Questions & Answers

Is it possible for this scanner to handle the curvature of middle/seam sections of bound books (for example, automatically straightening the image out at the curve)? Is this something to be concerned about?

The scanner X3 does not have flattening curve technology, so please consider our other scanner, the X7, which can automatically compensate for surface curvature.

Will the real-time camera allow students to share a zoomed-in screen?

Yes.

Is it suitable for Windows 10?

The software was not compatible with Windows 10 in my experience. I tried it on two different laptops, and the software was stuck in a loop, never getting to the main screen. I was excited to try this product, but I didn't get around to installing it until after the return policy window had closed, so I'm stuck with something I can't use.

Once the software is installed, will this work offline?

You don't need an internet connection to scan with the scanner, but you will need a computer to work with it. The scanning speed is extremely fast, and the clarity is excellent. The software is also very easy to use and has a lot of features.

This is ideal for use in a classroom setting
5/5

My current document camera is approximately nine years old and is beginning to show signs of wear and tear. When I first got it, it was top-of-the-line, but not in comparison to the features on this. It's as if it's from the 1800s. It's served me well, but I'll be in a new class next year and have decided to upgrade. Before writing a review, I had to put this device through its paces in two ways. It works perfectly in both cases! br>br>Here are a few cool features: br>Rubberized base on a metal frame. The brightness of the six LEDs can be adjusted with a touch sensitive button. The camera is mounted straight down at the end of the arm, with a 90-degree angle that can be adjusted. Please keep in mind that your computer will require TWO USB ports, so plan ahead. Also great is the software that comes with it! If you're used to older (or low-cost) devices, the camera image quality is remarkable. o cams). br>br>The mat you use is a LOT bigger than it appears in the pictures. That makes me extremely happy. Because of the photos, I was concerned that it wouldn't fit on standard letter-size paper, but I knew A3 was larger. It all came together nicely. The document placement lines are clear but not obtrusive, making it simple to lay out the pages for scanning. The material is similar to that of a standard mouse pad, and it does not slide around on my desk. One: br>br>Use One: br>br>Use One: br>br>Us The CamShop software allows you to record video from the device, but the preview image is too small to use as an overhead camera in a classroom. I discovered that Windows 10's built-in Camera app is ideal for the job. When combined with SmartInk (which comes standard with a SmartBoard), you've got a great solution for a document camera in the classroom. It appeals to me. br>br>The Camera app takes advantage of the full screen and allows you to take high-resolution photos (with HDR if desired) as well as record video with audio. This is ideal for in-home use. Class presentations AND sessions to be recorded and uploaded to YouTube for students who are unable to attend in person. It does exactly what I wanted it to do. It's very simple, and the Windows 10 Camera app does the trick. I'm sure there are other programs that will do the job, but this one is perfect for me and doesn't cost anything extra! br>br>Use No. 2: Document Scannerbr>This works great as a scanner. My expectations for image clarity were not met. The difference between 8MP and my previous document camera's 2MP is significant. It's mind-blowing to have a 5MP camera. Scanning and customizing images is a breeze with CamShop software. There are several different scan modes for different types of documents, and the edge detection works really well (especially when it's lined up properly on the mat). I downloaded the latest version from the iCODIS website; there are several different scan modes for different types of documents, and the edge detection works really well (especially when it's lined up properly on the mat). ) The ability to save in a variety of formats, including PDF with OCR text. There are no problems. br>br>In just a few minutes, you can scan an entire document packet and convert it to an editable/fillable PDF. For a summer packet, I scanned 27 individual pages and combined them into one PDF file; the "image" version was more than 50MB, but the OCR text version was only 2MB. Missing words or errors were not an issue. The ability to reduce page curl is one feature that is missing. If you're scanning from a physical book, this isn't the method to use. Don't get me wrong, it does a great job scanning from a book, but you have to make sure the page is as flat as possible first. br>br>I'm very happy with the device as a document scanner. It's a fantastic program. Final thoughts: br>br> br>In my classroom, I will use this on a daily basis. It far exceeds my expectations for the price. I came from a camera that cost over $600 ten years ago, and I'm blown away by the quality for less than $200. This is something I would strongly recommend to any teacher looking for a portable document camera. I'm blown away!.

Basic Document Scanner is a nice piece of software
4/5

What you pay for is what you will receive. This portable scanner is ideal for people on the go; it's easy to set up and has a lot of useful software. but. It's what I'd call a tool for beginners on a tight budget (or for people who want to try out these kinds of gadgets without spending too much money at first). Because I scan tabloid-size documents with a matte finish, it's extremely useful for me. The only issue I discovered was that the led lights were insufficiently powerful to illuminate color documents, let alone glossy documents, because the light reflected off the paper. To compensate for this issue, I purchased two engineer lamps with warm light bulbs that illuminate at angles. I used plexiglass to solve the reflection problem. The software, on the other hand, does exactly what it claims to do, but be aware that this is all. If you want something more sophisticated, Icodis high-end devices are the way to go(Translate: pricier). Scanning and completing complicated projects could be a lot easier. But, as I previously stated, it's a great tool for learning document digitization and getting a sense of what features you really need before deciding on your next scanning solution if you have the funds.

IF YOU HAVE A MAC, DO NOT BUY
3/5

There is no software available for Macs with this scanner. When I bought it, this was not mentioned in the description, and it is still hidden in the fine print today. It is a waste of time.

Not for photographs
3/5

This scanner's idea appeals to me. It's simple to operate, transport, and set up. The camera's ability to show you a preview in real time with adjustable lighting is nice, but it won't work for what I need. br>br>I tried it with an art book in order to touch up the art on my laptop, but the scans are grainy, dark, and of poor quality. The light helps for a while, but it then causes a lot of glare, not to mention trying to hold a book steady while it scans. I was disappointed because I purchased it specifically for this purpose, and at nearly $200, I wasn't expecting it to perform so poorly on images.

I couldn't get it to work for me
3/5

I attempted to install it on two different computers, both running Windows 10. One of the computers is less than a year old and meets all of the software's requirements. When I begin the installation process, the software simply loops indefinitely with no home screen appearing. I tried numerous times, but the software simply does not work for me, rendering the entire device useless. Unfortunately, I waited far too long before needing to use this device for work, so my return window is now closed.

The scan isn't very good
3/5

I attempted to scan some old black and white (sepia) photographs, but the machine only scanned about half of them (the top half). Not just half straight across, but about the top half, then pixelated in the middle, and nothing at the bottom. I tried several times in various lighting conditions and with various photos. All of them failed, which was disappointing because I had high hopes for this scanner. I'm on the lookout for a replacement.

It's not easy to transport! This is said to be very portable in the video
3/5

It's not the case. The document camera is top-heavy, with slots for sliding it into screw heads. As a result, you'll need to secure your desk(s) with screws or construct a foundation. It's a bummer because I'm in a mobile classroom and have to transport this. As a result, I'll need to purchase a large board and construct my own base. I can't speak to its quality just yet, but once I get this set up, I'll let you know. It could also have a fixed focus, which isn't ideal. I guess you get what you pay for, which explains why the ones at my place of business are so bad (I had high hopes). They don't even have their own software at work. Webcams, in essence). But now I'm thinking that making my own with a better webcam would be preferable.
