Protect your devices from surges with this 30 amp portable surge protector

Questions & Answers

What happens after the event if the protector is not reusable?

As stated on Hughes web site, if a spike module fails due to a large spike (according to their words) it can be replaced. In other words, the surge protection circuitry is designed to dampen 2400 joules of direct, high voltage events to ground on repeat. (I assume) that grounding the spike module could damage it if the surge is higher than 2400 Joules. While I don't believe that it will protect your camper if the spike exceeds the capacity, it may act like a fuse if it does (like my guess). Based on what I read on their site, I believe that to be the case.

What kind of protection does this offer from high and low voltages?

I do not think that the PWD30 shuts off automatically like the EMS does. PWD30 is a mobile device for the entry-level market You can buy a simple surge protector or a level Only protects from surges, analyzes circuits, guides you in monitoring park power, alerts you via Bluetooth when a problem seems imminent, and monitors you when in a dangerous situation. By the end of February Hughes will offer the only Bluetooth surge protector with the capability of shutting down your RV in low or high voltage situations.

Can you tell me how long the cord is?

The cord is about a foot on each end plus the plugs and the box

Exactly what does an autoformer do? How is yours different from one that does not use an automatic transformer if you omit "automatic transformer" ?

A step-up transformer that operates automatically. The path runs between your coach and the pedestal of the park. A power converter can be used to convert excess electrical current to volts. A drop in voltage leads to an increase in amps. It is simply a matter of converting from one side to the other to ensure you have sufficient current. Moreover, a surge protector is built in and can be replaced.

This is the only product like it on the market
5/5

Surge protectors are available in other brands, but what I use this ones for is that they can monitor your As far as I know, there is no other high-quality These are the types of amp devices that can be connected to the pedestal. I have not seen more than a voltage read out on any of the other products, even if I didn't care about being able to read it from inside the trailer. It had 30 amps and I used it for a year and had 100% satisfaction. My computer is a 50 amp version because we upgraded our power supply to 50 a. All appeared to be in working order, except for the 50amp version, which did not keep track of I read in another post that one other person had the same problem. David Z, an engineer at the company, was very nice to me when I contacted them. My original purchase was only the second out of the thousands of them to have this problem, he told me. In the first case, it didn't work for David, but in the second, it did. I gave him the details of the phone and operating system I was using, so we decided to test it. My customer service representative offered to ship me one of the Power Watchdogs in an immediate fashion if it was the device. It turns out, however, that it was all of my iOS devices that had the issue. Despite having an Android device, David got hold of a brand new Apple iPad and used it on one of his brand new Power Watchdogs and he also had the same issue! In the end, I bought I $20 Android just for taking readings, and I found that it read mine correctly. No need to return it. I have forwarded David's findings to the software team, and the team is making preparations to fix the issue. So I hope this will be a quick fix since I am still able to read 30 amp versions in iOS. Please note EDIT As all bugs in the iOS apps were fixed in less than a week after I reported them, I have updated my rating to five stars.

Neither provided protection nor was it necessary
3/5

When I disconnected the RV, I found that the ground lug on the load side of the surge suppressor was toasted (as well as the RV power cord). It would have been necessary for the ground connection to be loose, but even more importantly, there would have to be power on the ground leg, something that should have been In this case, it was evidently not successful. My next step is to reach out to Hughes to see what their response is. I will announce here as soon as I know.

RV systems were NOT protected from a power surge at an RV park due to this software! This surge protector was very high on my wish list since it has functionality to connect to my iPhone
3/5

A power outage occurred at night in the RV park where I was staying last week. My first discovery of the day was that our tea water heater was toast, and also that the main transfer switch on the RV was toast and required immediate replacement. There was no surge protection at all, just a display that showed everything was fine. Additionally, three other RVs did not have a surge protector and all of their transfer switches had been damaged. The only one with a surge protector was me, and this one just appears to be a box with led lights on top. A surge protector for RVs that actually works is what I'm looking for now. It was a very disappointing purchase.

Surge protectors like this are a necessity
5/5

When I finally decide on the power watch dog, I've done tons of research and found it to be one of the best surge protectors. The one thing that made me concern was that the title looked quite new and there didn't really seem to be any user reviews. So far, I have been using this camping stove on 3 trips since I purchased it in February. It saved us from disconnecting from a faulty shore power line on our first trip. One of the things that sets this surge protector apart from others is its app that connects to the watch dog. Whenever I'm in my camper I have the app on. This app makes it easy to set ranges, so when I reach my 30amp limit and I see what voltage is at the campground, I get notified right away. What I found truly remarkable, is the fact that I was able to watch the app as I turned on different appliances I now have a better understanding of how many amps were consumed. The amps in my camper can be viewed on the app, preventing any breaker trips or burning anything in the camper. Several days ago, while this summer heat was raging, my wife turned on the microwave while the AC was running, and the watch dog disconnected power because the amps soared to 40. We weren't expected to depend on the pedestal's breaker to trip. . . I was pleased to see the watchdog did its job instead of us. According to another reviewer, you do not need to have a location enabled on your phone to use the app. I only see the Bluetooth button on my phone when it's connected, and no location indicator appears on the top of the device. There are also large finger holes on the grips of the surge protector that can be used to feed a lock through in order to prevent.

I hope I won't find out it isn't working in the future
5/5

This is awesome. In my house, I've already found two circuits that were reversed. This is exactly what any $5 circuit tester from big box stores would be able to Even though I'm not wanting it to find a power surge, that's what I purchased it for and that's what it should be doing, so I guess I'll There's a cool feature that lets you see all kinds of neat info on your phone as it's Bluetoothing into your phone through an app from the Google Play Store. But you need to remember if you don't plug it in, you will not be able to use the app. Considering it is a Bluetooth device, we are talking about a distance of 30 feet at most. The question of whether it can be stolen was raised by others. Unless of course it was a kleptomaniac, you would be able to follow the theft immediately because your entire trailer powers down. I think thieves would be inclined to steal everything from your campsite rather than just this item unless they are the type to steal random items at random. There tend to be quite a lot of honorable campers, as well as in non-monitored rustic camps, too, no electricity is usually available, so it's moot. Do they have the capability to It is true. Yet I've never had anything stolen from a campsite, and I have been camping for more than There is a price tag attached to the protector, and I am not sure whether the technology does have any value. There may have been a way to save me money if I had bought this item earlier. I recently spent $138 on a power inverter. In any case, it might have just been time for the power inverter to die. In the end we will never know all of these things, but the money will just flow.

THIS IS NOT A WATERPROOF SHIELD
3/5

This is NOT a weather-resistant product. In a short rain storm, water soaked a panel and box. When plug was removed, water came out of it I was killed by a dam near my house!.
