Questions & Answers

Is this a pair price, or are they sold separately?

The answers to these questions/answers are inconsistent because they appear under multiple items. Although the bookshelf speakers are sold in pairs, the floorstanding and center channel speakers are sold separately.

What is the size of tweeters, midranges, and subwoofers (in terms of diameter)? Are there any passive crossovers in these?

Dear Kim,br>In the speaker, there is a passive crossover. 5 1/4" Woofer, 3/4" Super tweeter, and 1" Tweeter Eric C., br>Eric C., br>Eric C.,

Without a subwoofer, how do you use bass?

The SSCS5 has good bass response for a bookshelf, down to about 50 Hz, but for best results, I recommend pairing it with a good subwoofer. In a 2, I employ the SSCS5. They're perfect for movies and music, and we have one in our master bedroom. The imaging and soundstage are incredible. If you don't want to mess with wiring rear speakers or don't have enough space, there's no need for a full surround setup. However, when these are combined with a good subwoofer, the impact you'll get from movies is significantly increased. A good subwoofer is essential if you listen to a lot of electronic music.

What are the backend inputs? I haven't been able to locate a photograph of the back of these items. ?

Hello, ahearn1. This unit does not have any input jacks; instead, it has speaker jacks that can be connected to a receiver/amplifier. Jerome

I'm not sure how that's possible
5/5

Now, I am neither a techie nor an audiophile, but I enjoy listening to music and can tell the difference between good and bad audio components, particularly speakers. I have a couple of very expensive home theater setups, both of which use power conditioners and Sony ES components, as well as ridiculously expensive interconnects and speaker wiring out to Polk LSi speakers and Polk subs. br>My desktop setup is very simple, consisting of a Fosi Audio DAC, a V2 50x50 amp, and a P1 tube pre-amp. Upgraded tubes in the amplifier Custom-made star quad RCA cables and 12ga twisted pair speaker wiring connect them all. I'm watching Hi-Def videos on my laptop. The Equalizer APO/PEACE software is used to record high-resolution audio over USB. It's a simple, low-cost setup with a great sound. br>I've been using my LSi7 bookshelf speakers ($800/pair) and a BIC F12 sub for a while now. Is this too much for a desktop setup? Yes, perhaps. Regardless, I saw these Sony 3 ways for $73/pair on sale. They've got a lot of positive feedback. I decided to give them a shot because I needed to get my LSi7s back into surround mode. I wasn't overly excited because I was expecting a sound downgrade. I didn't want to spend a lot of money because it's a desktop setup for listening at lower volume levels. So, here's something I'd like to share with you. My Polk LSi7 speakers sound worse than these little Sony SSCS5 speakers! With a larger soundstage and better separation, the sound becomes more detailed. I'm not sure how that's possible. For $73. For a pair of shoes, it'll set you back 00. Come on. I'm blown away by how fantastic these sound. The Rippingtons are playing on the radio right now. The album "Built to Last" Wow, you have my utmost admiration and awe. I suppose I'll have to do my critical listening from my computer now? I'm going to have to see a counselor.

Where have these been for the majority of my life? I paid $118 (including shipping) on Amazon last week for these
5/5

In that price range, how good could a set of speakers be? So, here's what I'm going to say. The word "amazing" comes to mind when I think of this situation. For nearly 40 years, I've been an "audiophile. " My purchasing strategy has always been to start with the best speakers available, which I couldn't possibly afford, and then work my way down to speakers that are within my budget but sound as close to my "dream" speakers as possible. Simply put, these speakers are well-made and reliable. made, with a sound that is both warm and precise. They can easily compete with speakers priced up to $500, or to put it another way, they can blow the doors off speakers priced in that range. I'd even go so far as to say that in a blind study (where you didn't know which speakers you were listening to in a side-by-side comparison), If you make a side-by-side comparison, you might find yourself preferring them to speakers in the $1000 range. Yes, that is correct! It was me who said it! It had to be said! I have no idea what Sony did with these little buggers, but they are incredible. One week later, the price has risen to $148, and this is true not just on Amazon, but everywhere. I'm not sure what caused the price to jump $30 in one day, but are they still worth it? I'd pay twice as much after hearing them. Oh, and by the way, they're the main speakers in a two-person show I'm putting together. Not as surrounds, but rather as a channel scenario They haven't even "broken in" yet, and I'm blown away. If you're looking for a great bookshelf, look no further. You've come to the right place if you're looking for medium-sized speakers. Don't be fooled by the low cost; you've discovered them. Thank you, gentlemen!.

If you have to read, do so, but only if you have faith in the author
5/5

To begin, I'd like to state that I have a lot of experience with speakers of all kinds and a lot of knowledge about speakers and how they work. And most speakers, even those costing $300, have a few common flaws that turn me off as a listener, which these speakers have done an excellent job of avoiding. br>br>Typically, speakers under $500 have the following flaws:br>Tweeters don't work well with the cabinet's loudspeaker and sound like another miss-match. On top of your much better mid/low range speakers, you can place a matched speaker. br>Tweeters are obnoxious and have a "washey" or metallic tone to them. When the dust protection panel is on, sound quality suffers noticeably, particularly at high frequencies. br>The bass is powerful, but the tone isn't quite right. br>The bass isn't great, but there's a lot of it. br>The bass has good tone, but it leans too heavily on the use of a subwoofer or passive resonance speakers, resulting in lower-quality lows and mids.
3- way crossover makes it difficult for your amplifier to get a good read, resulting in low volumebr>Audio suffers greatly when not placed in the absolute best position, which limits placement or quality. br>br>That's a lot of common issues, and I expected to hear at least one of them, despite the positive reviews and extensive research. br>However, I can happily say that I am blown away by how well these speakers handle all of these issues, whether up close or far away, with or without a sub, properly or incorrectly placed, used with other speakers or alone. Monsters annihilate all of these problems while sounding fantastic in the process. br>br>When it comes to audio, I'm extremely picky, and I'd have to be willing to spend at least $600 on anything to consider an upgrade worthwhile. br>br>I've got these hooked up to an Integra Pre- In a large room (approximately 35x30ft), we're using a Crown 1000 amplifier to power them. Off the bat, I believe that 6 Ohms is ideal for this size speaker in a home theater, particularly for fronts, but these go above and beyond just making a few good choices. All of the good design choices were evident in these. So, if your amplifier can handle 6 Ohms, these are a great choice. br>br>I'd also like to point out that the volume and atmospheric resonance of these speakers are comparable to 8 Ohm 350 watt speakers, so 100 watts is a figure that my power bill can live with. I'll be using these for music at house parties, movies, and gaming, and so far I haven't been disappointed. br>br>These barely break a sweat producing loud, high quality, detailed sound, and for once I'm not worried about heavy excursion ripping them apart. br>br>I'll be using these for music at house parties, movies, and gaming, and so far I haven't been disappointed. br>br>I wouldn't use these as side speakers because they're a little TOO in your face. Side and rear are, in my opinion, two completely different games. However, you could order six of these and use them as front, surround, and rear surround speakers. All you'd have to do now is calibrate and equalize their volumes correctly. br>br>Overall, I'm proud to own these and even prouder to tell people how much I paid for them. These are fantastic in general, not just because of how much they cost. There's not much you can do unless you want to spend a lot of money. There is no discernible difference between these and other very high-end speakers, and I personally recommend them if your setup calls for bookshelf-sized speakers. br>br>Final Score: br>8. If we ignore price and consider 10 to be the best sound possible, we'll get a 5/10 for audio quality.
9. If I take price into account and give in to my bass-obsessed nature, I'd give it a 7/10. Head type personality (secretly wishing for subwoofer-level bass on these).
10/10 for any one who isn't the most picky SOB in the world and just wants what 98% of the world would consider to be perfect audio.
(ps: When I say these speakers have excellent bass, I'm referring to the tone and power that you'd expect from a Home Theater speaker. You'll never get subwoofer-level bass from a front channel speaker unless you spend a lot of money on those massive cabinet speakers you see in movie theaters. You're not supposed to, and there's a reason for that. To hear subs, you don't need a sub. With these, you can get a lot of different frequencies because they're so good at handling bass. Please don't mistake this for a woofer replacement. The term "sub-" refers to them. "Woofers" are named after the fact that they push air so hard that you can feel it. That's not bass; it's a computer-generated effect. )br>br>UPDATE: br>It's been two years and things are still going well. Of course, I know a lot about how to set up speakers and get the most out of them, but everyone who hears how good this system sounds is blown away. After hearing how good it sounds, almost everyone is encouraged to get their own set up. These are an excellent match for my center speaker and other speakers. It doesn't seem to matter what speakers I use with these; they just work. I've experimented with a few different setups and have been putting them through their paces on a weekly basis. It appears that no matter what I throw at them, they always work. I also have a room that attracts a lot of dust. I'm happy to report that these don't collect dust and that I've never had to clean them. All of the essentials are present: dependability, functionality, audio balance, and build quality. I wish I could give these speakers more stars because I don't think people realize how uncommon a speaker like this in this price range is. I'm not a big fan of Sony, but kudos to the Japanese engineers who came up with this - You guys are deserving of an increase in pay.

OUTSTANDING
5/5

Allow me to be succinct and to the point. Currently, I am the proud owner of a veritable Adcom GFA- GFP-5802 amp 750 pre- Sony's new HAP-100 amplifier is a great example of this. Teac TN- 1Zes, Teac TN- 1Zes, Teac TN- 1Zes, Teac Thiel CS2 is fed by a 400-turntable system. Three speakers and a SVS subwoofer are included in the package. Definitive Technology speakers, NAD speakers, and Rotel speakers are among the speakers I've owned. I'm putting together a college graduation present for my music-loving son. I wanted the best I could afford for my loving son, so I spent around $2k on everything. I was skeptical of the Sony SSCS3 speakers and am now waiting for a pair of Definitive Technology M65 speakers to arrive. Those are not going to be opened. They're returning to their previous location. At $159 a piece, these Sony towers are incredible. Do not walk, but rather run. In three years, I guarantee you won't be able to get these for this price. I'm playing them alongside my Thiels, and I'm a little irritated by how good they are.
