It only responds to frequencies in the range of 50 Hz to 1 kHz According to the documentation on the box, it runs at 13KHz. As low as 20 Hz can be captured by this microphone, but it is an affordable microphone, so this microphone works well for a reasonable price. If you place the mic closer to the drum, you will be able to capture more low frequencies. It isn't really my cup of tea yet but I will buy it once I find the right price With an advertised frequency response range down to 30 Hz, it might be a better mic for bass drums.
I like My kick drum mic is not using this bass mic, but I am really enjoying using it for my bass. You can use it on your floor too, Tom. I had an issue with some highs coming through too strongly on my floor Tom at church, so I bought this originally to go on a kick drum, but it actually worked fine on the floor Tom, cutting out all the weird high guns and giving me a nice low thud instead. You did a great job!.
The Shure bass drum mic PG 52LC that I inherited with a kit makes this thing perfect for the price. I own a Shure PG 52LC I am not sure why that one sounds so much better than this one. In addition, it is half the price. I would rate both of them 5 stars, but neither sound incredible. When you plan on using this for recording, then you should opt for a high-end model. Whether you're recording live shows or in your home studio, this is superb. The only way to make it sound amazing is by using a digital mixer with effects. For my 16" floor tom, I use this to produce a low end sound, and I find that it works great.
Originally I was unsure how this would work out, but now I'm sure I'll love it. Rich, low ends with a very nice tone to them. The kick drum is often missing from demo recordings, and I was really surprised by how good it was for the price. I thought I might upgrade later to a Shure Beta 52a, but I doubt I will ever do so. Regardless of how it sounds, this mic is fine.
Due to weight concerns, I decided not to bring my studio AKG d112 with me. It's a hit with guys in the band, and so is it with me. A great mic for the money and I like the fact that it screws on to the end of the mic stand and there is no need for You did a great job!.
My current recording method is to pair this mic with a For the price it is good to get you going, and it is versatile for both bass guitars and kick drums, a real asset.
The microphone is great.
You get a smooth low end that isn't harsh or overly boomy at all.
