Because they work so well, I have 3 of the SSK enclosures, two of the NVME enclosures (including this one) and one with just a USB 3 interface. Gen 1 appears on page My favorite is the Gen 1 model, which is even faster than my other USB 3 drives I previously owned. Since they all work well, I'm amazed that all of them meet the advertised speeds. I use them with my USB-gen 1 machines and they allow me to transfer data faster since they are designed to work with newer machines, but they also work with my older USB gen 1 machines. I'm extremely satisfied with this drive. The only negative aspect I found in this model was the thermal tape that came with it. I'm not sure if that was a permanent change, but it hasn't interrupted the operation of the drive at all.

would actually recommend this useful device to anyone. I put a 2 TB NVMe drive in it, which I use as my Steam main directory, so that I have one hard drive I can switch between my three computers, saving me a lot of space, cables, In this case you will need to use a real USB C port, although you will be able to experience decent speeds. The RAM on the motherboard is not near to the NVME on the motherboard, but is more than adequate. I had to work harder to install the drive in the unit but I found the reduced size to be awesome for portability.

I would like to address the concern about a slow USB port mentioned in a few reviews. Quite a few people do not realize that just because a port is a USB C, it does not necessarily mean it is fast. If you are planning on using anything up to three times the speed of Thunderbolt, you MUST have a port that supports it. Generation 2 speeds are faster than gen1. A drive can be as fast as the fastest port in the world, but it can only move data as fast as the port can handle. Additionally, people complain that it is too hot when they are using the device constantly. We do not recommend using these setups on a constant basis. It is for this reason you should purchase a dedicated SSD for your motherboard, or an external hard drive with heat fins built to withstand long-term Unlike heavy duty cases, these are ideal for backups and light use. Despite the case being solid and having thermal pads (they didn't use to be bundled with it, but they do now, AND instructions are in English on the back), it feels cheap. For ordinary use, it's totally fine, but I am hitting it with HOURS of intensive reads and writes, and it gets very hot during that period. In my humble opinion, the Orico brand with aluminum finned body design is the best one. In addition to thermal tape, it comes with it!.

The work is great, and the speed is great. My only problem was the squeaking when removing it from the case. It scraped against the interior and caused the case to squeak. This does not effect the functionality in any way. The deal for the price was good overall.

It has USB3 capability and is extremely fast. A problem with the locking mechanism may be present at the bottom of the SSK In its proper and incorrect states which I attribute to a faulty locking mechanism In its rightly locked state, the metal cover on both sides of the enclosure will be flush with the inner sleeve containing the M2. I have two SSK for this purpose. Due to the fact that the ends of the cable are not flush, you should be careful when removing the cable, as the inner sleeve may be pulled out. The doors are nonlocking and have a locking mechanism as well. well and both are fast enough to run an extra version of Mac OS or even a different OS. A great inexpensive product. OWC charges $ 99 for the enclosure for the SSD they sell on this page after selling you an expensive Mac only M 2. This is if you would like to use the original SSD externally for an additional $99.
