Questions & Answers

As a renter, I live in an apartment. When it's removed, does it leave a big hole in the door frame?

What you put in is what you get out. It was pretty neat and tidy where the holes were.

(I have a steel door and frame) Does it have to be mortised into the door frame?

In order to attach it to your door frame, it must be mortised.

Is it possible to mount it into a metal frame for a door?

The frame of the device does not rely on the base to secure the door, so it shouldn't matter what material it is made of. The wall will need to have wood studs in order for this device to work, so if the wall doesn't have wood studs, I would not recommend it. If the wall does have wood studs, then yes, I would It may be possible to install this device to a wall that does not have wood studs, however access to the interior of the wall is needed to ensure proper installation. Furthermore, the screws that come with the package will strip out. I want to buy the star Instead of wood screws, use head wood screws.

Can you put this product on from the inside, or is it only applicable when you're at home? If you exit from that door, could it be applied from the inside, ?

Exactly. That's what we're trying to do.

My Experience With The Door Bull
3/5

I rarely write reviews, but I thought I might be of help to others by sharing what I learned from installing and using this product. I first learned about this product on a DIY Network As an intriguing product, and offering me more security and peace of mind, it sounds like an ideal product for me. I'm not alone. This is the first time I've wanted to purchase it, but have been hoping it would drop in price like the one that happened The price has not changed in some time so I finally decided to buy it at the current price and not the sale price.

As other people have already mentioned, the mounting hardware, specifically the screws and drill bit included inside the box, are of As a result, I had to drill my own 1/8" hole with my own drill bit to verify that the screws are zinc. In spite of being aware of the low quality of the mounting hardware and excessively cautious It comes before Drilling holes, setting my power drill to the correct torque setting, taking my time, etc. ) I also almost stripped out some of the screws. The PH2 phillips screw bit (shown in photo) seemed to fit the head of the provided 3" screws the best. In my photo, you can see that I mortised the door jam into which the Door Bull mounting bracket was installed. In the end, I simply held the main Door Bull mounting bracket up to the door jam and traced around it with a pencil. Then I chiseled it down to the proper depth (about 1/8") so that it would look totally flush. Without mortising the Door Bull in, I would not have been able to build my door because there was very little gap between the door and the jam - excellent for keeping the weather out, but it meant that I had to mortise it in otherwise it would not have been possible for me. A total of six 3" low quality zinc screws come with the Door Bull. The three screws for mounting the main Door Bull bracket are included with the package, and the three other screws are supposed to be used to replace the shorter screws in three hinges on your door (opposite side of door to the location of Door Bull) with longer screws, which is an awesome I was shocked to see just how short most of the screws that were in the hinges and screwed into the door jam were when I started swapping them out. I took a photo of what is in the Door Bull box, as the 9" screw on the left. I had to use a 3/4" screw to hold my door to the door jamb and that was the only screw I had. The 3/4" screws I saw on my door hinges was far too short, and it seemed like ever angry toddler might kick the door in on the hinge side. After seeing just how short the screws were, I purchased some 3" wood screws from my local hardware store (missing screw in picture). To replace the 3/4" hinge screws with 3" wood screws, I used the longer 3" I wanted even more protection and my door had four hinges. The Door Bull comes with three screws, so you can replace one screw in each hinge with a longer one, but I wanted even more protection since my door had four hinges altogether. In order for me to be better protected, I wanted to make sure that if I was going to purchase and install this product for security purposes that it would be done correctly and not leave several 3/4" hinge screws as the weakest part of my This product is of good/decent quality, both for the main mounting bracket and for the part that slides over it when in use (which has the Door Bull logo on it). As far as quality goes, they are both made of aluminum and I have had no issues with them. It was also very helpful that the Door Bull convinced me to check the door hinge screws, since they gave me three of them, otherwise I would not have realized just how short the door hinge screws were. This door bull feels very solid to me, and I have to say that I believe it has increased the security of my door significantly. Prior to this, I had a cheap white flip latch on the door, which is a decent alternative, but isn't designed to provide much security against someone deliberately trying to force their way into your home. Compared to the Door Bull, it certainly does a much better job, and I do hope that I never have to use it in the real world, but I trust that it will work as it is intended to. This much money being spent on something that is meant to help improve the security of your home, I would expect the Door Bull to come with higher quality mounting screws and a better drilling If they use zinc screws instead of stainless steel screws, I would love to see them use the latter. Furthermore, it would have been nice if they would have provided more hinge screws (more than just three), but, as I mentioned, at least they got my attention by making me check those out. In most cases, the Door Bull doesn't work well with the door being held to the jam by extremely short 3/4" hinge screws. There was definitely a weak point on the entire vertical side of the door (opposite side to where the Door Bull is mounted). As a result of replacing my 3/4" hinge screws with 3" screws, I now have much more confidence in the security of my entire door set up. Specifically, I gave 3 out of 5 stars to the Door Bull because it came with cheap mounting screws and a If they had provided high-quality mounting screws and a drill bit (which is really what they should do for the price that they are charging), I would have given it a 5-star rating. If Door Bull is unable to reduce the price of its product to match the cheap mounting hardware provided, another option would be to provide more affordable mounting hardware. Because this product is designed to improve security, it would be right for them to make sure that all of the hardware provided is of The update for 11/5/19 is as follows Stainless steel screws will be used in the Door Bull since user feedback has led them to change the screws. After I learn the date of when the change in production will be implemented (or will come into effect), I will update my rating for this product. I thank Door Bull for reading our feedback and the actions you took to further improve the product! Thank you so much for your kind words.

You may still be able to use the device There are plenty of cheap products on the market
3/5

Today I bought this to add another layer of security to my home. There is a chance that it will Even if it does, it won't be due to the quality of the It was easy to strip the screws. I had to break off the drill bit after it failed to stay secured in the drill because the drill bit was rounded and did not fit properly within the drill. Since it costs so much, it wouldn't hurt the manufacturer if the mounting hardware were of higher quality. Since I saw it for as much as $120, I guess I did pretty well with my $60 purchase. This game is worth about $20 if you can afford it.

I liked the product, but the screws and drill bits were very cheap
3/5

As far as the cheap drill bit and screws provided, I agree with some of the previous reviews. The one I own was purchased just before Christmas in was very careful when using the drill bit, but I know it could be dangerous. It took me a few minutes to install the door jam plate with #10 3" Spax screws -- You can see photos in the gallery. Spax screws #10 project as far as the head of a set screw, so if your door closes with the set screw, it should also close with The screw I had handy held well and is small enough to fit in a smaller space, however if you want a smaller screw, you could go smaller. Furthermore, I used the same screws in the door jambs to replace some of the short 1" screws that were already there. Having had the Door Bull for a short while, I never used the zinc screws provided because I worried they would strip or snap. I also wanted a stronger In terms of the product itself, I'm pretty satisfied.

It's the next best thing to bracing the door with a 2' by 4'
5/5

It was important to secure my outside basement door, which is one of my heavy and solid wood doors It's one of those things they no longer make. Easily installed in 5 to 10 minutes, the Door Bull is a great product to have. Is secure enough to fit snugly and is just snug enough to be effective. This can be used in conjunction with the existing knob lock and deadbolt to provide additional security The device is very solid and effective. With the three 3-inch bolts In addition, the Door Bull provides a very wide latching area that is almost three times as large as the deadbolt alone. In addition to having 4-inch screws going deep into the jamb, the Door Bull also has a plate design. In order to open the door, anyone kicking it must break the door down and work the jamb to slivers before there can be any progress. My garage door will soon have another one installed. I will be ordering another one soon.

I have a problem with the hardware
3/5

When I read the reviews about this product, I noticed that there was a lot of concern about the screws that came with it. However, when I read the manufacturer's response, I saw that they started using better quality screws after hearing those concerns. Since this was what I was looking for in a garage side door, I decided to take a chance. Take no notice of a word that is said! There was nothing to be proud of about the screws. When you install the very first one, which doesn't even get tightened all the way and is intended to be removed at the end, it immediately strips. There was nothing I could do to get the thing out because it was so soft that anything I tried I'm now going to have to buy screw extractor drill bits, and until I can do that, I'm stuck with this ghastly thing half installed and cutting grooves in the side of my door because of the screw sticking There is no value in this product and the price is way too high. Make sure you obtain your own screws if you purchase this product.

This is an outstanding product
5/5

It is easy to This is an easy-to-use tool. Security was a primary consideration in the design of this. This door comes with 3 inch screws that go through the door frame into the stud so that your door is truly secured. Besides being easy to install, it arrives with everything you need (screws, drill bit, instructions), and is convenient to use at any time. The routine to lock up happens every day, so I've just accepted it as a fact of life. There is only one thing that I can say could be improved, and that would be some of the corners and edges being These could have been filed down, and they ought to have been smoothed beforehand. I think it's just a small problem.
