Questions & Answers

Do you know if this is compatible with FreeNAS?

It is true. With this card I was first running FreeNAS and then testing OpenMediaVault. Both work!

This card has 6 gbps sata iii throughput on all 6 ports in a pcie x1 slot, but can it really achieve that?

Win10 Pro was very difficult to get to work with the card. It is not possible to update card drivers as they Initially, I was able to get the card working for a week, but it never worked Older drivers are what I believe to be causing the problem. This card is no longer recommended because of its outdated drivers.

I would like to download the driver. Where can I find it?

I have posted this review in the review section for this card *br>This seems to be working fine loaded with drives, but even with some of the suggestions received here and in the reviews it still took me a while to search for the latest drivers for it so I gave it another star. Does anyone know if the motherboard intel raid feature will work ?

A raid controller is not included with this card.

UnRAID works flawlessly with this program! It works right out of the box with Unraid! There have been some previous reviews that said it had a hit or miss record with Unraid, but I believe this card works right out of the box with the latest updates
5/5

Neither the eight or six port card was available in my area, so I went with the six port and all six ports are in use and working properly and are detected by the operating system of unraid. The IOMMU is working and there are no connectivity problems. I have a 4-UPDATE. In the year 2021, the program is still going strong without any issues, even after a failed HDD. Rsync parity was replaced and all is well again.

Once you have the correct firmware installed, it is a nice product
3/5

I threw the CD that came with it in the trash before realizing I would have such a difficult time finding a proper firmware online. After reading some comments here I was able to find the right driver from a site called "MAGNI family driver 1". By searching for "Marvell 88SE91xx/88SE92xx SATA Driver" in the results, you will find "1041". I installed the card and placed the correct firmware on it, and it worked as expected. Up until that point, random drives would show up in the bios every time the system restarted (only two drives were available at the same time). Other than that, I purchased SATA cables separately (these cables seem cheap) and the card seems to be working as it should. My score of 3 stars is based on the fact that the drivers weren't automatically installed by Windows, and there was no web site included where the firmware could be easily found.

Install the driver and it works like a charm
5/5

Despite the 8 HDDs being installed in the mother board, only four of them would be recognized. Following the installation of the driver, all 8 drives are recognized correctly in Windows. Drivers come on a disk that has a mini CD drive, which is extremely inconvenient considering optical drives aren't as widely used as CD drives. It took some effort to find a computer with an optical drive, copy the driver onto a USB, and then install it on the target machine. Tried to use the windows 10 built-in raid, but that went wrong without giving any specific errors. Other options have not been tried, but it is hoped that other software raids As far as we can tell, everything worked well. The price is good for what you get. In addition to that, the PCB is black and looks great.

The card works, the installation is not great, and the card software is not good
3/5

I am very satisfied with the delivery. This is a very good card in terms of looks and feel. The installation was fine (Server 2012 R2, manual install), but the operating system was not listed for support, so it needed to be added manually. The big turn off and problem (see picture) is the labels of the SATA1 and SATA2 drives this is a massive turn off. I DO NOT THINK 8 ARE RIGHT! To check the drive ports, I had to connect the first drive, boot up the machine, wait for the SATA summary screen to appear, and note the port number. As you can see, SATA 1 is 2, 1 is 1, 3 is 1, and all others are 3. Five port 3s, but it only shows the first four drives connected, but not the ranking or the port number. Has a 5 mph speed limit In Windows, you can see the 8 screen but not the card summary screen or the BIOS. Having said that, once everything had been installed, it worked fine however, because of ports being manually logged, the installation ended up taking 3 hours. When using ECC RAM on a server, it doesn't boot up very quickly. What should have been a 20-second procedure takes 40 minutes. I spent 30 minutes installing and it has been slow. Card works fine, but I'll have to perform stress testing.

Once the drivers have been installed, 8 port Sata controller is working as expected
4/5

There are eight good quality, long (20 inch or more) SATA cables with straight connectors and metal clips included with the unit. This device will NOT appear as an unknown device in the 20H2 build of Windows 10. It is necessary to use the driver disk to install it manually so all connected drives will be visible. There are drivers on the mini CD for several other products as well. SATA CARD directory is where you will want to look. At this point it gets confusing because there are directories for ASMedia, JMicron, and Marvell, each of which can be used as a controller chip. With the controller chip being covered by a heat sink, it might be difficult to find out precisely where it is. The Marvell 9230 chipset driver I selected works for the six drives I am connecting. There may be a reason to like the dark blue leds on the circuit board indicating connected drives depending on your setup. There are no RGB colors - The biggest problem I encountered was the plastic anchor securing the heatsink to the controller chip that protruded approximately at the center of the circuit board. As it was touching the dual slot width graphic card fan next to it, it made contact with the plastic anchor.

Linux/Debian machines can be connected to ProxMox plug and play
5/5

Having read some reviews and having messed with the flashing process on an LSI card before returning the device, I was pretty concerned about this product. The card just worked when I plugged it into my HP Compaq Elite 8300 Small Form Factor laptop (intel i5, 8GB RAM, 3 of 4 SATA ports were already full) and I was surprised at how well it Together with the PCI M, I paired this device. I then installed a 2X2 card and now run a mix of NVMe, SATA SSD, and hard drives easily. Excellent product. I strongly recommend it. If it doesn't work after messing with the drivers, go try a different brand. These cards tend to be very specific and it's not the manufacturer's fault. The card seems well built so we'll have to see how it performs under constant home media server loads.

The driver doesn't need to be installed
5/5

It's ready to go out of the box. In my case, I put it into a B450 Tomahawk Max MB that runs six 10Tb drives. We were able to boot straight up this 240 GB FreeNAS system with 1 SSD drive. We were able to see all six Should this fail at some point, I'll buy another for myself.

Windows 8 or 10 will not work with this
3/5

The first issue is that there are no drivers for this card online. Windows does not recognise it, so it will not seek them out You are given a CD ROM that includes drivers with the software. In my experience, I haven't had a computer with a real CD drive in years, so if you don't have one, there is no way to download driver software. At first, I installed the chipset-based drivers for this card and it worked, but only with ports 1 through 2. There are five ports in total There was a problem with 8 . So I had to find and install an old DVD drive to get the driver for the drive and it was a real hassle. In the event that the driver was installed, the system booted into a system shutdown loop after causing a blue screen and resulting When you revert to the last working state, your Windows should work again. In the process of reinstalling the driver, the system crashed again, and the windows system had to be reset before it could It won't work for any counter winning version of Windows beyond version.
