It does exactly what it says on the tin. Diffusion around light sources is lovely and gentle. At the cost (or benefit) of lower contrast, the image has a pleasing halation in the highlights and a slight warm shift to it, with an even effect distribution across the image. br>The Fuji XT3 / Mitakon Speedmaster v2 35mm @f0 was used to capture these images. 95br>(borrowed my daughter's bunny while the rest of the family slept) No filter on the first image. The Tiffen BMP 1/4 is shown in the second image.
However, you must be aware of exactly what you are purchasing. Because of various YouTube videos, these filters have become extremely popular. I see what you're saying; it softens the image. They aren't, however, magical in any way. They make a lot of the footage look like it was shot in the 1980s. You're essentially lowering the image quality - which can be beneficial in certain situations - However, you should not use this all of the time, especially at this strength, as you will regret it in some cases, where it has a cheesy dream scene feel to it. There are also a variety of other filters, some of which are created by tiffen, that soften the image without giving it a soap opera feel.
This thing is incredible! We used it on a project where the subject was mostly backlit, and the highlights came out "bloomy. " I wouldn't recommend going higher than 1/4 strength unless it's for a specific effect, and Tiffen's build quality is excellent. It has a solid feel to it.

I ended up purchasing this filter from a local store. It's a fantastically useful tool. It doesn't make much of a difference in terms of color. It's actually a smidgeon warmer now. It softens the image beautifully and draws attention to the halation (light bloom). I adore the way it makes your skin look. All in all, a fantastic filter.
