As for my Alienware m17 R3 laptop, it works fine. In any case, if it does not fit your device, you can return it free of charge.
It was the heatsink that caused the problem. Even though I'm no expert, I don't think you need to cover the heatsink with paste.
There is nothing more to it than a heatsink.
There is enough room in the 1st and 2nd slot for it.

My wife and I just purchased a refurbished Alienware M17 R3 laptop at an incredible price. It has a Radeon GPU and a single 256Gb PCIE NVME M2 SSD branded by SK Hynix. A big plus for me is When I completed installing all my software I realized that the SSD was over three quarters full, so I bought a secondary Purchasing this heatsink was an easy decision because I was aware of copper's excellent heat transfer properties. Amazon Prime compatibility and a great price-to-performance ratio make this a great buy. As has been shown on other reviews for this heatsink, it is indeed compatible with the Alienware M17 R3 notebook. A set of two screws is included as well as pre-cut holes It has been applied to a The Samsung 2Tb EVO Plus 2280 SSD that I just purchased comes with a heatsink that is now in charge of drawing away heat. In the future, my notebook still has a free 2280 SSD slot that can be used for a second 2Tb 2280 SSD.
My hesitation was due to the fact that it was a non-certified item This is not the Dell branded product I was expecting for my brand new Alienware M17 R4, but the reviews indicated these would work well. These are the two that I bought A second 2280 slot is assigned to one device, and the second 2230 slot is assigned to another. *We have compound on the back of these for heat transfer, so yes, we have that. After removing the blue film, you just put these babies over your SSDs and screw them in place. This is a piece of cake. Although the compound is somewhat sticky, it does allow you to apply it and reapply it if you need to adjust it after installing it or if your SSD needs to be replaced.
My Alienware M17 R3 was a perfect match for it. When I bought the laptop, it had a 256GB SSD installed. My intention at the time was to pull out the SSD and replace it with an Evo 970 Plus 1TB, keeping the 256GB for It has taken me a while to realize that the Dell heatsink that is sent is the 2230, so when I tried to replace it the present I am really pleased with how this fits in with the 970 plus and you can easily copy over the image using the Samsung software.
The 2TB M came with this, so I bought it for it. A total of 2 2280 SSDs. The M17 R4 will work with it. No desire to pay 2 dollars to Dell Because it would have cost me $3x for a similar drive to come preinstalled, I decided to install it myself and purchased this to use as a heatsink. The effectiveness or requirement of the system may not be required really. The system is designed by Dell, so it is on there. According to the model number, it appears to be the original equipment manufacturer part. A copy is not acceptable.
A little while back I bought an Alienware laptop with two SSDs. This is why Dell doesn't include these heat sinks with the second and third drives Is there room for two drives? It appears that Dell also sells them. No sense at all. I found this one and thought it would be perfect. Thanks so much!.
want to add a second SSD to your Alienware laptop, then this is the best choice. Despite having purchased an M15 R3 with a single SSD, I was planning to install a WD Black SSD for the best I've been using it for several months now since I plugged in the WD SSD and put this on the top.
Original equipment manufacturer. My Alienware M17r4 laptop could not have been happier with it. NVMe SSDs keep cool by using this method. If you want to add a drive, you will need one.
