Questions & Answers

Will it work with a third-party website that requires a fingerprint?

I haven't tried it yet, but I am confident that it will be successful. I like it for my computer because it eliminates the need for me to remember passwords. So that the fingerprint reader can reach the top of the desk, I used a short 18" usb extension cord. You may need a longer one or none at all for a laptop, depending on where it is mounted.

The monitor has been connected to the laptop. Will this unlock the laptop connected to the monitor if it is connected to the monitor?

This is a USB device, so it won't work unless your monitor also functions as a USB hub. br>I plug it into a usb hub that is clamped to my monitor. Some monitors come with a built-in USB hub. They'd be useful.

I like how it's marketed as a Windows 10 device, but the images show it next to a Macbook Pro. ?

It works flawlessly with Windows 10 (which I adore).

Are you having problems making it work? The solution is as follows: Change the policy in your neighborhood. Biometrics are turned off by default. It should be easy to find with a Google search. ?

This fingerprint reader does not always show up as a Biometric device in Windows Device Manager, according to Windows Update. Device Manager put it in the "Other Devices" category for me at first. This prevents Windows Update from automatically locating and installing the most up-to-date driver. I had to go to Windows Update, click "View Optional Updates," find the correct driver in the list, and manually start the download of "ELAN Finger Print – Biometric 7/7/2017 1. Windows Update did not flag or install "2111" from the list, and it was not flagged or installed automatically.

A contented client Normally, I wouldn't bother writing a review for an online purchase because I'm too lazy
5/5

There are some exceptions, such as when the product is well-known to be bad or exceptionally good. It's the latter in this case. br>br>I recently built a PC and wanted to buy a fingerprint scanner so that I could use Windows Hello. I ordered the "Benss Fingerprint Reader" and gave it a 10-day trial. It served no purpose other than to keep things running. To be more specific, it recognizes my already registered thumb for 60% of the times but rarely recognizes my index finger, which is, of course, also registered. Overall, this $25 purchase has left me unsatisfied. br>br>Then, almost on the spur of the moment, I bought this product, which is $17 and less expensive than the Benss. I came across it while browsing USB fingerprint scanners on Amazon last night (10/18/2019), which was about 10 days ago. It didn't seem like a well-thought-out strategy to me. Since there are only 5 ratings, it is a well-established competitor. I finally decided on it because its touch screen appears to be larger than most of its competitors', and I hoped that the larger screen would result in greater precision. It turned out to be correct. I just got it an hour ago at my front door and was eager to try it. I registered both my thumb and index finger and was repeatedly locked out. It worked as quickly as the fingerprint sensor on the MacBook Pro. I also tried unregistered fingers because other products have been reported to have a high rate of false positives, but it didn't have this problem. As a result, I am extremely happy with my purchase. I understand that I have only had a one-hour experience with the product, and I will update the review if anything negative occurs.

It eventually works, but you'll have to put in some effort to set it up
4/5

It's been a bit of a journey to get back to work. There was no way to connect the device. and-play, despite being identified as "other device ELAN:" in Win10 Pro Device Manager on a Lenovo P520c workstation. "Fingerprint Reader" is a device that does not require a driver. Device Manager failed to update the drivers as expected. Two driver packages (32 and 64 bits) were found via an online search, but neither of them worked. Finally, using Windows Update's "View optional updates," the ELAN driver was displayed and installed, and the device was added to Device Manager's Biometrics section. After that, there's the configuration- > Accounts- > Sign- It was possible to set up a scanner in the options. br>br>After signing in, use a fingerprint scanner to log in. a job well done Both required a few "try another angle" attempts after restarting. As a substitute for typing in a password, it does the job.

In Windows 10 with the most recent updates, it works fine for me
4/5

This fingerprint reader works for me on Windows 10 with Windows Hello and FIDO2 authentication on sites that support it (such as Facebook, Github, Twitter, and others). I'm working on a website like this, and my laptop doesn't have a fingerprint reader, so I bought this unit (mostly for testing, but I'll use it every day). day). br>br>Accuracy appears to be fine, and if it doesn't get it the first time, simply reposition and try again. It usually gets it on the first or second contact. br>br>One difficulty is that there are no instructions. Once you've plugged it in, you'll be able to hear it. There is no action. You hear a chime indicating that Windows has detected a new USB device, but no prompts appear, and no steps are taken to set up your fingerprints. I spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out what to do next after unplugging and replugging it. The device, in fact, does not require any additional setup or software. It's ready to use the moment you plug it in, but you must first register your prints in Windows Sign-In. in terms of alternatives br>br>Part of my perplexity stems from the fact that I already had the Windows Sign-In utility installed. It does not recognize the fingerprint reader until you close and open it again in options. As a result, here's what you should do: 1. br>br> In Windows 10, plug in the device and wait for the USB device chime to sound. br>2. br>3. Press the WIN key or click the Windows icon in the task bar. When you type "Windows Hello" or "Windows Sign In," the "Sign-In" menu item will appear. br>In the Options"br>4. To set up your prints, go to "Windows Hello Fingerprint. " br>br>If "This option is currently unavailable" appears under "Windows Hello Fingerprint," it means Windows has not yet detected the device. Close and reopen the dialog box, or move the device to another USB port.

Although it is difficult to install, I was able to do so in Windows 10
3/5

After spending over an hour trying to figure out how to get the little guy to work, I was going to return it. This is how I got it to work for me. The required driver was not automatically installed on my Windows 10 system. It is not possible to update the driver. So, what's the best way to make it work?
- Go to Windows Update and install the updates. There was a non-stop non-stop non-stop non-stop non-stop non-stop non-stop 'Additional Options' or 'Close' should be descripted.
- Select 'Additional Options' while the Fingerprint Scanner is plugged into a USB port to get more options than Microsoft provides by default. Choose 'ELAN Fingerprint' from the drop-down menu.
- Whoa, it works, and you can use it as a security option to recognize your fingerprints instead of typing in a longer, more secure password. br>br>Fingerprint recognition isn't perfect. In my case, maybe 70% recognition. I'm going to try training it again to see if I can improve the accuracy. One star is deducted. br>br>I'm not sure why the company doesn't kindly provide the helpful workaround when so many people have given it low ratings because it doesn't work. Or perhaps they couldn't figure out how to use it with the latest Windows updates. Or is it a problem with communication? I'm going to give it a one-star rating (I'm being generous).
