and on the other side, it is connected to the receiver. To get the best signal, I wanted to fine-tune the dish even more. It worked for approximately 4 minutes after being hooked up. I looked at the unit to apply settings while reading the paper instructions that came with it, and the display was "blinking on and off. " From the receiver, I disconnected the unit and used my multimeter to check the voltage. It had a constant voltage output. I tried again to connect the meter, but the problem remained. Every 2 or 3 seconds (roughly), the device will turn off and on. I ran another multimeter test and got the same results as the first one: constant voltage output. This is when I realized I had been given "BOBEQ," or "BAD OUT OF THE BOX EQUIPMENT. " I made the decision to send it back for a refund. br>br>NOT A GOOD IDEA! TO AVOID THIS INCONVENIENCE, THIS SELLER MAY WISH TO TEST EVERYTHING THEY SELL PRIOR TO SENDING IT OUT TO THE CUSTOMER!.

It didn't get me perfectly aligned, but it got me close enough that I could fine-tune it later
4/5

After upgrading my dish from standard definition to high definition (3-D), LNB) Using a compass and my eyes, I attempted to aim the dish. However, after a day of trying, this failed. As a result, I placed an order for this item. It didn't get me perfectly aligned, but it got me close enough that I could fine-tune it later. Both of my SAT tuners on the DVR receive approximately a 97% signal. In the last three days, my area has also received 8 inches of rain. Only a few times did I lose the satellite signal for a few hours at a time, but that's to be expected. Overall, this item should assist you in getting close to the correct alignment position, and it is well worth the $11 price tag. NOTE ON THE SIDE: Once the ALT is lowered and more accurate, you will need to remove this digital finder when installing and searching for the Satellite dish in the sky. This allows the DVR to acquire signal and show the true of signal being acquired. At least in my situation this was the case. I couldn't finish the satellite setup or the DVR settings because this piece was still in the way between the dish and the receiver.

The problem is that it finds every satellite
3/5

This is what I use after I've used a free app on my phone to find the correct satellite for my system. The majority of the previous comments about false readings are incorrect; this unit is simply looking at one of the many satellites in the sky. That is why you should download the "Satfinder Lite" App, which allows you to pick and choose only the satellites you want! Once you've found the satellite, you can use this device to fine-tune the signal without having to run in and out of the TV room or requiring the assistance of a second person. It's worth noting that this app also displays line of sight, letting you know if anything is blocking your signal.

Satellite Meters and Finders are a complete waste of money
3/5

First and foremost, I've been installing satellite dishes since 1984 - When they took over the market, they served both large and small dishes. I've got somewhere around 200 small dishes installed. My Birddog Ultra battery died, so I had no choice but to purchase this meter. There aren't any replacements to be found. Please let me know if you are aware of any. As a result, I purchased two less expensive meters/finders, one of which was this one. I figured one of them would suffice. But nope! During my installation, neither of them provided me with signal variations. It's rubbish from China. I used a $4 bill in the end. About 15 years ago, I received a 00 inline meter in a kit. It's also a junk meter, but it gives you enough information to be useful. The Satellite Industry is in a bad situation. Customer service is a disaster. Companies are still selling Birddog Ultras without a way to replace the batteries for a high price, and there is no good customer service! How are you supposed to call for help if you don't have a phone? They're a bunch of jerks selling a bunch of jerks' instruments.

Junk is a great way to save money
3/5

I've been watching DTV in my RV for more than 25 years and have never used a finder like this. The first time I used it, everything was fine, but after a month, this unit would register a signal but never change its value when I adjusted the dish. I should have paid more attention to the reviews because there was a lot more Chinese garbage. Yes, it's out of warranty, so there'll be no refund, and I'm just hoping I saved you some money and time. br>br>After several calls, Amazon came to my rescue, and they're still the best I've ever used. Thank you very much.

Just OK
3/5

It appears to function correctly. However, I wish I had purchased an analog one. 1. br>br> The compass is completely broken. Because north face does not rotate, I can make it face any direction I want. 2. br>br>1. br>br>br>br>br>br The beeping is useful because it lets you know what's going on without having to look at the meter. 3. br>br>4. br>br>5. br>br>6. It appears that the Guage is all or nothing, even after adjusting the meter. It will jump from 67% to 99%, but not anywhere in between. It will be begged at 99% of rotational adjustment. I just found the low and high points where the beeing completely stopped and adjusted until I was in the middle of the two. This is why I believe the analog gauge will provide more accurate fine tuning.

Analog signal meter that is simple to use and accurate
5/5

My old analog dish needed a DIY fix, so I did it myself. repairing a faulty LNB - I needed a meter to make sure the dish was pointing correctly, that the signal strength was adequate, and that the receiver was supplying power. This meter can be used with both analog and LNB satellites. It is simple to use and is powered by the receiver. I may not need this item again unless we move, but even if it is only used once, it was worthwhile to purchase. I imagine this would be useful on a daily basis if you're camping or living in a mobile home and can't live without satellite television.

Maybe you'll find your satellite by accident, but not with this! The directions are completely ineffective
3/5

I'll say it again: It is completely useless. You can't get any information out of this device unless you spend hours on your roof switching between three different settings with varying levels. You can turn it all the way down to zero, as the useless instructions suggest, but who cares? Even though I had the satellite's azimuth, skew, and elevation dialed in, it never picked up anything. This cute but useless satellite detection meter does not deserve a one-star rating.
