It appears to work well. I can still use an installed 1 m SATA cable between the two units (the SATA spec sets a maximum of 2m per cable) and it is long enough that it can easily reach the SATA connectors on the front of the system board to the connector on the back. bit more confidence that things won't come loose unexpectedly in the future and cause strange faults.
