Questions & Answers

How important is it that your motherboard support pcie bifurcation to use this adapter? Is it compatible with PCI Does 0 x 16 work?

A SSD7101A is a A motherboard does not have to support PCIe Bifurcation in order to support 1.

This card runs at x4 speed when it is plugged into a pcie x16 slot? What is the reaction time? Are you saying it runs extremely slowly (compared to the x16 speed) or doesn't ?

A SSD7101A is a A PCIe 3 interface is used in 1. There are no x16 cells. As noted, this card will split lanes into four PCIe 3 lanes. A single NVMe has no more than four lanes.

There are any limitations regarding the compatibility of motherboards?

HighPoint recommends that customers avoid using motherboards that use the PX 8747 switch as a hardware switch. Please refer to the compatibility list provided on their website.

Selected User Reviews For High Point SSD7101A-1 NVMe RAID Controller

Mac Pro Tower models 4, 1, and 5 now feature SSD speeds and lives! You can boot from this unit with Mojave and Win 10! Apple's Mojave macOS included an upgrade to the Firmware/ROM BIOS of my Mac Pro 5,1 (with this update, my Mac Pro 5,1 In High Sierra, our boot ROM version is 138, instead of 0 for versions of High Sierra
5/5

I could then use NVMe SSDs in my Mac Pro under macOS 10. 12). Before, this was not possible under High Sierra or any other previous operating system. However, High Point makes it clear that their SSD7101A-based product does not In one of their SSD7101A devices, which were never designed to boot, one of their devices was never tested to do so It has a Samsung 970 Pro NVMe SSD (1TB), which is then mounted in my Mac Pro and my previous Mojave 10 machine in slot 3 on a PCIe 2 card. Guess what happens when Time Machine restores the 2 boot SSD image to the 970 Pro NVMe SSD? No High Point driver nor any other kind of software has been added to my Mac Pro 5,1 in order for it to boot It works fine for 2! Could there be a bifurcation issue? Not at all. I have attached the results of the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. In my opinion, this is just wonderful (although High Point's technical support insists that the SSD7101A-based computers are There is only one device available for use as a RAID unit, and it cannot be booted). Apple's newest iMac Pro is the only desktop computer to get similar speeds on a boot SSD, but for that to happen, the company uses its own Samsung NVMe SSD on a special motherboard. I can boot my Mac Pro 5,1 from a 970 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD with read/write speeds close to 3k MB/s, and it also boots Win 10 Pro from another 970 Pro 1TB NVMe SSD with the same read/write It has two 970 Pros mounted on it in slots 1 (top) and 2 (second from top), and it has no additional software or drivers installed. Now I must solve the mystery of what to do with the other two M's. How many NVMe blade slots are there? High Point (and Apple) are to be commended!.

Using SSD7101A, you can boot up a Quad M computer
5/5

The card has two PCIe slots. You will need a Mac Pro to use this software. Using SSD7101A, you can boot up a Quad M computer. A 2 PCIe SSD AHCI/NVMe adapter which can be used with the Apple Mac Pro launched in 2008, 2009, and 2010 'Out of the box', the SSD7101A delivers 3000 MB/S reads and writes when it is plugged into a PCIe 2 x16 slot. There is only one slot available at There is a 5 GT/s bandwidth. The use of one SSD or RAID 0 is equally effective no matter what the setup. The PCI Tool enabled the Enable 5 feature for me. It is possible to load 6000 MB/Sec using Samsung 970 Pro in RAID 0 with the SSD7101A and 0 GT/Sec on the SSD7101A.

Does not require any of the lists of motherboards or software, and virtually no support is available The existence of
3/5

It was after I reviewed their motherboard compatibility list (my motherboard was listed) and downloaded the drivers to make sure it would work with my operating system that I purchased this product. When I tried to contact support after installing the card I was unable to make it work as anything but a Pcie riser card (ASUS sells one for $60). Support is via email and after waiting 49 hours I finally got a short reply saying to I found that the old driver file did not even contain instructions, and after 30 minutes of trying to debug it, it was for a kernel that was so old my motherboard wouldn't function at all. I give it 2 stars because the card shows the drives as available drives in the OS, but well, what is the use of $ 400 raid card that cannot configure raid settings and runs drives 30% slower than they would if connected to the motherboard. am most likely going to return this card, since I don't believe that I will be getting adequate support to get this card to work as advertised any time.

A SSD7101A-based system It's the best M to take 1
5/5

Market for RAID cards is limited to two. I think the SSD7101A-D is a good choice It's the best M to take 1. Market for RAID cards is limited to two. My primary purpose is to use it as a work space
I have been consistently able to document speeds in the range of 13,000 MB/s with Samsung 970 EVO's when performing multiple tests. It has been a valuable investment that has greatly shortened production time. In real world testing, it is unbelievable how fast this card is for the price. * I should mention that the card is compatible with Kingston drives, and likely any other NVMe drives on the market at the time of writing. Not only does Samsung suffer from the problem. This controller does not include SSDs like the rSSD version (you can't use SSDs with it). Some may be confused by the advertisements and marketing. A second problem is that the card does not boot. In our opinion, this type of speed would be wasted for such a simple task as supporting a system boot drive. It is designed for high performance apps, not the boot drive itself. If you want to boot the OS from a single NVMe drive or even SATA SSD, you'd be better off using one. One of the things you will have to consider is whether you need 16 lanes for the best In order to take full advantage of this card's speed, you will need a system/motherboard that is capable of dedicating 16x lanes exclusively to it. If you don't think you are much of a DIYer, don't worry there is nothing to worry about. If you are connected to a x16 slot, you can check this easily using the RAID software that comes with it.

It's the strong NVMe controller you've been looking for Currently, there is no Mac Pro 2012
4/5

SD8101A is a High Point SSD 8101A A Mac Pro 2009 or 2010 has the best disk speed provider available in the form of a 1 NVMe Raid Controller The booting of your OS from one NVMe and the use of the other 3 NVMe as a raid can give you super fast disk speeds and fast data The only complaint I have from this product is that the fan makes a nice little noise when it works. Developing a better heating system There could have been an easier solution if the sink was produced by the manufacturer.

I'm stunned by how fast it is It took a lot of work to install on my machine
5/5

I was able to get it installed using 4 A pair of 500GB WD Black SSD NVMes are arranged in array "0" to make a 2TB drive. Although one caveat must be noted. It may be better to have a computer geek assist you with the install if you are not an experienced one. Those graphics cards have RTX 3090 in them, which is a beast of a card, and both of them had a plastic support between two metal walls of Since this board is full height and almost the same width as the graphics board, I had to use my Dremel to grind yet another notch so that the support would go over it and still stabilize the graphics board. I suppose I could have sawed it as well. If your type of computer is different, then this may or may not be a problem. Additionally, you must download the instructions too instead of using the insert card that comes with the board. Also, the links on the enclosed leaflet are no longer valid because the words "-" are now present. It is the "1" version, so that is the drivers & software It is important to have the right software. It will be interesting to see how things go from here on out. Despite all the costs, this setup cost us the sum of *$900 and we had to use small.
