If I had known it wasn't a new idea, I would have prepared better. I thought it would be a good price for the money. There was a discharge of the battery. The card comes from an old Dell server, and it's not an LSI card. LSI would not support it, and it's not a LSI brand. There was a problem with the card. There is no rhyme or reason to its disappearance.

It works with both SAS and SATA Apparently the cables for connecting to the drives are polarized, so you have to get the correct ones in order for the controller to recognize the drives

I purchased the retail version of this controller where the license for the RAID software was included in the purchase price. To ensure a strong connection between the controller and the cable, you need to make sure they are firmly connected. If the controller is already installed in the computer, it can be difficult to remove it. After it is installed and hooked up to compatible drives, the set up is relatively simple. I had to work with a Broadcom engineer to help narrow the problem down to the cable for several days, but he was patient and helped me narrow it down. My RAID system has been configured as a RAID 60 system with eight drives since installing it. During the last couple of updates, I have had no problems. The software, drivers, firmware updates, and command line interface is all available from the Broadcom website. I downloaded the MegaRAID software from there as well as the drivers and firmware updates. Performance has been good and the system has worked well. With the power backup package and 1 GB buffer system, I'm good to go. The software works well and is highly recommended for anyone who wants to use a fault tolerant disk system for their computer and is comfortable adding new cards to it. Building my own is what I do. You might be better off using a grounding pad and strap when working inside your computer to be on the safe side.
