Questions & Answers

How much actual space does the user have? I'll need at least 230GB of free space. ?

I had 248,125,304,832 free bytes available on mine after reformatting to Apple's HFS journaled file system. There were 248,437,014,528 bytes in the raw capacity.

Has anyone had this for three years? Have you been happy with it for 5 months or longer? Is everything still in order? Please accept my sincere gratitude! ?

It works flawlessly and quickly, with a nice even loading rate of 21MBPS. 31 MBPS. It settles in evenly between these numbers and loads in nearly the same number all over the (in my case) music until it's all loaded. In my case, the speed was around 28MBPS. The file format that I use is NTFS. Maybe exFat is a little faster or slower; I haven't tried it because everything was fine before and I didn't want to format the drive just to find out. Because I didn't need locked security, I did a quick format at the beginning to leave the drive completely empty. I'm assuming it does what it says on the tin. The recording quality was excellent. From the Rxer to the car to the PC, every function fell into place perfectly. I've found all Sandisks to be well made, and most importantly, reliable, for years, but this particular model has very little heat build up and is, overall, the best I've ever used. The polar opposite of a certain brand beginning with a 'P' that runs hot and is destined to fail at some point, resulting in the loss of approximately 5600 songs. Getting the songs to play in the same order as on the CD is a constant problem for me, and I haven't figured out how to do it yet, despite the fact that all USB drives appear to do it. I'm pretty sure there's a way, but I haven't found it yet on any brand; any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Aside from that, this is a winner, and at $11, it's a steal. It's new and only 99 dollars, so it's a great deal. Paul, it's been a year and there haven't been any issues.

When it's plugged in, does it appear to be a hard drive or removable storage?

It's recognized as a removable drive in Windows, but it works just like any other hard drive. If your BIOS allows you to boot from a removable USB drive, you can use it as a boot drive as well.

However, it only takes one bad experience to ruin a brand
3/5

I don't usually write reviews, but one bad experience can completely derail a company's reputation. SanDisk drives are prone to going into "Write Protected" mode, where you can no longer add or remove any files. I've purchased several SanDisk products in the past and I believe this is the first time I've had one brick on me, but after some research, this has been going on for a long time. To put it another way, it becomes "Read Only," which means you're stuck with whatever is on it. I tried several methods to remove the write protection on my drive, but according to SanDisk's website, there is no way to remove it or reformat the drive, indicating that the drive has a flaw or bug. SanDisk is aware of this, but continues to sell them to customers who are unaware of the situation.

It's hot to the touch and takes a long time to write
3/5

It is not advised. Even when not reading or writing, the USB connector on this drive becomes uncomfortably hot when plugged into a USB extension cable. I haven't had this problem with any other flash drive I've tried, though I've heard that some metal-cased ones do as well. br>br>The second issue is that writes are slow, especially when dealing with small files. I should have paid more attention to the reviews here that stated this. br>br>After some research, I decided to replace it with the SanDisk Extreme CZ80 64 GB flash drive. It's quieter, and the write speed is 5 times faster for large files and 20 times faster for small files (both drives are formatted as NTFS). I even found it on a Daily Deal for only $7 more than the Ultra CZ48, but even if you have to pay twice as much, I think it's worth it. br>br>I don't recommend the Ultra CZ48, but the Extreme CZ80 is fantastic.

Two out of two drives failed, which was disappointing in terms of reliability and durability
3/5

I ordered two of these drives on 5/24/2018 and attempted to use them on 5/30/2018, but they both failed after a few minutes of use. When I ran a disk benchmark on one of the drives, it immediately went into "write protected mode. " br>Tried formatting to NTFS on the second drive, but it failed and went into "write protected mode" as well. Great drive, but there's a problem with the software that came with it
4/5

The SanDisk Ultra USB 3. 0 is a USB 3. 0 flash drive with a capacity of The 0 Flash Drive performs exactly as expected. Transfers to and from the card appear to be very fast. The drive is of average size, with a slide button for inserting and removing the USB connector, similar to many others. It also has a blue light that indicates readiness and activity during the transfer. The drive is labeled in such a way that it's obvious which side needs to be turned up in order for it to be properly inserted. (I despise drives that require you to go one way and then the other because you can't tell which side should be turned up just by looking at them. ) Finally, on one end of the curve, there is a molded hole that allows the drive to be hung on a key chain. br>br>The only drawback I discovered, which is why this is a four-star review, is that The reason for the one-star rating rather than a five-star rating is due to the software on the hard drive, which includes an executable that I believe is related to drive security. When I ran it, it detected that the program needed an update and downloaded it, but the update failed to install. br>br>I paid full price for this flash drive on Amazon, and I wrote this review to try to educate others on it. I hope this review was beneficial to you. If, on the other hand, you didn't find this review useful, I'd like to know why so that I can try to improve it and make it more useful to you and others. If you leave a comment on the review suggesting how it could be improved, I promise to respond and, if possible, incorporate your suggestion into my review. My goal is to write reviews that help people in the same way that other people's reviews have helped me. Thanks!.
