Questions & Answers

What is the material of the filter ring? Is it brass or aluminum?

Magnalium is used to make the filter rim. Magnalium is an aluminium alloy consisting of 5% magnesium and 95% aluminum that is extremely strong and durable. Warm regards

What is the definition of peak performance?

Our product quality ranges are referred to as "1 Peak," "2 Peak," and "3 Peak." Japan Optics Glass is used in the production of our UV filters, both 1 Peak and 2 Peak. The most significant distinction between the ranges is the number of MRC (Multi-Response Control) (Multi-Response Control) (Multi-Res Coating (Resistant). There are 12 peak filters in 1 peak filter and 16 peak filters in 2 peak filters. 3 peak UV filters are made of the best glass in the world, SCHOTT B270 from Germany. The filters are made up of 16 layers of MRC. When using a telephoto lens, the SCHOTT will be slightly sharper than the Japan Optics Glass due to its slightly higher light transmittance. Warm regards.

The title (and model) indicate 67mm, but the item description indicates 68mm. Which is it?

The thread is 67mm in diameter. Thank you for catching this error in the description; it has now been updated:

Is this filter compatible with the Sony 24-megapixel digital camera? Is that a 105mm G lens we're talking about here?

The Gobe 77mm UV Filter will fit on your Sony FE 24-70mm camera. The lens is a 105mm f/4 G. Warm regards.

MRC scratches way too easily, even for serious amateurs
3/5

Except for the fact that the light transmission is good, I'm not sure how any reviewer can say these are top quality UV filters. Because I take such good care of my belongings, this could happen to anyone. br>br>1) Received the Gobe UV filter (43mm)br>2) Opened the box, removed the filter, and examined it (in excellent condition)br>3) Replaced the filter in its original box. br>4) Placed the box in my padded camera bagbr>5) Removed my Fuji 35mm lens and screwed on the Gobe filterbr>6) Took approximately 50 photos in my backyard with no contact of the filter with anything (except air)br>7) Replaced the lens cap over the filter and placed the camera back into my bag (REMEMBER THIS STEP)br>8) Removed the camera from my bag to shoot again, and the filter was scratched as shownbr This filter will never make it into the field because the lens cap is plastic, and I don't have long nails (I'm a guy). br>br>I only give one star to a lot of people. I believe star reviews are often the result of knee-jerk reactions. I'm not sure if it's because I'm a jerk or because I didn't read the manual (RTFM), but the coating on these filters is incredibly thin and scratch-resistant. tenacious If there was a negative number, it would be 0. I'd give it a 25 out of 10 rating if I could. br>br>I'm including this filter for free in an ebay auction for my 35mm Fuji lens as an example of what can happen to your lenses if you don't use a protective filter, but I think the real lesson is which MRC filters to avoid buying. Gobe gets my vote by a landslide because every UV filter I own can withstand far more abuse than a scratched surface caused by a plastic lens cap. However, it's possible that I received a faulty copy or that a squirrel approached my camera while I was shooting and scratched the filter without my knowledge. br>br>Perhaps Gobi should stick to planting trees in the countries where they are planted.

Visually, it's fantastic
3/5

Mechanically, it could be a problem. First and foremost, I have Gobe filters at each of the three quality levels: 1- , 2- , and 3- Peak. To my non-religious friends: On an optical basis, they are easily comparable to any other filter by a professional but critical and fairly experienced eye. The anti- Reflective finishes are fantastic. Having said that, I am unlikely to purchase from Gobe in the future. I use a variety of vintage camera lenses that have been adapted to a modern digital camera to capture my images. Many vintage lenses come with caps and accessories that fit *over* the lens's end, rather than flush with the lens's end. Some Minolta, Pentax, and Takumar lenses, as well as older lenses with metal friction-lock mechanisms, fall into this category. Caps from other companies will fit. The Gobe filters have a larger outer diameter than the lens barrel ends. When the Gobe filter is installed, you'll notice a small "step" in size between the barrel and the filter's outer surface. This isn't an issue with lenses with caps that don't slip over the lens's end. However, for caps that do fit over or around the lens end, the Gobe filters are just that much too big, resulting in OE caps and hoods that either won't fit at all or are extremely tight, making installation and removal difficult, and potentially damaging a plastic cap or hood. I contacted Gobe, and they are aware of the problem, but no fix appears to be in the works at this time. If they fit, I would definitely use them again.

After only a few months, the glass broke free from the ring
3/5

I've bought a few Gobe filters and am generally satisfied with their optical quality. In comparison to more expensive filter manufacturers, they appeared to be a good compromise in terms of cost and performance. I bought a 72mm filter to use with my Nikon 24-70mm lens. Given its "Three Peak" rating, I expected it to be of comparable or better quality than the 70 f4. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The glass separated from the brass ring after only about 6 months, and it now rattles. I found a B W for only a few dollars more when searching for a replacement. br>br>It's possible that this was a one-time occurrence for me. Despite the fact that it was a bit off, it was disappointing. In the future, I will think twice about purchasing Gobe products.

It arrived on time and in better condition than expected
5/5

My Gobe filter was delivered on time and in perfect condition. It comes in excellent packaging that is extremely protective - The filter is packaged in a flat metal screw-top can with a custom-fit foam insert that is sized to fit the filter perfectly. There are no visible flaws in the glass, which is spotless. With a large magnifying glass (my OCD gift), I examined the filter and found it to be uniformly clear and clean. This isn't my first Gobe filter, and they've all performed admirably; in fact, I've replaced some of my older filters, mostly Vivitars, with Gobes. These filters work well. Craig, I appreciate your efforts.

Another filter isn't enough
5/5

The glass is in perfect condition. On my lens, it's the perfect fit. For the first time in my life, the lens cap on the filter closes tightly. ) The visual presentation is stunning. The packaging is exquisite, and I frequently use the slim, screw-top case.

It's a great deal with excellent optical quality
5/5

I buy these for protection as well as light management in my photography. For years, I had spent upwards of $100 on protective filters that allowed the most amount of light to pass through while maintaining image quality. I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this 16 layer SCHOTT glass filter and filters costing twice as much. br>The coatings are fantastic. I have two kids who are interested in photography, and while they are learning, their fingers occasionally find the objective lens (or filter in this case), and their smudges wipe right off with a microfiber cloth. I have yet to need anything other than a blower and a cloth for touch-ups. ups. br>br>I'll add or amend any updates if I notice any, but this is my second GOBE filter, and the first is still as good as new after a year of regular outdoor use in the desert, and I expect this one to be just as good.
