A REVIEW OF THE STATE OF THE WORLD I decided to reach out to the manufacturer for clarity and additional testing, and the manufacturer determined that I had received a version of the cable older than expected. As a result, I got a new set of cables at no cost. After testing with the new cables, which involved lots of cables moving and adjusting while the RAID arrays were being built and running, there were no dropped drives or problems with reliability. There were no problems at all. As a bonus, I must also comment that it was a real pleasure to work with the suppliers, who were very professional and friendly throughout the transaction. There was only one plug that sat properly the other one was loose and did not latch. In one of my devices I noticed that the connector socket was poorly designed and allowed the cable plug to be inserted at an incorrect angle (180 degrees), creating a bend in the connector that caused the connector to not latch. It's a great device, but the connector should have some kind of protection against being damaged by the socket. I give it 4 stars for that reason, but I think it's highly recommended.
The cable I required to connect my SAS QNAP card to my external expansion unit was not included. With this cable you can connect the expansion unit to your SAS card without using the cable provided by QNAP with the expansion unit. This cable is long enough that you don't have to place them right next to each other as the supplied cable would have required.
Cheaper cables have always been problematic in the past, but 10Gtek cables have never let me down. I switched to them years ago, and even after 100 or so cables I have yet to receive a bad cable.
