It is AHCI-compliant without a doubt. Windows 8 recognizes both my SSD and regular hard drives without the need for drivers. I didn't have to reformat or initialize my drives; they just appeared in the system. My ssd, which had previously maxed out at 450MBps with the onboard SATA ports, continued to do so. I didn't try a faster SSD to see how fast this thing could go, but it probably could. It includes two SATA cables as well as a low-profile bracket.
I bought this to expand the number of SATA ports on my computer. I have four SATA ports on my motherboard, and I wanted to add more. The card is recognized, but it adds SATA 1, 2, 3, 4, which I already have, causing my computer to lock up.
