In the process of reviewing this device, I was all set to trash it, return it, and never use it again. As soon as I spent forty bucks, I felt extremely I tried it, but it did not work. After that, I thought I would be fair and try another If you plug this GoPro Pro 3 into a computer, it will display the following message. This software does not allow you to record with an external device until you plug in a 5mm mic or other input device.

I do have one complaint, and that's the reason I gave it 4/5 stars. There is no way this thing is worth the price. The truth is known to us all, to GoPro as well. If the camera came with a microphone jack, or if this adapter were selling for five bucks, they would have made more money. It is the only place to get a reliable and working GoPro mic adapter, so they are gouging us, but they know they can get away with it. You'll be hooked by the GoPro! The prices are way too high and the size is too large. You can at least make this adapter easier to use if you want to trap people into using it.

For the gopro 5, the mic adapter works great, but due to its large size it is difficult to mount on the camera. With any tripod or mount I use, I find it difficult to figure out whether to place the large adapter on top or on the bottom. No matter how I get it, it seems to get in the way. There is currently only one device that can be used with the gopro 5 or 6 that will allow a microphone to be plugged in. I can't recommend that you buy it since it does not work reliably enough to warrant the expense. There is no proper connection between the mic jack and the plug because the mic jack is so poorly designed. It is rare that audio is collected more than 25% of the time. This is not a good choice if you're doing an interview or recording any video where the audio is important. How many times have I thought the audio recording of my phone had been successful only to find out it did not work. One of the worst parts is that you can't check if it's working until you review the video on the camera after recording or uploading it. In fact, the only reason I've continued to use it is because I'm not aware of a more efficient solution that incorporates an external microphone.

I consider the one that I have now unusable for my needs at this time. A few others online also seem to experience the same problem, so there must be a quality control issue with some of these.
