Questions & Answers

Isn't pcie 2 supposed to do something? The 8 sata ports, which, if all used, could use rates up to 48 gbps (8x6 gbps), bottleneck the 0 x8 rate of up to 32 gbps?

If you're trying to run continuous streams to/from all of the connected disks at the same time, you're correct. That access pattern is extremely uncommon, at least in my case. The only time I can see this limit being exceeded is if multiple streams of output are written to separate disks in parallel in order to achieve a high combined output streaming rate. In that case, you should only use four streams at a time; attempting to use five or six at once will result in the limit you describe. However, if you're mostly reading or doing overlapping reads/writes, disk latency will most likely obscure the bandwidth limit. What exactly are you attempting to accomplish?

Is this suitable for truenas and zfs?

Should work to connect drives, but zfs doesn't like to support these types of cards, if my memory serves me correctly. I use Linux to run mine, and it's fantastic.

Is this card compatible with Mac computers? It can also be used to start a Mac. ?

No, it won't work on a Mac.

It's a little slow to load, but once it's up and running, it's lightning fast
4/5

These were purchased to increase the speed of my HDD cluster, and they certainly did so. The card bios, on the other hand, takes a long time to load while the computer is booting up. However, once it loads and enters your operating system, there was a noticeable speed increase on the SAS drives, and it works properly. I was impressed by the performance boost provided by the SAS drives, but for the price, solid state might be a better option. Overall, it's an excellent card.

Upgrade the Firmware to get real hardware RAID support you can rely on! I recommend upgrading the firmware because it provided me with a significant performance boost
5/5

br>br>I purchased the SAS9211- My Dell T7500 dual xeon workstation received an upgrade to version 8i. I wanted to use a pair of SATA III 2TB Western Digital RE drives in a RAID1 configuration to get the most out of them. It falls into a kind of sweet spot for serious RAID controllers in terms of specifications and price. This is not to be confused with the less expensive "fake raid" or FRAID controllers, which are software raid with some hardware assistance. br>br>I had first tried a "fake raid" or FRAID controller.
