Questions & Answers

Is it possible to raid drives that are solely for storage connected to this?

Yes - I have mine installed on a Windows computer, and I use Storage Pools to stripe 4-dimensional data. 1TB SSDs in a RAID 0 array with a total capacity of 4TB. The drives are in a RAID array, but the operating system is controlling it rather than the controller card.

Has anyone used Xpenology to do this?

I haven't tested it, but it'should' work because it uses the libata ahci module.

Is this based on sata or nvme? I'm attempting to connect one of these to a microcontroller. Multiple sata ports for optical drives can be used with this 2 to USB adapter. ?

Although this device uses NVMe, it is also SATA compatible. Physically, there are two connectors. keyed (i. In the edge card connector, there are two slots). A "B" is the term used to describe this situation. Connector of type M Because the IO CREST is essentially an NVMe to SATA III converter, it will work with whatever M.2 interface your motherboard has. The two ports are intended for. I've had mine for about a year, and it's been flawlessly controlling four 1TB SSDs in a RAID 0 (striping) configuration throughout that time. My purchase has left me completely satisfied. It should be simple to control SATA optical drives.

I was given the number five.

I'm a big fan of what you've done so far
5/5

One of the negative reviews I read about this device on Amazon made me a little nervous, but my fears were quickly dispelled. I was also worried about my motherboard's M. Because it is an NVMe slot rather than a SATA slot, the 2 slot may not be compatible. That, too, vanished in an instant. It was ready to use right away. Baby, it's all about the play! br>br>I was also concerned because I had recently purchased a 6-foot by 6-foot by 6-foot by 12-foot by 12-foot by 12-foot by 12-foot by 12-foot by 12-foot by 12-foot by 12- I bought a port PCIe controller from Amazon and it worked perfectly until I tried to set up software RAID on it (via the operating system). When I wrote to one disk at a time, the controller worked fine, but when I tried to write to the RAID array, the system became clogged, and the array vanished until I rebooted it. That was a horrible ordeal. This controller, on the other hand, is crushing it with software RAID! br>br>When I write a file larger than about 100GB, it has issues. This 5-point scale is what I'm working with. In my Server 2012 iSCSI target (SAN) computer, I have a port controller. When I was attempting to move my. I was able to work around this issue by recreating the virtual disks and then copying the contents from one disk to the other. It does a great job with a lot of small files. I'm not sure why large files fail, but thankfully, my file copying requirements never exceed 60GB, and the majority of my file activity is routine (small) stuff (Word Docs, text files, movie and music files, and so on). br>br>I would strongly advise anyone with a free NVMe M to get this controller. On their m-card, they have two slots. who requires a larger storage capacity on their board.

My M2 was slain
3/5

Avoid slots at all costs! On the surface, this add-in board appears to be a good idea, but it ended up destroying my motherboard's M. Two slots, one in which the board was installed and the other in which a Samsung 960 EVO was installed. I'm not sure if it's just not compatible with my ASrock B450 Steel Legend or if the one I got was defective, but it shouldn't be taking out M in any case. It only took up two slots, but it didn't take out my SSD! br>br>Aside from that, assuming it works, the card itself is made of a very thin and flimsy PCB that feels like it will break in half when SATA cables are inserted. For the price of the card, they should at least use a decently thick PCB.

For my Unraid Plex Server, this is an excellent extension
5/5

This is running on a non-raid server with five WD Reds connected to it. R/W speeds are the same as when they were directly connected to the mobo sata port; I had no problems streaming four 4K remux streams via Plex from HDs loaded on this card, and I ran a full parity check with no r/w errors. As a result, I am overjoyed. This can even be found on the m. My board has two slots on the back, so I put it in a case with the mobo tray cut out so I can access the ports.

Although it works well with Unraid, it is not very durable
4/5

This was purchased to add a couple of additional SATA ports to my Unraid Server. The drives connected to this device were detected without issue by Unraid, with the exception of the PCB board, which is extremely flexible. Connecting and disconnecting SATA cables must be done with caution. It didn't come with a heatsink to put on top of the controller, so I ended up putting an extra heatsink underneath to keep it from bending so much when attaching a new cable drive. br>br>It also didn't come with a heatsink to put underneath it to keep it from bending so much when attaching a new cable drive. br>br>It also didn't come with a heatsink to put on top of the I'm not sure if one is required on the chip, but I have an extra heatsink from a Raspberry Pi that fits perfectly. br>br>David br>br>David br>br>David.

It does exactly what it says

Excellent product; it was a quick and painless way to increase the number of SATA ports on my UNRAID server for PLEX.

It lasted two months before succumbing to a sustained load
3/5

On February 21, he was purchased, and on April 29th, he passed away. br>br>It was great while it lasted, getting full speed from all five SATA drives connected to it. However, while my ZFS pool was being scrubbed (bi-directionally), The 5 drives connected to this device were disconnected on a weekly basis, as part of an automatic task. I installed a different operating system, but it couldn't see the 5 drives connected to this device, so I'm guessing it overheated to the point of no return due to the constant scrubbing load. I had hoped that because the case has three 120mm fans set to maximum speed, overheating would not be an issue. issue. br>br>Also, after rebooting after this adapter died, the active 10g port I was using is no longer reliable; however, the second 10g port is still functional. br>br>It was a cool concept with great speeds while it lasted, but it wasn't worth it for those of us who need a lot of storage.

With Windows 10, you can simply plug and play
5/5

On my AsRock x570 Phantom Gaming 4 (AMD x570), it works perfectly. My system now has five Seagate hard drives. It worked the first time I tried it, and I've never had a problem with it since. I would not recommend using SATA cables with locking latches because the board itself has a little more give and appears to be a little more fragile than I would like. Getting them out isn't easy, and it causes a lot of flex in the board, to the point where I was concerned it would be damaged. I only use non-toxic products. From now on, there will be lockers on this one.

Adding 5 SATA ports to a M
5/5

2 Mobo works great. 2 Slot. It does exactly as it says. For a home server, I needed additional SATA slots. This is superior to PCIe variants and requires no additional space.
