Questions & Answers

Is a MacPro5,1 (the old cheese grater tower) capable of booting from this setup?

I use it as my boot drive on my 5 as long as you're running Mojave. a single Mac Pro tower

What does the linux os think of the two nvme drives?

It should appear as two drives, Dear Customer.br> However, it may be dependent on the Linux version; older operating systems are unlikely to have the necessary drivers built in.

A pcie x16 3 is what I have. In an x99s gaming 9 ac with only 8 lanes, there is a 0 slot. Is it still possible to use this? I'd like to install two Evo 970s in it. ?

I believe this card only uses 8 lanes, Mr. Customer. However, I am unsure. It should work, but if you have any questions or require additional information, please email support (AT) sybausa (DOT) com. Amazon Questions aren't the most reliable source of technical assistance.

Why are there 16 PCI Express lanes on this card? Eight pcie lanes are sufficient for two x4 nvme drives. ?

It has to do with the chipset used, dear customer.br> This card has a chipset that allows NVMe drives to work with computers that would not otherwise be able to use NVMe (such as older Intel or AMD computers).

Outstanding work
5/5

This was purchased for my 2009 Mac Pro (4,1 with firmware version 5,1/2010). It performs admirably, delivering more than 2. Read speeds of 9 GB/s and write speeds of 2 GB/s were achieved. With a Samsung 970 Pro NVM blade, you can write at 2 GB/s. Prior to this, I was using a Lycom DT-100. The PCIe 2 imposes a 120-bit limit. The Mac Pro has a spec of 0 (the tops are around 1. 3 - 4 GB/s), but this I/O Crest card circumvents that restriction by employing a 16x PCIe 2 interface. 0 lane. Both the M and the N have thermal pads on the card. 2 blades and their respective chips, as well as an internal fan cooler (which is extremely quiet). For a machine that is ten years old, this is an incredible upgrade.

It's a four
4/5

So far, excellent customer service and a good product. Summarybr>br>I would give this a 4 because there are only minor flaws. I'd give it a 5, but Amazon only allows me to choose whole numbers, and I can't justify perfect; at the end of the day, I'm satisfied with the product and would purchase it again. The manufacturer, I believe, could easily correct the problems I had. Support was extremely responsive and helpful, and contributed significantly to my satisfaction with the product. br>br>Installation –br>br>Supposed to come with four screws. 2 for attaching the NVMe stick mounts and 2 for screwing the NVMe sticks into the mounts to keep them in place. Two of those were included, as well as one much thicker screw. Fortunately, the four screws used to remove the heat sink/shield were the same ones, so I stole two of them and only used two on the shield until I could get replacements. As a result, the manufacturer was quick to respond to my questions about screw size and referred me to their Support, which was excellent and promptly shipped out the two missing screws without delay. It's impossible to imagine a better way to handle a problem. It also included a small screwdriver, so you won't need to go out and buy one. It's always a plus to have something to look forward to. Windows 7 detected the card and installed drivers without my intervention. I'm not booting from the drives, so I don't have any information on them. br>br>Manual –br>br>The "Manual" that came with the product was not a manual, but rather a small sheet of paper listing the product's features, System Requirements, and contents. There are no instructions or a support URL. When I went to the Support site to look for the screws the rep recommended, I found no other documentation. I understand not wanting to spend the money on a large manual to keep production and thus MY costs down, and I'm perfectly fine with that, but at the very least put a pdf on your site for users. Compatibility with the system - br>br>I have a MSI x99s Gaming 9 AC with a 40-lane processor. br>br>When I first looked into buying this, I wasn't convinced that it would work in an x16 slot with only 8x PCIE lanes mapped to it. Yes, it does, I can assure you. However, I can tell you that when I put it in the top slot on my MB, which has two groups of eight lanes mapped to it, it locked up all 16 lanes, even though it only needed eight, preventing my card from working in another slot that used those other eight lanes. This was not the case with the x8 card that had previously been installed in the slot. As a result, I had to put it in the slot with the second group of 8 lanes mapped to it, and the NVMe drive with a standard PCIE adapter in the 16 lane slot. After that, it worked like a charm. I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your motherboard and requesting a diagram of how the PCIE lanes are switched to the slots on your motherboard. An x16 slot does not always imply that there are 16 lanes available. –br>Slot 1 – Lycom PCIE NVME adapter with Samsung 950 Pro –br>Final slot configuration –br> (Uses the eight lanes in front of you. ) Slot 2 – This card with two Samsung Evo 970 NVMe drives (Shares the same 8 lanes as slot 3 and the back half of slot 1)br>Slot 3 – Empty (Shares the same 8 lanes as slot 2 and the back half of slot 1)br>Slot 4 – 1080 Ti (has two sets of 8 lanes all to itself, not shared anywhere else)br>Slot 5 – Lycom PCIE NVME adapter with Samsung x 2 slot)br>br>If you've made it this far, here are the results of my performance tests. The Samsung Evo 870 M was used for all of the testing. Samsung Magician was used to connect two NVMe 1TB drives. It was first put to the test in a Lycom single M. While performance was slightly lower in this adapter than in the 2 slot adapter, it was difficult to notice. Users who might notice it would spend a lot more money on their setup than they would on this card, making it a non-starter. I'm including the information in the interest of complete disclosure. –br>Sequential (MB/s) –br>In the Lycom adapter –br>In the Lycom adapter –br>In the Lycom adapter –br>In the Lycom adapter –br>In the Lycom adapter – Random (IOPS) – Read 412,109 / Write 300,781br>In this product with a drive in both slots –br>Sequential (MB/s) – Read 3545 / Write 2440, Sequential (MB/s) – Read 412,109 / Write 300,781br>In this product with a drive in both slots –br> Random (IOPS) – Read 390,625 / Write 286,621 / Read 3490 / Write 2420 / Read 3490 / Write 2420 / Read 3490 / Write 2420 / Read 3490 / Write 2420 / Read 3490.

There was an issue with the installation, but it was resolved, and it now functions perfectly! I replaced the hard drive with a 500 GB m2 nvme blade drive and installed it in a Mac Pro 4,5/5,1 (a pci-e slot)
5/5

e. g. , a v2 slot). It went unnoticed by Hight Sierra. at all. There isn't any. I went through all the trouble of updating to Mojave, and it still didn't recognize it, much less offer it as a boot drive. br>br>It's a complete waste of money right now, and it makes me angry. EDIT: br>br> The MP4 was the source of the issue. The back notch on long cards is secured by a rod on 1. I had assumed it was seated when I noticed this. I was, however, completely incorrect. I took it out and put it in an x16 slot (where I had previously been using a Kingston Predator AHCI blade drive, which I had moved to an X4 slot) before installing this guy. It took a little fiddling, but the drive appeared after a reboot. I rebooted after cloning the new Mojave installation to it. Wonderfulbr>br>The Amorphous Diskmark program estimates it to be around 20-years old. 25% faster than the Kingston which is 10X faster than stock Sata 2 ports br>br>I used a Silicon Power nvme drive instead of the faster Samsung because I didn't want to risk the higher price. This carrier, on the other hand, can hold two people. <G>.

NVMe is a very fast storage medium
5/5

This was purchased as a gift for a Mid-Life Crisis survivor. A 2012 Mac Pro with four PCIe 2. There are two 16x ports and 0 ports. This card fits perfectly into slot 2, which is a single-wide slot. The Mac's slot 1 is double-wide, but it's filled with an AMD Radeon RX 580. br>This means that this card takes up slot 3 and only leaves one slot open for a slow. Also, the NVMe blades get very hot, and after a while, I noticed "artifacts" on the screen that I hadn't seen before, so I didn't re-install it. appear after the card has been taken away. br>According to Black Magic's SSD benchmark, this card with two Samsung 2TB drives (4TB total) can achieve write speeds of up to 2450 MB/sec and read speeds of up to 2895 MB/sec, which is impressive for a PCIe 2 machine. The card, on the other hand, is PCIe 3. 0 where it should be twice as fast and possibly without the screen artifacts. br>When it comes to real-life situations, The internal SATA-based performance tests, as well as real-world performance tests The performance of two drives with direct slots on the Mac's motherboard was better and more linear. I mostly use those drives for virtual machines, and a VM on the SATA-based drive would boot up in 20 seconds. (In a three-player game) two drives On this controller, it would take anywhere from 60 to 180 seconds to boot up (in a RAID0 configuration). I don't think it's the controller's fault; it could be the older PCIe backplane combined with a lack of power. I had to return both the card and the blades, which was unfortunate.

When only one SSD blade is installed in a Mac Pro, it fails
3/5

I bought the card to get the most out of a Samsung 970 Pro NVME on a Mac Pro from the 1980s. Due to the cMP's gen 2 PCIe slots, an NVME blade installed in a traditional Mac Pro slot can only achieve 1500MB/sec. This card can combine 8x gen 2 and 4x gen 3 speeds when installed in a 16x slot. With a blade installed on this card, I was able to get over 2900MB/Sec out of the same 970 Pro. The issue is that when copying large files with only one blade installed, the Mac will hang and then restart. I could have bought another SSD, but I decided to return it because it was flaky with only one. It was impossible for me to believe it. For the NVME standoffs, they also included the incorrect screw sizes.
