With this laptop's NVMe to USB adapter, it won't recognize the actual SSD's brand, so the Samsung SSD you bought cannot be used with the Samsung disk cloning software.

Questions & Answers

I have vertical port layouts for all my USB devices. In the event of the thermal pad turning sideways, does it remain attached to the adapter?

Since you will have a m on your thermal pad, it will not fall off. The top was screwed with 2 screws as well

How do you know if it is compatible with (wd) pcie nvme gen3 x2?

The right thing to do would be to do so.

Do you know if this will work with the WD Blue SN500?

As far as I know, it works with all current versions of the tool. The drives have NVMe technology.

Can this be done with an SSD from a Microsoft Surface Pro ?

In order to determine what type of SSD is inside the surface, you will have to inspect it. It is possible to configure the device in several ways.

In fact, it does work with Samsung Data Migration software and the Samsung EVO Plus 970
5/5

It was a single M I was upgrading. I have an old Kingston M nvme SSD that has two slots. We're updating our Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB to the model 2 of the new model. After that, I opened Samsung Data Migration as a backup just in case it did work. As it turns out, it showed the USB drive (see pic), so I proceeded to transfer using Data Migration, and everything went smoothly! I've been running with the 1TB drive for a few weeks now, with no problems. I'm really happy with the new drive. Although I have not yet tried using this adapter with the old SSD, I am sure it will work. However, I did not purchase this item for that purpose. You might need to migrate to a Samsung M if you're in need of it. I like the fact that there are two NVMe SSDs!.

You should watch out for overheating of an uninitialized NVME drive
4/5

The adapter worked well and was easy to use. As I thought I would use the adapter to clone a disc from one drive to another (internal drive to external drive), I attached a Crucial 1TB nvme drive to the USB port first. As I was reading online about the next step and downloading cloning software from Crucial, I thought that I needed to swap the drives before I ran the cloning process. I then used the USB eject command in preparation for physically disconnecting the drive from the USB port. However, when I removed the drive physically from the USB port, the drive was extremely hot, to the point where the flat thin top plate of the drive cracked To avoid potential overheating of the old SSD drive (which was installed in this adapter during the boot and cloning step), I placed a small baggie filled with ice on top of the drive to act It was not necessary to do that, but I did not want to risk damaging the SSD disk. By best guess, an uninitialized 1TB hard drive mounted on this (or any other) USB adapter gets stuck in some high-speed port. Due to the power consumption loop, the uninitialized drive did not show up on the device list or as anything else on the desktop, so I wasn't performing any activity directly that would It should be noted that I did not install the heat sink pad on the adapter, which might have helped if only marginally. The air gap between the mounted SSD and the heat sink pad was still there.

It is effective at what it does
5/5

Most of the time, I use it for NVMe SSD clonings. Acronis running in a VM on my server for cloning is very handy, and the ability to plug in and out NVMe SSDs without rebooting makes that much easier. When I used this adapter for different scenarios, I got the following results When using NVMe through a USB port, the performance is going to suffer clearly. Due to the fact that the device is USB 3, however, that might be an issue. However, even with the speed setting set to 0, it gave me very good performance for cloning and even running Windows. In the blue LED, there is a lot of use. I can easily tell times when the cloning is finished (the light stops blinking) when it is online, it is solid, and when it is active, it is blinking.

This is a great It was necessary for me to connect a second nvme pcie drive to my system and I was only able to find a pcie card as an alternative solution
5/5

It is impossible for me to switch out pci cards because I don't have any extra slots. As long as the nvme drive is not required to be recognized as an internal drive in the system (basically a permanent device that is permanently connected to the motherboard), then this device will function perfectly. This is a very easy program Simply put, they are plugs with ports attached to them. Besides the screw, there is no other problematic aspect, but that is related to the type of drive, not to There isn't even much of a problem as long as you have a small philips screwdriver. It would be wise to have a good magnet to make sure the screw does not get lost. I very much like the led on the drive that indicates the drive is receiving power and blinks when it is being read or written Originally, I was worried about static discharge because it's not in a case, but I actually tested it with an esd, and it still works there. In fact, it has actually been nice not to have to move the case around. In general, the adapter itself is not affected, but the NVME drive may become very warm during use. It doesn't cause any problems, as USB cannot match NVME speeds, but in a situation where you have to move around drives, you might find it annoying to have to remove the heatsink and put it back on. In any case, keeping the drive at the intended distance from the adapter is probably the best way to keep it from getting bent, so doing it this way is probably better. There was just a slight inconvenience using a heatsink with this adapter since it has a sealed heat sink. My overall opinion of this device is that it works perfectly and I absolutely love it. You should definitely check it out.

NVME drive cloning adapter that is almost perfect
5/5

In a laptop with only one slot, I purchased this drive so that I can clone my smaller NVME drive to a larger one (Samsung 970 EVO). I agree that the Samsung data migration tool is unavailable since the device does not show as a Samsung through the USB adapter, as several other users have said. I used a different partition manager instead. Except for that, I had no problems with it.
