Questions & Answers

It has been noted that this flash drive gets very hot quickly in some reviews. Does this item include an updated version which addresses that problem?

It is not uncommon for USB flash drives to transfer heat from your computer. There's just nothing more efficient than a nice metal flash drive for this task. Using plastic versions simply conceals the fact that the inside of the printer can get quite hot, via thermal transfer from the PC main board. This can be good or bad depending on your viewpoint. The keyboard is hot inside, so if you cannot touch it, it is not working.

Is there a cover (cap) included with this drive?

It has no cap - there is no moving part, nothing slides in or out, and there is no cap. It just plugs straight into the USB port without any special settings or configurations.

Can you tell me what the writing speed is? It would be interesting to run other operating systems such as remix OS and Linux distros on USB. Would it be possible to have at least 20 MBS of writing speed?

A 128 GB model and a 16 GB model are both in my collection. A number of computers were tested by both parties. It was very tedious to try all the Windows file systems - it didn't really make any difference. For larger files, the writing speed goes down to 5 MB/s and even stops temporarily for some time. The writing performance of this product is among the worst I have ever seen, and I have owned many SD cards.

I just received this item that I purchased a few days ago. Occasionally, it gets way too hot (I don't know if that's normal) for no apparent reason. Am I the victim of a faulty product?

A very hot environment can result from them. A 128 GB model and a 16 GB model are both in my collection. Afterwards, after writing for a long period of time, they could be very hot, so touching them could be a problem.

I bought two of them in April and they were both dead within a week
3/5

The only time I've used each of them was a few times and not for longer periods of time. They did get hot, but not enough to make me afraid. Fast USB 3 speeds are provided by them. My overall impression of this drive when it worked was that I liked its design and function. My only problem, however, is plugging one in and seeing 0 out of 0 bytes free, meaning that I cannot open it. No Windows or Ubuntu version of this drive can be formatted. Windows cannot be used to partition it, or another program cannot be used. I'm going to have to remove this drive. Seeing this recently, I decided to write this review since it happened awhile ago. I was browsing through my order history here and saw this pop up and I realized I could not return it since I had passed my 30 day return period. Also, do you know if the 30 day returns period applies? Isn't it unlikely that these will last a long time? While it lasted just over a month, I think it was used just a handful of times. In other words, all the data that I had on it. . . The day has passed. In other words, before you invest in this, I would say do not make this your primary storage for anything important. Always have a backup somewhere else.

SanDisk made a good purchase
3/5

In fact, I've been a SanDisk fan since I was a child, and use all my memory cards from this brand. I have a total of 5 cards and a drive. Prior to recently, I was using them for music in my car.
This drive always worked great before. As well as this 128gb sandisk, I bought a Samsung 128gb at the same time. No issue with it. Of all the problems, this is the worst. Skips music randomly when this card is plugged in. . . My Samsung and this card have been swapped between cars, and it seems to happen on this card only, so it's not my car.

I have another SD card that's SanDisk that I only used for the camera. I have also started having trouble with it.

Over time, performance degrades rapidly, speeds fluctuate wildly, and it is hot
3/5

The initial performance of the drive was excellent, with read speeds of over 120 MB/s and write speeds of over 30 MB/s. However, after transferring files of 100 GB at a time several times, the performance quickly deteriorated. As of now, it is showing 40 MB/s read and 25 MB/s write. I assume it was just toasting itself due to the heat. The water gets extremely hot even after just a couple minutes, as other reviewers have noted. Consider how many times it would need to be written, and what the amount of heat would be, if it contained 116 GB of files, and had to read 116 GB of files while being transferred. I only used it once or twice and it had burned out on me.

However, the price you pay for 128GB of storage isn't too bad, and the performance is also acceptable.

What is the reason for the slow response? This arrived and I immediately began transferring files
3/5

My computer seemed to be very slow. I used some diagnostic speed testing software and it confirmed my suspicions. The write speeds were averaged at 20 MB/s and below. Read speeds were up to 100 MB/s on average, but write speeds were about 10 MB/s. That's not good. However, it is affordable, has no annoying lights, and fits on a key chain. I'm keeping it, but I am disappointed with SanDisk, a company I have purchased drives from a lot in the past. A large file transfer speed is much better than a small one. *8696k:12 Speed of Writing:22. Ten megabytes per second: 1092k:12 Write Speed: 15. The writing speed was 15 at 99MB/s*8192k:12. Writing at 72MB/s*8192k:12 gives an average write speed of 17. The read speed was 107 when the data rate was 51MB/s. There was a reading speed of 115 MB/s at 8192k:11. The reading speed is 115. The 76MB/s

This is a warning: You can feel the heat coming from the drive
4/5

In terms of size and speed, it works great as a keychain, but the drive itself gets VERY hot and is difficult to handle, particularly close to the ports. When removing it from your computer, put a hand near the loop on the back of the drive and hold from there. As long as I saw people getting burned, I thought it would be a good idea to warn them.

This is a small flash drive with good performance
5/5

Overall, this is a very good flash drive, making it read and write at 140MB per second (slightly slower than the 64GB model). In terms of performance, it isn't quite as fast as the SanDisk extreme version, but it is I think the fastest metal drive I have seen. In addition, the metal design appears durable should this withstand being thrown around with my keys for quite some time. It's all great except for the part of the drive that is partly metal (silver portion) and the part of the key ring that is plastic (black/grey portion in diagram). It was my expectation that it would be all metal, but the plastic keyring seems durable, and it should provide years of service. As for the drive getting very hot while doing large transfers, that is to be expected since it is a small metal drive, but it is important to note.
