If you want to connect a VGA port on your laptop to an HDMI only monitor, you'll need a VGA to HDMI Converter. This was something I discovered on my own. This can only be used to connect an HDMI port to a VGA monitor (who would do that?).
You can choose between the two options. It is determined by the monitor you are using. Some monitors have both ports, while others only have one. br>However, you do not have to link the two.
I have no issues using these with my Mac Book Pro.
Yes, it is possible that it will be time consuming. After you've made the connection, you'll need to adjust your computer's display settings.

This was purchased to connect a laptop to a second display. It uses the laptop's HDMI output port to connect to an older monitor with a VGA port. Keep in mind: HDMI is a digital signal, whereas VGA is an analog signal. The digital output can be connected to the analog output, but not the other way around.
The first thing to notice is that it does not produce sound. It's not a flaw in the product; vga does not transmit sound, so keep that in mind before you buy. The video quality of this product is quite good. Now I can connect my VGA monitor to my Raspberry Pi and use it to play video games. It can also be used to connect to computers that I'm attempting to repair or to format older monitors. The cable is quite sturdy in its own right. It's difficult to bend, which is great, but it's even more difficult to straighten. The VGA end is a little larger than a standard VGA port, which is to be expected. It does come with screws to make connecting it to your vga port a little easier. Because the weight tends to cause it to push down and disconnect, I would recommend using this. The HDMI part is your standard size HDMI port; however, this is ONLY HDMI to VGA, so you can use it to connect your VGA monitors or screens to HDMI products. It is not possible to switch from VGA to HDMI. It's also not the best product for connecting gaming consoles to VGA monitors because no sound will be transmitted. That said, if you're just trying to make some repairs or simply want to connect a secondary (or primary) monitor to your computer or laptop, this will suffice; the 6 feet gives you plenty of room to work with, and you can easily cable manage it with some zip ties. To my knowledge, the cable does not have any video issues. Overall, this is a good cable for reviving your old monitors so you can use them for other purposes if needed, such as computer repair. It can handle the resolution of my monitor, but everything will vary based on the monitor and device.
br>br>Video quality is far superior to what I expected for analog, and I can't tell the difference as long as both ends are in good working order. There are a few jittery pixels in the top few rows, but that's it. If you own a VGA monitor, this is a must-have.
If you're trying to mirror your computer screen to a projector or TV, make sure the display settings on your computer DUPLICATE. Our issue was that an older computer with a VGA port but no DUPLICATE option would not send a signal to the projector through any port, whereas newer computers usually have an HDMI port but the projector still requires VGA input. When we connected a newer computer with an HDMI port to the projector's VGA port, the problem was thankfully resolved.
This isn't the cable for you if you're looking for coaxial. Similarly, if you're looking for cat6, you'll find it here. Continue your search. There's no way this can be mistaken for an extension cord because it lacks the three prongs at the end. The end is mostly flat, with a slot in the center. It almost resembles a D shape when viewed straight on from the end. Depending on how the light hits it, the small pieces of metal inside have a gold or silver color. I estimated it to be about 6 feet long, but I didn't measure it. When I plugged it in between the blue ray player and the television, it appeared to work similarly to an HDMI cable, transmitting both sound and video. That was a good thing. I bought it for that reason. So, to summarize. It is a functional HDMI cable that is superior to what you currently have; otherwise, you would not be reading this review. Shalom.
So that I could work with a second screen, I needed to connect my newer laptop (HDMI) to my older monitor (VGA). That is exactly what this did. I'm glad I was able to choose the best option. Another reviewer confirmed that I was choosing the correct one by describing the same thing I did. I know it seems obvious, but I read a lot of reviews on similar products that said they didn't do what they were supposed to do.
I have this cable running from a DVD player to an old Samsung syncmaster 17in (the one with the tv tuner), and it will occasionally work, but it's as if the signal cuts out or the monitor doesn't like it. So, while the cable allows for adaptation, something isn't quite right.
I look down and see that the sheath holding the pins isn't snug against the plug, and there's a piece of metal sticking out. I try to unplug the cable, and it all comes apart; I had to use tweezers to get the piece out of the hole.
