Questions & Answers

Is the WD640 hard drive supported by this?

Yes, it works with all types of hard disk drives.

Is there a way to see the contents of my external hard drive on my computer?

If my understanding of the question is correct. If you've just plugged in an external hard drive and want to see what's on it, go to "My Computer" or "Computer," depending on which operating system you have, and look for another Drive letter or Name in the "My Computer" window. If no new reference appears after double-clicking on that reference, try unplugging the external drive and then re-plugging it. If nothing happens when you plug it in, it's possible that the drive is bad and you won't be able to retrieve any data from it. I hope this helps a little.

What's the deal with "my computer" not seeing it?

It should appear as a drive letter if the drive is FAT formatted. You'll need some kind of third-party software to recognize it if it's not formatted as a FAT drive. For example, I had a Linus formatted drive that required the use of a third-party application to read.

Will this work to hood up an old ide cd/dvd burner to usb3? I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything. ?

The issue is not with the device; it will work as described in the manual; the issue is with your version of Windows failing to install the proper drivers for the CD/DVD burner. good luck

WARNING: THIS COMPANY IS NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR TIME! WIDOWS 10 DOES NOT WORK: The USB 3
3/5

0 Inateck is a device that connects to your computer via USB Windows 10 does not support the conversion of 0 to IDE/SATA. The hard drive is listed as working in "Device Manager," but it does not appear as a drive in "File Explore," and the AI OTB software that came with the device does not recognize its own hardware; the Inateck UA2001 software does not recognize its hardware. br>br>Moreover, their tech support is a farce. They have never offered a solution or software in response to this! br>WARNING – DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY! I have investigated this issue and discovered that the company has known about it for years and has never provided a solution. . . yet they continue to sell the same defective item. . . br>WARNING – DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY!.

It is not compatible with Windows 10
3/5

I have a large stack of old hard drives from which I wanted to transfer files before recycling them, and this adapter seemed like the ideal solution. I've been using Inateck adapters and enclosures for a long time and was excited to have a simple adapter that would work with any of my older drives. Unfortunately, it appears to be incompatible with Windows 10. I tried drives on each of the connectors and was unable to get any of them to work. Only SATA drives are recognized and appear in the file explorer, but the data transfer rate is ridiculously slow. I'm pretty sure I could write the contents of the drive in 1s and 0s faster than it could transfer data (no joke). The file explorer will crash if you use any other type of drive. So, if you're like me and hoping this will help you recover old data, take my advice and save $30.

DOA (Edited after a few days)

I didn't get around to setting up my computer and testing this adapter until this weekend because I was in the middle of buying a house and moving. Imagine my surprise when I discovered it refused to turn on at all. Either the power supply has failed or the adapter/converter has failed completely. I've tried a variety of HDDs and interface cables with no luck. I would try it if I had a different power supply that was compatible with the one that came with it, but I don't. br>My recommendation is to avoid this one and instead look for something more dependable. br>br>(EDIT) Because I couldn't figure out why this wouldn't work, I took it to work with me (I work in an electronics repair shop). Imagine my surprise when it turned on as soon as I plugged it in. I realized the only difference was that I wasn't using a surge suppressor, so I tried it again with one, but the unit wouldn't turn on. The Converter worked fine when plugged into an outlet but not when plugged into a surge suppressor, according to the results. I tried again at home, using every available outlet on my surge suppressor, but I still got "no power. " I then plugged it directly into a wall outlet, and it worked perfectly; I've tested it with both SATA and IDE hard drives, and everything appears to work as it should. I'm not sure why the power supply isn't working because of a surge suppressor, but I'm okay with it.

Immediately I've finally gotten around to looking through a couple of old hard drives! These items had been strewn about my office for at least a decade! I figured I'd figure something out'someday

' "What the heck?" I thought when I came across this product while doing some online research. br>br>Knowing myself, I was fairly thorough in my research. I looked at a few different brands and read some reviews before deciding on this product on Amazon. At $25. 99 was also a good price. br>br>The first thing I noticed when I received my order was that it was packaged very securely in a well-engineered box. The reader is well-made and sturdy, and it comes with everything you'll need to get started. br>br>I didn't even have to read the directions (though I did check for any 'warnings'). Connecting it to the first of two old hard drives took less than a minute. The hard drive began spinning and my laptop began loading the necessary drivers as soon as I pressed the ON button. I was able to walk through the contents of the hard drive in less than a minute, and I was ecstatic! br>br>The same thing happened with the second hard drive, which is where I really needed to get some old files! Success! br>br>Even if I never use this reader again, it has already paid for itself and provided me with access to some critical information and files! Yay-.

This thing has been extremely useful to me for the past three years
5/5

Like many others, I rely on real reviews from real people who have purchased and used a product. One of these has been in my possession for more than three years. This device has been extremely useful to me and was well worth the money I paid for it. br>Details: Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 are the operating systems that I use. There are two versions of the software: one for the home and another for the professional. I've used it to transfer files from and to two different locations. Laptop hard drives with a 5" SATA interface, 2. 5. 25-inch SSD drives, 3. 25-inch SSD drives, 2. 5-inch SSD drives IDE and SATA hard drives, both discs and SSDs, are available in a variety of sizes. I've used it to clone SSDs into my desk tops, as well as several of my Dell laptops and notebooks. It's never let me down in any of my endeavors. br>I have a stack of old hard drives that I take out of our computers and copy old files to. When I install new SSDs, I use it to set up new drives and perform drive cloning. We have over a dozen commuters in our home and office, so this thing has seen a lot of action over the last few years. It has always performed admirably on all occasions. br>I can't speak for Windows 10 because we haven't tried it yet, but I might try it on one of my Win 10 computers just to see if it works. (Because our main software programs don't like Windows 10, we've remained on Windows 7 and 8). For the time being, only one). br>I'd buy it again and recommend it to my friends without hesitation. br>And no, I didn't get this for free.
