I'm not familiar with Canon cameras, so I can't speak to them. However, it does not damage my Sony A7III when it is turned on and off. It is, however, difficult to remove. To remove the bayonet fittings, I'll need a jeweler's screwdriver. With Canon camera bodies, it could be a different story. Overall, a good product, though the ergonomics of the extended eyepiece may or may not be to your liking. It is, in my opinion, a very personal decision.
No, Canon R5 is not compatible.

My 1DX's eyepiece had become loose (and had fallen off in a couple of gyms), so I began looking for a replacement. I shoot with my contacts on right now because I like to have my eye close enough to see the entire viewfinder. I'm trying to make the transition from wearing contacts to wearing glasses while shooting, and I thought I saw this style listed as suitable for those who wear glasses. However, you can't get your eye close enough to see the entire viewfinder because it's so long. This eyepiece is not suitable for people who wear glasses. br>It's of good enough quality that I'm not going to return it. It'll serve as a backup until I find something shorter that will allow me to shoot while wearing glasses without risking scratching them against the back of the camera body.
I have one of these eyepieces on my Canon 5D MkII, so I decided to get one for my Canon 5DS. I ordered the EG version to fit my camera, but the eyepiece will not go on for some reason. I must have tried 40 times, but the right-hand side (the same side as the camera's diopter wheel) simply will not go on. br>br>I've swapped eyepieces on different Canon dSLRs on a regular basis without issue, including the version of this eyepiece designed to fit my 5D MkII. I have two eyepieces that fit my 5DS, and they function as expected, being simple to put on and remove. I'm not sure why one of the eyepieces won't go on. It is clearly marked as the correct (EG) model in the box. I'm surprised and disappointed, so I'm off to find a compatible eyepiece from another manufacturer.
Edit: In less than two months, the extended eyepiece tore. br>br>Overall, I LOVE this extended eyepiece. It is comfortable, and it aids in the reduction of fog, which is particularly useful when attending weddings and wearing masks. I've only had two problems with it: the first time I installed it, I broke the little prong that holds the eyepiece in place (I'm including a photo to show you how it installs from the back), but I was able to return it. Second, after 8 years, I had to purchase a new one. Because it tore after 9 months of use, I had to stop using it. Even though I'm a wedding photographer who can do 1-on-1 sessions, please keep in mind that During peak wedding season, I perform three weddings per week. I devote a significant amount of time to my cameras. Overall, this is a product that I strongly recommend.
I'd misplaced my camera's included eyepiece. It wasn't even close to this one in size. I didn't like how my nose was squished up against the screen. I used it after I lost it because I was afraid I would damage my glasses if I didn't. I was given this one, and it allows me to keep my nasal passages from being too close to the camera, which I appreciate. These, rather than the standard ones, can provide a lot of relief. These are good and inexpensive, and they're a great product for all photographers who don't like to get too close to their subjects and who wear glasses.
There's a catch, though. My EOS 5DS-R camera is compatible with the Kiwifotos Long Soft Eyecup Eyepiece. However, I was unsure if it would work after my first attempt. Initially, I attempted to install the eyepiece by simply sliding it over the viewfinder's frame. It seemed to get stuck on the side near the diopter wheel, as others have reported. Then I noticed two pinchers on either side of the viewfinder window opening on the backside of the eyepiece. When I pushed these outward on both sides from the front side of the eyepiece, it fit perfectly and snugly over the viewfinder frame. When the eyepiece is installed, you can rest assured that it will not fall off the camera. I have one of these eyepieces on my EOS 90D as well, and I enjoy using them on both cameras.
While it lasts, this eyecup is fantastic. That is not the case. I'm not a pro by any stretch of the imagination - Basically, I'm a complete novice. I only use my camera on weekends, and it has had a relatively easy life; on my Canon 6d, this eyecup lasted only a few weeks before developing a tear on the left side; I treat all of my equipment with care and gentleness, so this is extremely irritating. Furthermore, I am unable to contact the manufacturer, "Kiwifotos," for any reason. I have a feeling the lack of contact information isn't by chance. Don't waste your money on a no-name product with no support; instead, spend a little more and go with a company that stands behind their products.
I used to have something similar for my two Fuji SLR camera bodies back in the film days. I preferred the stand-off of the back of the camera against my face because it provided me with eye relief. I finally ordered one for my Canon 80D after 15 years of using DSLR cameras. This is exactly what it says it is, and it fits the Canon eyepiece perfectly. The eye cup should be made of a soft material that won't scratch your eyes.
On my Canon t7i, it was a perfect fit. It's very soft and extends far enough away from the camera that my face doesn't come into contact with it, making it much more comfortable to use. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality, especially given the low price, and I plan to purchase another for my backup camera.
