It is true. I have both on my generator and they both work. It solves the ground error problem for my power protection device that I plug into my 30a power line running to my travel trailer when plugged into the 15a plug.
Any generator that uses up to 5000 watts will work with these plugs. The ground fault breaker will trip when it is used on a generator 5000 watts or higher. Since the ground and neutral wires are already connected on larger generators, they no longer need a separate ground and neutral.
Plugging my generator in before starting it is a good idea. When I stow the generator, I take it out so that it does not stick out as much. An E2 error (open ground) was displayed on my surge protector because of a Yamaha Predator 2000W, which I believe is a clone of the Yamaha Predator 2000W. Connected this to one outlet and the trailer to the other, and everything worked as it was supposed to.
