Here are my preferences when it comes to an emergency radio I'm so sorry! Despite its well manufactured and useful construction, it can be problematic to use once you pull the battery out of the closet. There's no way a hand crank is going to be effective enough to charge an internal battery enough to charge a phone (I have tried draining the internal battery and cranking, but it never worked). So, if you keep the weather alert feature on, every Wednesday between 11 am and noon, you'll hear a loud siren and see strobe lights.

I made a big purchase on this one and I'm very happy with it! I think this is an ideal size for me. The buttons are spaced apart well, and they are large enough that they can be easily operated. The Flashlight is quite bright, even on low. While the blinking mode is a bit of a gimick, it is not subpar.
