Repair of an old speaker with this simple fix
5/5

Vintage Realistic speakers from the 1980's have been broken and stored for over 20 years. Today I received the replacement dampers I ordered. As a result of measuring the speaker diameter, I ordered the largest size of rubber damper. I cut the larger rubber damper and overlapped it. The speaker cone, rubber damper edges, and speaker frame should all be sealed with Weldwood contact cement. must use contact cement in a ventilated space (outside or garage). I used my 3M respirator mask for this. Contact cement should be let cure for 15 minutes (less than 1 hour) and then the coated surfaces should be carefully pressed together, speaker frames first (with overlap if needed) and then lift the cone over the double coated edges and press gently. We desperately needed to fix something that had been broken for years in an hour. If you don't want to delay ordering this speaker, order it now.

You can really do DIY repairs with these! 8 is the grade I used These are the speakers I am replacing for an old subwoofer that has been over 10 years old
5/5

It was a simple matter to glue them with regular wood glue since they lined up perfectly. glued the outside edge of the surround onto the cone, then I put the surround behind the cone where it naturally centers. As the glue dries, you can either glue the inside edge behind the cone, as mine was initially, or gently slide the surround onto the outside of the cone and glue. I am very pleased with the outcome. It's probably the most challenging part of the project to clean off the old surround.

A mistake has been made in the sizing
3/5

These were ordered for a pair of Optimus LX5 speakers with 5"woofers. There is, however, an issue with the 5 inch surrounds. They are too large and do not fit. There is a need to remove almost 1/2 inch of material to get these to conform to the 5" cone. The sizing is simply inaccurate and I have no idea how they worked out for others. Contacted the vendor for help, and he was able to assist. I was told I needed to take up the matter It's all right. You can also find your one star review here.

It is made from solid rubber Materials of the same type
5/5

I think these are superior to the cheap foam pieces on ebay and the like. They are more like rubber, and they look like they will last a long time. I'd recommend spending the 10$ instead. I used them on an old set of advent 10" speakers and they worked great.

A quality and fit that is pleasing to the eye
5/5

For replacing my BMW speakers that are 20 years old, these speakers worked perfectly. Be sure to follow the video instructions on YouTube or wherever you find them and avoid overusing.

This is an interesting piece
5/5

Foam rubberized with rubber is used to make these. These can be cut to fit speakers of smaller sizes and glued with ease. I haven't found any edge rings that appear to hold up as well as these. Although I think they are good quality, we'll have to wait and see how they perform.

Fortunately, I was able to save The Bose 301s I have are over 40 years old
5/5

There are no signs of wear on the speakers. It is fine to use the special glue, but I also tested 3M black weather strip cement (p/n 08008) on one set and it was satisfactory.

It took me a long time and cost me money because I could not find a diagram explaining where to measure
3/5

It is important to know where to begin and end your measurement so don't assume you know where to start and stop. I spent a lot of time and money without a diagram or help. I can't help you.
