Without the internet, fignerprint / code will always work. If the battery dies, there is a backup 9V terminal on the bottom where a 9V battery can be inserted to temporarily power up the screen / fingerprint sensor.
The lock can be used even if the app isn't installed. Certain features, such as issuing access codes remotely, setting the duration of access codes, and disabling the auto-login feature, will not be available. Without an app, you can lock your door.
I never use the Bluetooth function for entry because the biometric fingerprint option works so well. If I'm in bed and want to lock my door, I can do so with the Bluetooth function. You must first unlock your phone and the app by pressing the unlock button. Around 70 feet away from my house, Bluetooth works. I haven't actually tested its range because I don't use the Bluetooth app very often.
I have two of them, and they both work fine on the property and in the same app. In the app, each lock will have its own ID and will be treated as a separate mechanism.

**FIRST UPDATE: August 2019*
Unfortunately, I had to return the lock for a refund. In the summer, the LCD screen simply does not work in direct sunlight. I contacted Lockly customer service, who informed me that this is a known problem with houses facing east and west, and that their engineers are working on a sun-blocking solution. Some kind of shield, but it may or may not appear soon. I accepted their offer of a complete refund. br>I'm giving them three stars because, aside from this issue, I think they have a great product, excellent customer service, and no bad feelings toward the company. It's a shame the lock didn't work out for me, but I'd still recommend Lockly to anyone who can install it somewhere where it won't get too much direct sunlight. br>In case anyone is interested, I replaced my Lockly lock with a Schlage Encode. Although it lacks a fingerprint sensor, it should suffice for my needs. br>I've also included a photo of how the screen appears during the summer day. br>**UPDATE August 2019*
I had to update my review because I discovered a major flaw with the lock. Because my house faces west, my front door receives a lot of natural light. Until the last two months (July and August), this was not a problem. The LED touchscreen is completely disabled in direct sunlight, according to my findings. It not only makes it difficult to read in direct sunlight, but it also causes the LED numbers to fade away and the screen to go blank. Because this only happened during the hottest summer months, I believe it's a combination of direct sunlight and high temperatures. The numbers gradually fade out of existence as the sun sets and it begins to cool outside, and the screen becomes usable once more. However, this occurs every day when the weather is hot and sunny. Fortunately, we only use the fingerprint reader to unlock the door, so it's not a major issue, but what if I need to give someone a temporary access code? If the screen isn't working, it's simply not an option. br>If your door does not receive a lot of direct sunlight, this may not be an issue for you, even in hot weather. However, if your home faces east or west, you should be aware that the screen will most likely not function during the summer. br>While I still stand by what I said in my original review, this issue will almost certainly force me to replace it with a lock with a physical keypad. The fingerprint reader is fantastic, but I also require access to the keypad. br>br>**Original Review*
I was hesitant to choose this lock over a Schlage or Kwikset simply because those brands are more well-known and established, while Lockly is a small San Francisco-based startup. But now that I've received and installed the Lockly Secure Plus deadbolt, I'm glad I went with Lockly. br>The construction quality is excellent. The exterior hardware is made of high-quality metal and has a solid, hefty feel to it. It has a smooth, sleek look and feel to it, and it appears to be high-end. Although the interior is made of plastic, it feels solid and long-lasting. br>It's not difficult to set up. I read some reviews that said it was difficult to install or that people had to hire a handyman, but I think most people can do it themselves if they read the installation manual. I spent about 15 minutes on it and had no problems. br>The lock is simple to program using the app. The app is well-designed and straightforward, and it performs admirably. The fingerprint reader is in a good position and works quickly and accurately. br>It is very intuitive. I really like having the fingerprint reader on there because it's so convenient and secure. Other than a Samsung smart lock that was much more expensive and received mixed reviews, I couldn't find another smart lock with that feature. I believe Lockly is ahead of the curve on this feature, and we'll begin to see Schlage and other large companies implement it in the coming years. br>Overall, I'm very impressed with Lockly as a company, and I'm looking forward to receiving my lock. It looks great, works perfectly, and protects my home. Anyone looking for advanced features in a well-designed lock should look no further than this lock.
Fingerprint reader is excellent. **** UPDATE 1/15/2022***
br>This lock is still in excellent working order! I'd also like to point out that because our door and lock aren't in direct sunlight, the keypad works properly. This lock is still one of our favorites. The battery lasts a long time, and the app will notify you when it runs out. After three years, the biometric scanner is still in perfect working order. The product has been used for 5 years and has been exposed to the elements. br>br> br>br>This is our first smart lock, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but we've been using it for over a month and love it! br>br>Because we didn't want to risk our home's security, we hired a professional locksmith to install ours. He described it as one of the nicest smart locks he'd seen, with a fingerprint reader that performed better than any he'd previously installed. He stated that he wanted to order this lock for his home and that he had photographed the box and model. br>br>For easier access, we programmed our index finger for the side fingerprint lock, which works flawlessly. If it's raining or your hand is wet, you can either dry the area and your finger thoroughly or use the always-working access code. I also appreciate the fact that there is a key option. br>br>The app is excellent. Please keep in mind that only one user can be the administrator when it comes to setting up and programming access. br>br>I noticed that some people were having trouble getting the lock to open when their phone was close by - We haven't set up our bluetooth to unlock automatically, so this isn't an issue for us. I've also seen people say you need to spend $70 on a separate smart hub. This, too, is incorrect. The smart hub is not available to us. To code our fingerprints, set access codes, monitor traffic, and lock/unlock, we simply used the app on our phone. Everything is controlled by the app. You'll need the wifi hub link if you want to program new access codes and/or unlock the door while you're away from home for an extended period of time. If you'd like to use it with Alexa or Google Home, you can do so. br>br>The only thing I'd like to see improved is the lock's ability to detect when the door is ajar and not try to lock until it is closed.
I put the lock in place - Except it opens the lock at night - which seemed to work fine. all on its own br>br>I received an eMail from the company stating that I had botched the installation.
OK - They did not, however, provide instructions on how to correct the problem. br>br>As a result, we had to remove the batteries - I guess I'll try to figure out how I messed up the 3-minute time limit. Installation takes a few minutes. br>I despise it when companies shift the blame for a poorly designed product to the customer who didn't follow instructions. Very frightening. br>br> I don't think anyone should use it.
However, during the day, the keypad became unresponsive. Update: I bought it on May 16th, I believe, and it's now November 2019. The fingerprint reader has worked flawlessly, but the screen has stopped working in direct sunlight. I'm not sure if the Sun simply heats it up to the point where it won't work, or if it's something else. Even when the door is open and the keypad is in the shade, the screen turns on during direct sunlight, but you can't see anything. I would have assumed that this would have been part of the product testing and that it SHOULD be able to be used in direct sunlight once the sun has gone down and it has cooled down; I would have assumed that this would have been part of the product testing and that it SHOULD be able to be used in direct sunlight once the sun has gone down and it has cooled down; I would have assumed that this would have been part of the product testing and that it SHOULD be able to be used in direct sunlight once the sun I've included pictures of the screen at two of the three times of day, but it's completely blank during the day. I contacted the seller and received no response, so I contacted Lockly directly and have yet to receive a response, though that was earlier today. This is fantastic! br>br> The fingerprint reader has worked flawlessly so far almost every time you've tried to use it, even in the rain, and who knows what the snow and cold will be like in a few months. There will be no more misplaced or broken keys due to children. I believe that for $250, the WIFI adapter should be included, but I intend to purchase one once my bank account has recovered!.
