Questions & Answers

Is it possible to connect a solar array to a charge controller in this way?

It is not a good choice for that because the clear plastic will become brittle over time. It appears that they made it to look nice rather than to last.

Which of these fuse holders should you use with 10 awg wire?

In a nutshell, a ten-wire system can handle 30 amps on average. I'm not going to go into the long answer with all of the variables that can affect this.

Is 4 gauge wire too small for this or will it work?

You must not be looking at the same item as me, because the one I see clearly states that it is not for 4 ga, but rather for "8/10 Gauge AWG."

What's the best way to change a fuse?

Pull out the fuse holder and replace it after unscrewing the caps on both sides.

I tested two units, and neither of them could handle more than 25A at 12V
3/5

We used these to send 12 volts from a Victron Solar MPPT unit to our batteries. We decided on a 40A fuse because the Solar Charger is rated at 35A. Unfortunately, the fuse end sockets appear to have too much resistance, and heat builds up until the fuse is de-energized. The solders and/or plastic caps begin to melt; the unit shown above lasted about 6 hours, while the one before it lasted about 4 months. Today, I switched to a Bussman Series 185 breaker in the hopes of improving the situation.

It was a perfect fit for my ten gauge kit! A cheap blade type fuse holder with a 40 amp fuse was included in the 10 gauge wire kit that came with my subwoofer
5/5

After six months of use, the fuse in my sound system melted, and my sub began to cut on and off during my commute. br>br>This barrel type fuse from InstallGear is a much-needed upgrade! I'm so confident in this product that I cut out the cheap fuse holder and replaced it with this one in seconds. It's got o-seal on it. The set screws securely hold both ends of the wire, and the rings where it contacts the wire are screwed shut to keep water/dust out. Because of the holes in the plastic base, it was simple to zip it up. tether close to the battery It's also a great price, and it's something that can be easily and cheaply replaced if it breaks. br>br>I'd buy it again, and I highly recommend it!.

Is a hard worker who knows what she's doing
3/5

It's just a fuse holder, and it does the job. I replaced the original fuse that came with it because it wasn't blown but was preventing voltage from passing through. It worked perfectly after being replaced with a new gold-plated one. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> A good connection is impossible due to the fuse holder. It works fine for about two weeks before being bumped out and the system ceases to function. I take it out and then put it back in. It works again after you replace the fuse. If at all possible, I'd like this to be replaced.

Exceptional quality
5/5

It's not bad for the price. The InstallGear 8/10 Guage AWG in-wall gauge was one of my favorites. AGU Fuse Holder with a Line It's made of high-quality plastic, according to my observations. Even some of the more expensive fuse holders, such as this one, are made of brittle plastic, but this one appears to be of good quality. Given that the plastic is exposed to heat in the location where I have mine, I believe this is critical. The screwdowns are also of good quality, and the plating appears to be adequate. The fuse is in the same boat. For the price, I believe it will become my new go-to item. Monster Cable does not appear to be producing car audio cables or accessories any longer, so it's a good time to start a new brand. I'll have to see what else they have to offer.

Fuse holder of exceptional quality
5/5

It works great as an inline fuse for a sound system or other large power wire, and it lasted a long time in my engine bay without causing any problems until I accidentally hit it with brake cleaner overspray. The plastic was shattered as it was eaten through. This was entirely my fault, and it was not a typical situation. Despite this, I purchased a new set because they work so well. Just stay away from anything that will eat paint or plastic.

Peace of mind at a low cost
4/5

It's a cinch to connect this to your main power supply. I use genuine 8 gauge wire, not the phony "8 gauge" wire that comes in wiring kits. Because the wiring kit wiring uses MAYBE 12 gauge wire inside a large insulator (the red plastic casing through which the wire runs), the fuses ends have a gap between the wire jacket and the end piece. That is why I gave it four stars. But it's simple to splice in and place, and it gives me peace of mind that if something goes wrong, I won't short out my battery. Which I don't believe will happen, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Fuses of poor quality
3/5

Three of these fuse holders (two 40A fuses and one 80A fuses) were ordered. The fuse holders themselves were fine, but both fuses I installed (one 80A and one 40A) were defective. br>br>One fuse had the metal end come off before I even put it in. The second bad fuse "appeared" to be in good working order, but when installed, it caused intermittent open circuits. It was a pain to troubleshoot and figure out what was wrong. I didn't end up installing the third fuse holder, but the cheap, low-quality fuse that came with it is something I wouldn't trust. I needed to order more fuses to replace the ones that had blown out. This is not acceptable.

This is a well-built fuse holder, especially for the price
5/5

To maintain good contact, the sockets that hold the fuse have spring tabs, and the wire side of the sockets has Allen key set screws and inserts to accommodate various wire sizes. The rings and wire seals on the covers appear to keep things mostly clean on the inside; my only concern is the plastic case's longevity in extreme temperatures under the hood. I'm very happy with the construction and performance after one month of use.
