Questions & Answers

Having a reasonable monitoring cost is important. How much does monitoring of devices actually cost per device, and how do I find the best companies in this regard?

According to an email I received recently- Hopefully, SPOT Trace's satellite technology and technology of proven reliability has helped you to stay on top of your assets which are located beyond cellular coverage reach and provided you with some extra We will be making changes to the cost of your SPOT service plan(s) in the near future as we continue to upgrade our network to provide the best possible and most reliable service in the industry There will be a fee increase of $199 for Trace Basic service plans. The renewal rate will be set at the new rate which is $495 per year per device. As a result, you will be billed at that rate at renewal time. It will cost $49 to track Extreme with Trace. We encourage you to reach out to Customer Relations if you have any questions concerning the changes The number 651.

Can it hold its charge for an extended period of time?

I set my device to ping every 30 minutes, so it keeps a charge for about 5 months with energiser lithiums. Apparently, some guys will have theirs ping every five minutes. However, that is an extremely bad idea because the more often any tracker talks to a satellite the easier it is to find with a cheap bug detection device, which can be bought just about anywhere for a few bucks. Though batteries can last for years, I recommend that you change the batteries every 2 months, because your asset could go missing for a while and you don't want the battery to die when that happens.

Is it possible to connect a satellite connection if my stolen goods are stored in an apartment building or at a home?

Since this device is over a year old, I've had it for a long while. My motorcycle had hundreds of trackings due to the fact that I kept it there. You will see the location is within 100ft of the location when you open the app The tracker is about 500 feet away from its location. If there's a lot of people in a high density population area, such as within apartment buildings, then the structures are likely to contain This app fails to show a vertical pin point, so you won't be able to see where it is on the floor. Essentially, the only thing you would have to do is to narrow down your search to what building your belongings are In any case, you will know when the item is on its way. Which, in my opinion, is the best method to find everything you need.

Do I have to remove this from my yeti cooler or is it ?

I highly doubt it. The result would be that it would be destroyed. My motorcycle is under the seat, but I keep it there. There was even a time when it was stolen. My laptop was recovered after I tracked it on the internet and told the police about its location. It was about 900 feet away in the end. pushed it down a canal by checking neutral and pushing it forward. Such an action would not be trusted by me.

Getting the service cancelled is difficult
3/5

The prices keep going up. Since I bought this Spot unit two years ago, I have been using it. It seems that this unit notifies me every time it rains that it has moved. Despite being in a dry and secure place, the Spot often gets confused due to the weather. Initially, each year of service cost $99, and additional years cost As of the second year, Spot automatically renewed my service without contacting The new year of service was billed at $164 using an expired credit card. The kicker was that they were able to somehow charge an expiring credit card I had on file. Users receive an email letting them know $24 will be added to their account. I would have to pay almost $200 annually for one Spot subscription, since the network fee would apply to all accounts. After I logged on to cancel my service before it auto-renewed, I saw an option to do so In the middle of my third year, I received the bill for cancellation and I discovered I had to call them. My discomfort at being forced to call for service changes that can easily be made online, coupled with the price increases, has led me to inform others that they should steer clear of this device and service until it is more up front and consistent with.

The meth lab we took out was destroyed The company raised prices because it was greedy
3/5

Our construction site had been robbed several times. I ordered a couple of these but they didn't arrive in time for the most recent break-in. It seemed like it, at least to me. Last night, we were hit once more. It had been a quiet month before that. It was originally a $15,000 tractor and a $2100 tiller attachment, a cement mixer, and other tools that were taken. I often wish I had tried to put a tracker on those, but I didn't believe people stole tractors (we figure they winched it on to Thus, I recently bought a replacement tiller, just an 18 inch walk behind one, and I still have to get my insurance policy for my large equipment. It was of course tampered with with Spot Trace. The cyclone has been up there less than a week, and we have been A few days later, he received a call from the police saying that someone broke into his office trailer. He was upset because they had taken lots of tools, our security cameras, a DVR, office supplies, and other non-valuable items. They have stolen my tiller as well, so I am not bummed, I am I check the app on my phone and cannot see what I am looking for, the screen is too small, so I go to my computer and visit the website, and see that they had moved my tiller first at 909 a. m. After getting to the office at 16 pm, I wasted 3 hours wasting time, then went home just when they pried open the trailer that was when they broke in. It was probably a five-mile trip It takes them 7 miles to get to their house on a dead end As SpotTrace did not give me the address, I cut and pasted the address from an online tax map I used often, and I called the police to let them know the location. From the time the thieves were informed it was stolen to the time the thieves' address was found, it took just 5 minutes. In the end the police were called, and they needed the detective. So it took some time. I think the detective's plan was to approach the police and propose asking that they search, and if they denied his request they wait for the search I had a bit of trouble solving the case - a pickup truck that was still loaded with stuff was parked outside while an armed convicted felon was unloading it another thief took off on a motorcycle and got away. It was found that the one by the truck was apprehended, that the truck itself was stolen from some third party, and that inside the house was a meth lab. Additionally, one more man came by to make a meth ingredient delivery while the police were there and was arrested, Perhaps they are actually staking out the area tonight in the hope of catching We got my tiller back, and everything else that was stolen, but we still don't have the stuff that was stolen They probably got rid of the stuff somewhere since, sold it or disposed of it, but I think it was the same people. While it's not cheap at $100 plus $100 a year for monitoring, Moore's law should provide a discount over time, so it should get cheaper over time but it is a great policy. That's not great math there, however, if that had been the case on my $15,000 tractor, well, it's just as it should be. In my opinion, $200 is totally worth it to put some scumbags behind bars (and when you combine the thefts, the firearms, and the meth, he won't be able to get out anytime soon). There is no doubt that TrackR or Tile or some other much cheaper solutions would have worked much better with this. A person with the mobile app on their phone must walk by your lost piece while it is active in order for the system to work. Unlike other GPS trackers I have seen, this one has GPS capability wherever the device picks up a cell signal, and the battery life is excellent too. Keep a list of the serial numbers, brands, models, and the brands and models of your equipment so that if it gets stolen, you can provide this information to the police. Check out these GPS trackers for important items as well. A good way to track teenagers as well. The brackets come with adhesive and screws to mount them, as well as some adhesive. It's preferable to just tuck it loose into something if at all possible, for instance inside the seat bottom of a vehicle, or into a dummy water bottle on a bike. I doubt that Moore's law will apply anymore. Almost without telling anyone (there was a supposedly email), Spot doubled subscribers' subscription fees and came up with a plan that automatically renewed people. As of this year, they want $180 for the same service I paid $109 for the first year. In theory, technology should decrease in price. Technology does work, but I cannot recommend a company that would act this way. I would not even recommend it, minus 4 stars for poor customer service. Should I expect to pay $300 per device by the end of the.

Here's the warning
3/5

This tactic is known as bait IF YOU WANT TO BUY THIS, DO NOT. Just after 11 months, I found that the monthly rate was $164! I paid $100 for the spot trace and $100 for the first year of service only to find that the monthly rate had increased The app in the app store, as well as the reviews, agree that this is a pretty terrible app at best. To be honest, I would consider that an astronomical jump if it were a perfect device, but since it's not, I can't justify it. They are terrible, I can tell you that. Even with Energizer Lithium batteries, the tracker drains batteries like no other (even with the aforementioned tracker). There is no way I can get those five minutes every 5 minutes, as they claim I do. The procedure for changing the batteries is also cumbersome because you need a glasses-size screwdriver and keep the 4 microscopic black screws that hold the back in place on your fingers. The new price of their service makes you think of other alternatives, especially when you add in the cost of their service. Thank you spot for nothing.

Over the past few years, operating costs have increased
3/5

As of 5/1/17, Spot instituted a $14 "Network Maintenance Fee" in addition to the service plan costs. This page has been viewed 99 times. It was exactly one year later, on 5/1/18, that the fee was increased A similar option or upgrade is not available. This Network Maintenance Fee must be paid if you wish your $100 Spot to continue to work. The Spot website also shows that the annual fee for the basic service is Although it states the mandatory Network Maintenance Fee (that I could locate), nothing is mentioned regarding that fee. SPOT is always working on improving its network to provide our customers with the best possible service" Since I began using Spot in 2015, I have not noticed any changes in my service.
