Questions & Answers

Do you require a controller that includes a built-in aux output?

It's not a big deal. I already had one with an aux input. My friend claims that the amp, which costs an extra $200, is required for the system to function properly. I told him that keeping the headset if it won't work properly without the amp was pointless. br>How can you expect an amazing headset to function as it was intended if it is only wired to a controller, he asked. I told him I wasn't looking to spend a lot of money because I only play on consoles. He uses both a computer and a console to play his games. My friend claimed that the lack of an amp was the source of my problems. I don't want to spend a lot of money on a headset alone. I used to have turtle beaches that worked and functioned a lot better than these astros did. I would never buy a headset from this company again because I would not recommend buying a half-built product from a company that knows you will need an additional component to make it work. Ps. My friend also has the amp and has been having problems with it. He claimed that the problem was with the cabling and that he needed to replace it.

What makes you think this is better than the A50s?

Because the A40s are wired, they will always produce better sound than the A50s. Wireless technology is always limited in terms of frequency range. The sound quality of wired audio will always be superior to that of wireless audio. If sound quality is important to you, the A40s are the way to go. If you want convenience, the A50 is the way to go.

Is it necessary to update the headset before using it, and if so, can you simply plug it in and play?

There is no need for an update. Plug and play is a given. Just keep in mind that your T's volume. It will reach its maximum height. If you're using a PC, Dolby can help you get the most out of your experience.

Is it possible to use only the headphones with an external mic?

Greetings, Serjio. You can mute the headset mic from the 2. With the headset, you get a 0m A40 Inline Mute Cable.

A total flop
3/5

Why didn't you use a volume control on the "mic to controller" cable instead of a mute toggle? I was completely unaware of this, and in order to change my volume, I had to go into the Xbox's settings and adjust the chat and game volume. They want us to purchase a microphone amplifier, I understand. Another annoyance is that the headphone jack is located on the same side as the microphone, on the back of the left ear, and the wire rubs against my neck constantly. This is unacceptably poor quality for a $150 headset. My audio quality is on par with my $40 turtle beaches, and I have an echo problem where my friends' voices echo back to me. Really disappointed; I'll have to pay the same amount for Dolby(monthly subscription) audio as I did for Microsoft audio. Please do not waste your money on this; I am extremely disappointed with my purchase.

It's a bit on the pricey side, but it does the job well
5/5

I've had a pair of a40s for a few years (my first pair died after about 2 years of heavy use, and the mic just stopped working). This is the second time I'll be wearing these shoes. Because of the surround sound and clarity of sound, they are ideal for Call of Duty games. If you don't mind paying $100 for them, I'd recommend them. br>br>As a side note, the first time I bought a pair of these, I also purchased the Mixamp, which I do not believe is necessary. In fact, I never could figure out what the point of the mixamp was because it produced the same sound quality and volume level for me whether I plugged it in directly through the controller without the mixamp or through an optical cable and mixamp, so I don't think you really need one. Someone else may have a different perspective on this, so you should do more research, but that's my take on the mixamp.

Don't be swayed by the negative feedback! This is an excellent headset! This is a phenomenal headset
5/5

The sound is clear, with well-balanced highs and lows. It is also extremely comfortable to use for extended periods of time. You can replace the ear muffs with new ones if you want to change things up. You can also change the mic's position to the left or right side, as well as the headband and earmuff tags, to make the headset your own! This headset is MADE TO LAST, so if the mic breaks, the ear muffs are damaged, or the cord is cut, you can go to Astros' website and order brand new replacement parts to get your headset back in working order! If you're looking for something in the middle, this is the place to go. If you're looking for a reasonably priced headset, this one is a great choice!.

Even better than the a40 tr from 2017
4/5

The A40 model is absolutely stunning. The 2017 model was a little big, but the adjusters held up well, so it wasn't a big deal. These are even more durable and perfect for your needs. The only issue I have with these is that the inline mute cable, unlike the previous generation, does not include a volume slider. br>br>Tried the new gen 4 A50's before this, the surround sound feature creates a good echo or metallic echo of your voice, and the normal sound mode sounds exactly like the A40's without the extra $150! br>br>The Dolby digital activation code for the 2019 a40's is valid for two years. I'm not sure I'll be able to tell the difference because it sounds great even without it. In some ways, the volume in the earpiece sounds more "full," but I suppose that's to be expected given that it's supposed to be surround sound with Dolby digital enabled via Xbox settings. br>br>Overall, 4 out of 5 stars; however, it would be perfect if the inline cable had a volume slider; it's a shame it doesn't. br>br>Creative+ paraphrase: br>As a result, once you get back to town and use them more, the top band cushion might be a little bit wider from front to back. Most of the time, it's not noticeable, but some days my scalp is more sensitive than others, and when it is, it feels like the cushion is narrowing and pressing against my head. Still, 4 out of 5 stars because it can be fixed with a simple adjustment.

It's good, but it's not worth $149
3/5

"What the pros use," according to many online reviews. It's something I seriously doubt. What E- For accurate positional awareness and footstep detection, sports teams use headsets that sound very flat, with raised treble and no bass. Look up a photo of a race car's interior on the internet. Take a look inside your vehicle now. Do you want to pick up the kids in a race car with 50 buttons on the steering wheel and a roll cage, or do you want to go through a Starbucks? It's not what the "Pros" use, but it is what they use. My point is that a headset can help you improve your performance in games like Call of Duty, but this isn't one of them. These have a pleasant mid/bass sound to them that I find "good. " This isn't ideal. I have a total of five other headsets that sound better than these. However, good sound is subjective; I prefer a slightly raised treble, warm mids, and clean bass. It's similar to going to the movies. These may seem terrifying or fantastic to you. But, believe me when I say that these are not worth your money. I know that everyone on YouTube claims they have the best sound, but they don't. I have a pair of $80 Beyerdynamic headphones that sound very similar. There is no volume control included in the $149 price tag. On the cable, there is only a mute. You can buy a new cable with inline volume, but you'll lose the ability to mute it. WTF? The cable is a four-ring proprietary cable designed specifically for this headset. Why? New plastic plates for the ears and the top of the headband can also be purchased. There's a lot of it. It makes them flimsy, and I'm concerned about their durability. They're comfortable and light, but they're a little dorky in my opinion. The mic sounds good, and there's a small amount of mic monitoring that most headsets lack. So unless you just want to say you have some Astro's, go ahead and buy them. Look elsewhere if you want a good headset for less money that has great sound, volume, and mute options. These, in my opinion, are designed solely to sell accessories.

Poor distribution of a great product
4/5

Only giving it four stars because Amazon didn't bother to put it in a box, so anyone who sees it outside your house can see it's a $150 Xbox Astro a40 headset.
