Questions & Answers

Is phantom power possible with this mic? Will it damage my condenser mic if I use it with another condenser mic that requires phantom power from my focusrite?

Phantom power will not harm dynamic microphones in most cases. I used to have a Peavey mixer that was all or nothing with phantom power, and I don't recall it causing any problems with the 906 or 609s.

What makes this model different from the e609 model?

I only have an eq switch on my e906. It's a great feature to have. The price difference between e906 and e906 is $100. It has a great sound and is very easy to use if you can afford it. br>br>I'm not sure how the e609 compares in terms of sound, but I'm sure it's good.

Which switch position for a distorted guitar amp (metal/hard rock) is best/recommended? In the manual, there was little explanation of what it does. ?

There are three positions on the switch: With a mid frequency of 4, one increases the presence range. For aggressive metal rhythm guitars, use a 2kHz sample rate. Classic rock works well in the Normal position. The third position, which has a mid frequency of 4kHz, reduces the presence range for warm and smooth jazz and blues sounds.

When recording with this mic on a focusrite, it sounds great on the headset, but it's very quiet when recording in Adobe Audition. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I assume Focusrite is an interface; is there a main volume button on it? Play around with it. Second, I assume you're using an amplifier. Close to the speaker, almost touching the cloth or grid, the mic must be placed. br>I use mine with Presonus, Audacity, and the Tascam DP008, and I've never had that or any other problem with it. br>I've even recorded with regular house noises and the. Those noises are not recorded by the microphone. br>I hope this information has been useful to you.

It's a fantastic microphone that's incredibly simple to set up
5/5

Plugins and IRs are pretty good these days, but a good mic, if you know how to place it, is still tough to beat. Like the 609 Silver, this mic is incredibly simple to set up. which may differ slightly depending on your personal style and tone. That's about where the dust cap meets the cone for me, and parallel to the grill cloth as closely as I can get it. br>br>Getting a bad tone out of this mic is difficult. It's not harsh even on the dust cap, but it's bright and lacks the mids and bass that you'd expect. (Note: I also have a 609 Silver and find it to be quite harsh on the dust cap. ) The "sweet spot" is about a 2" square and gets warmer/more mids and lows as you move from the center to the edge. Easy! br>br>Bearing in mind that the true sound of a speaker is heard with your face/ear right in it, the best way to reproduce that tone is to do what I said above - use headphones. only a few inches away from the dustcap You can get a warmer tone by moving the mic closer to the speaker's outer edge if you're more of a "my combo is on the floor pointed at my feet and that's the tone I want" kind of guy. br>br>As I previously stated, placing this microphone is not difficult at all, regardless of your goals. Is the extra cost justified in comparison to the alternative? What about the 609 Silver? Yes, if you're more of a "what the speaker sounds like" type of guy who prefers to be "on the dustcap. " If you're more of a "combo on the floor, move it toward the edge to get that warm tone" kind of guy, then no.

Does exactly what I need it to
4/5

The sound quality didn't particularly impress me. I'm a complete noob and only purchased this to use with OBS to record my practice sessions. I've watched a few amp micing tutorials and experimented with a variety of positions and angles. Again, I'm new to this, but the amp sounds much better in person than I can capture it on tape. I don't think I'm going to get studio quality right now. The sound quality is perfect for my needs; I'm just not sure how I'd feel if it were on a record; also, because of the shape, you can only get so low to the ground before you have to rotate the "e," which irritates my OCD a little. This is a wonderful change of pace
5/5

I have a number of mics that can be used on guitar cabs (57 beta 57, SM7b, MD421, i5, Cascade Fathead II's, and so on). I don't really have a favorite, but these are a nice change of pace from my trusty SM 57 (which I still use frequently). These have a little more sparkle and definition than other mics like the 57, but they're not as scooped as a Sennheiser MD 421. The design is very low-profile. It's simple to use them. br>I haven't tried it yet, but they're supposed to work well for side micing a snare and toms (assuming you don't hit them).

I really like it! I've been using the industry standard SM57 for a long time, as have many others
5/5

For decades, I've used SM58 mics for my guitar amp, and they're considered industry standard for a reason, but I think the e906 just might be setting a new standard!br>br>It may be a little more expensive than the Shures (well, almost twice as much), but it's so easy to place (put it slightly off the cone) and man does it sound good! The sound coming from the out fronts is identical to the sound coming from my amplifier. br>I couldn't be more overjoyed! You're not going to be let down.

Even better than I had hoped! Please note the following disclaimer: Since my first recording in the mid-'90s, I've used SM57 and SM58 microphones
5/5

I bought this in the 1980s and I really like how durable it is and how good the sound quality is. They're excellent microphones with a solid reputation. br>br>Let's move on to the Sennheiser E906: Why not try a new mic for my tube amp for a new project that uses mostly new gear? I tried the E609 before and wasn't blown away, so I went back to the SM57. I purchased the Sennheiser E906 on Amazon on a whim a few weeks ago. I am honestly VERY IMPRESSED with the E906 after several days of recording with it. The "standard" middle-class middle-class middle-class middle-class middle-class Position EQ seems to be the best fit for my needs, and I'm so happy with the E906 that I don't think I'll be using anything else for a long time. br>br>Highly Recommended!.

I needed a good quality mic at a reasonable price, and the Sennheiser e906 met my requirements
5/5

I looked into a few others, and I've owned a number of classic cab mics over the years, so I figured this would be a good fit for my renewed interest in home recording. It picks up the highs, mids, and lows that my guitars scream out and is whisper quiet with most ambient/environmental noises. To get the sound you want, play around with the placement. I'm currently using it with a Line6 Spider IV 150w combo, and it really suckers up the sound with little to no clipping if I set the tone knobs on my guitar, mixing board, and DAW to my liking. I'll experiment with some of my older Fender and Marshall tube setups in the future, but for now, I'm content with the sounds that my solid state Spider is producing. br>Without a doubt, I would purchase this microphone again.

It'll be fine
3/5

Okay, so after spending a significant amount of time with this mic, I can confidently say that it is worth the money. If you're attempting to make a professional-sounding recording. This microphone should never be used! br>br>It will produce a better sound than some mics, but if you plan on using high-end guitar amplifiers, this mic will suffer from the same issues as others in this price range, namely, a slight static sound in your recording and poor quality. br> I'm not amplifying the guitar to the point of deafening myself, but I'm sitting directly in front of it, feet away from the mics, and it's always given me that bad sound in the background of the recording, just like the lower-end MXL mics. br>br>To get a halfway decent sound, I'm using this at the mid range setting split to a left and right channel, and an MXL 990 in stereo on a single channel to get further away from the amp room effect, both mics are cheap and you'll get an "ok" sound especially if you have someone very good at mixing and mastering your recording, there are way better mics out there but you'll have to spend about 700 dollars for one that will produce an.
