Questions & Answers
Thank you for your question, and I wish you a good day. Dynamic microphones are often said to have no maximum SPL. br>While this statement is technically incorrect, gain limitations do not exist in the everyday use of dynamic microphones. Some mechanical problems may occur at SPL levels above 160 dB (for example, the voice coil colliding with the magnet), but these SPL levels are extremely difficult to find in the real world. br>At Sennheiser, we use dynamic microphones to measure distortion on loudspeakers operating at extremely high sound pressure levels. We used a MD 421 to measure the SPL and THD inside a large 2" driver/horn combination at Sennheiser. The max SPL this combination could produce was 150 dB and the THD level recorded by a MD 20421 was below 1% (produced by the driver rather than by the mic)
Selected User Reviews For Sennheiser e902 Cardioid Dynamic Mic for Kick Drum
I've been playing drums for more than thirty years. Once or twice a week, sometimes more, I would perform live. On the kick, I've experimented with RE20, MD421, SM57, and D112. Over the years, I've mostly used Yamaha kits, and I've never been able to get the sound I wanted from the kick. The 421 came the closest, but it still needed a lot of tweaking to suit my needs. I prefer a tight bottom end with a healthy presence and click from the beater to help cut through the mix, and I was beginning to believe that this wasn't possible with just a single kick mic. To crispen up the sound, I usually used two microphones or a kick trigger with an electronic kick. I recently purchased a DW kit to replace my aging Yamahas, and around the same time, I purchased this mic for home studio recording. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this mic on the DW 22" gave me the exact sound I was looking for, with minimal additional EQ. This is an excellent microphone that I would strongly recommend.
My new favorite kick mic; it records well and performs well in live situations, requiring little in the way of effects or EQ. Adding an e901 inside kick drum should be a fantastic combination. br>br>.
The best mic I've ever used; I have the best sound with minimal eq and initial range kicks and drums, and it's absolutely fantastic!.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! TOM BOTH ON THE KICK AND THE FLOORbr>Do I need to say more?.
Excellent Kick Drum Microphone.
Love it.
This kick drum mic is the Grand Pooba. I haven't tried any of the other comparable microphones, such as the Shure 52A or the AKG D112. br>I bought this mic because the reviews for it were better than the other two mics mentioned previously. br>Indeed, it is well worth the money.
I've finally settled on a cajon sound that I like. I got a full sound with a rich low end that wasn't overpowering by 1" from the soundhole. hyped. Even without compression or eq, it sounds great.
- Because the mount was already loose with gentle handling, it received a one-star rating in terms of durability. I'm hesitant to tighten it because I won't be able to repair it if it breaks. I'm sure Sennheiser would stand behind their product, but I'd rather avoid the hassle of shipping. I make adjustments to the mic stand to compensate. br>br>With the exception of the mount, this is an excellent microphone that sounds fantastic for the price.
