Questions & Answers

Would this work with an SD card reader?

Yes. It's what I use with my RTL-enabled television. SDR and LNA4ALL are two words that come to mind when thinking about SDR.

Is there any mounting hardware included, such as U-bolts or screws? bolts?

The mast is not included, but it does come with the mounting hardware.

Is there any mounting hardware included, such as U-bolts or screws? bolts?

I don't believe so; I used 3/4" conduit and ran coax wire through it.

Is it necessary for me to install all of the small antennas if I only want to listen to 800mhz?

If you only need 800MHz, you only need to install the radials for 800MHz. br>I would recommend purchasing an 800MHz antenna, such as the BR6280 or BR6283.

For scanner use, this is an excellent antenna
5/5

The price is extremely low. This is not the first time I've purchased an antenna, and this one has the best price I've seen. br>This is an excellent working scanner antenna; mine is 30 feet off the ground and 15 feet above the shed in my backyard, and I receive signals from a police department 100 miles away, as well as airplanes 200 miles away tracked and located using flight radar.

RTL-II is a huge upgrade
5/5

SDR. First - I'm not a big fan of listening to the radio. I just want to listen to local radio traffic, and my scanner, which I've had for years, isn't up to the task of handling modern digital signals. br>I received a message.

It's inconvenient for people who live in rural areas
3/5

This antenna does exactly what it says on the package. "Unity gain" is how it's described, and that's all there is to it. Because I live in a rural area, I have to contend with distance and obstructions. You'll be happy with this antenna if you live in an urban area with a lot of radio traffic and strong signals. This antenna, however, does not work for me because of my location. I ended up purchasing a Slim Jim antenna with a gain of about 6 dbi, which works much better for reception and transmission at my location.

Update after installation: It appears to be well constructed
5/5

My old antenna finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago during a windstorm. Over the weekend, I installed a new antenna and am very pleased with the results. The reception on the 700, 800, and 900 MHz bands has vastly improved. UHF reception has also improved, though not to the same extent as the higher frequencies. The VHF and VHF-UHF radios are small, but they have a lot of power. Also, the loads that I've programmed in appear to be better. br>br>Unexpectedly, this scanner is less noticeable than the previous one. Which is irrelevant to me, but may please the neighbors. Definitely a "recommend," though if you have a lot of VHF Lo, the 1411 might be a better choice. br>br>This is a preliminary review; I'll update it once I've installed and tested the antenna. br>br>A few notes on building. The hardware is all measured in millimeters. The nuts are 7mm in diameter, and the set screws are 3mm in diameter. Allen wrench with a size of 0 in metric. It's not surprising, given that they're made in Taiwan. Before assembling the radials, I added lock washers to each of them. They add a little extra snugness, and I don't want to have to deal with loose radials again. There have been some suggestions for adding a vertical whip. br>br> It seems to me that purchasing the Tram 1411 for $14 would be more convenient. 00 extra. That is the route to take if you really need low band.

This tiny antenna has completely wowed me
5/5

Tram spins two discones at the same time. Which do you prefer: the 1411 with a whip and two longer radials or the 1410 with no whip and radials that are all the same size? I have both, as you can see from the photos. The 1410 was chosen over the 1411 because it does not have a whip, which would detune the antenna above it due to overlap. It picks up airport AM traffic, my local trunked transit system, 700mHz APCO trunked law enforcement, and UHF/VHF emergency response when I use it with a Uniden SDS100 scanner. On 2m and 70cm, I've used it as well. The antenna is a steal when compared to others of its kind, which only adds to its appeal. br>br>My 1411 is on the other side of the house and is used to transmit from a ham HT. What is the significance of being on the other side of the house? When I need to use my radios as a repeater or transmit on two close frequencies at the same time, I use the one with the whip for transmit and the one without for scanning. A whip on a discone offers much better SWR than one without, so I use the one with the whip for transmit and the one without for scanning. So that's all there is to it. Two excellent antennas, each with its own specific application. br>br>This antenna is mounted on the top of a 1"-diameter pole with set screws. With little weight or wind resistance, I decided to mount it to the side of my existing mast about a meter under my Diamond 2M antenna using a Winegard DS-100. Universal 22nd Edition, 2000 half of a 5' mast inserted into Winegard pipe and secured with a rubber plumbing reducer wrapped in gobs of Proxicast Pro- Grade 30mil Weatherproof Self-Adhesive Self-Adhesive Self-Adhesive Silicone Rubber Tape is used to fuse items together.

An excellent antenna with a wide bandwidth and a well-built all-stainless construction
5/5

Across the bands, the SWR on this thing is fairly flat. A graph of the VSWR can be seen in the snapshot below. It works great for military air communication and P25 vhf/700/800.

Thank you very much
5/5

With my mobile scanner, I wanted to use a separate antenna. Because my office is in the basement, the rubber Duckie antenna couldn't pick up any signals. I needed an antenna that could pick up all of the frequencies that my scanner could pick up. Just having this antenna outside my basement window is bringing in 4-fold the amount of power. Signal strength of 5 bars is sufficient to summon the local police and fire departments (P25 II). My plan is to mount it on the roof so that it can continuously pull in five bars.

This antenna has a lot of promise
5/5

I put this antenna together (loosely) in my house and connected it to my RTL SDR receivers, and I was blown away by how much more I could pick up than with the shipped ducky antenna. I mounted the antenna outside after tightening the radials and securing them with the included nuts. I can pick up from 2. 5 MHz performs admirably in the 900 MHz band. It has some issues with the lower HF band, but it wasn't designed for it, so I was surprised when I was able to use it at that frequency. One or two of the radials didn't quite screw in all the way, as some have pointed out, but they were secure enough. In comparison to others who screwed all the way in, I'm talking about about 1/4mm. This anteanna is unbeatable in terms of scanners for the price. I haven't tried broadcasting with it yet, but if used on the advertised frequency, it should work fine. I don't think there would be any issues in terms of transmission range.
